My family really enjoyed our stay here. The house is about 200 years old (according to the sign on it), but additions have made it pretty comfortable. The layout includes a first floor with a large kitchen, family room, and nice living room, a bathroom with shower, a front (porch-type) room, and a bedroom plus half-bath off the back of the house. The second floor has two bedrooms with slanting ceilings (wouldn't recommend for very TALL people). For us this layout worked great. The kids loved the upstairs rooms, which were sparsely furnished (for me this was a plus!) and very simple. The mattresses upstairs seemed a little thin, but they were fine for kids. The downstairs bedroom was very comfortable; the half-bath is quite small but does its job. There were AC units in every bedroom, and the main part of the house stayed fairly comfortable even in hot weather.
There are many seating options in this house, and especially the back yard had plenty of seats with a large table. Again, this worked great for us with the kids. The kitchen was pretty well-stocked, including a lobster/crab pot and long-handled tongs, which we used to cook the crabs that we had caught. It was fun how the glasses were almost all from local running events! The only thing we ran short of was bowls (because, well, kids), so we bought some paper bowls for our stay. There is wi-fi in the house (didn't work for my ipad in the downstairs bedroom, but otherwise was great). I was a little nervous about this being a "pet-friendly" place because two of my kids have dog allergies, but neither had any reactions that I could tell, although there was definitely pet hair around (my crawling baby made this obvious). The house was overall clean and cute (loved the starfish decorations), but not SO perfect as to make me uncomfortable having kids there. The kids managed to find some construction type materials lying around the house (a wrench, some foot-long nails); having that stuff out of sight would have been helpful for us.
One of the best parts of this house is the location. It is a two minute walk to the great downtown shopping area (watch out, the first store you hit is ice cream and candy!!!) and very close to Surf Drive Beach, which is a fantastic beach for kids, with warm water and few waves and plenty of shallow water. It's also close to the Island Queen ferry to Martha's Vineyard. The price, the location, the arrangements make this a great place for families with young children.
