Peace by the waterfall.
This house is an architectural gem. Built on the slope if a ravine across from an impressive, always rushing waterfall, it affords a rare opportunity to enjoy serenity and isolation in a jaw-dropping home with the sound of water twenty-four hours a day.
Treehouse-like Living x10
So we saw pictures and read the reviews, but when we arrived, we were immediately awestruck. The paved, mossy path that led to the house was just the beginning of the all the uniqueness found in this place. The door is a really magnificent feature. The house is beautiful with all the wood, glass, and stonework on the fireplace. Even though the ceilings are sky high, there are no echos and the room is quiet. The views were breathtaking, particularly being able to look right out the windows or off the deck to the waterfalls! We were in wonderment of the shear effort to build a massive structure on the side of the hill and then make it look like it was a natural formation! The constant sound of the waterfalls was very soothing and relaxing. At night, they would glow in the dark!
My husband and I were never bored...we explored the area around the base of the falls and the ruins of the gristmill. We had an open fire by the "totem-pole" fire pit. And at night, if you walk the little path to the water's edge, you can see the house all lit up! It's beautiful! We also had our bikes and took a couple day trips just riding around the back roads. We visited Sumter National Forest and walked down the Stumphouse Tunnel, then headed over to see Issaqueena Falls. Both are a must see, however, there are so many beautiful falls in the area that we didn't get to see as a week isn't long enough!
As for the essentials, we were very comfortable and felt right at home. The house is fully stocked, towels and sheets are provided, firewood was stacked up for us, there is a charcoal grill (which we cooked on almost daily) with a full bin of charcoal, there was soap, shampoo, a hair dryer, space heaters, etc. There are some good books to read, and if you look closely, there is a book that features the house! There were a couple games, but we brought our own. It rained one day while we were there and that's what we did to pass the time - played board games and read. The weather the rest of the week was between 69 - 85 degrees! So we squeezed two rounds of golf in at the Oconee Country Club.
Best of all, I recommend cocktails on the deck in the evening to enjoy the cascading waterfalls. Worth every penny. Relax and enjoy!
The house and the views will leave you speechless. I would highly recommend this home and hope to visit again soon!
Best relaxing weekend
Our 3rd girls trip to the Glass House. We feel it’s our home away from home. Plan to return next year.
The view is wonderful. It’s amazing to see and hear the waterfall from every room in the house. The architecture is unique and modern.
The fireplace is spectacular. We slept well in comfortable beds and will return home well rested.
Located on a private stream in Oconee County, the most NW county in upstate SC.
