About Laura or Jim Bell

I am a retired mortgage banker and I have a home next door to the one I hope to rent to you. I am an avid fisherman, tennis player and golfer. I am usually next door to help with your needs. Hot Springs Village the largest gated community in America is 20 minutes away. It has 9 of the finest golf courses in the south.

Why Laura or Jim Bell chose Arkansas

This is by far the most serene part of Lake Hamilton. National forest is behind us and if you were to cross the lake you would be in national forest again, In the summer when the rest of the lake is 85 degrees at night you can sit on the porch or dock and need a long sleeve shirt because of the fog and the 49 degree water rolling past the dock, By the way that's when the fishing gets fun because I have the only rock shoal on the lake in front of my house. The fish know that too.

What makes this house unique

Located on the most secluded part of Lake Hamilton. Summertime water temperature is 50 degrees because the home is right below Blakely Dam. You can sit on dock or porch in August in a long sleeve shirt and watch the fog roll in. Put on waders and catch trout in front of house on the only rock shoal on Lake Hamilton.

Nice but could've been a better experience

  • 2 of 5

The house has great potential. Definitely needs updating. There were 2 cracks in the Sheetrock ceilings. Appliances are outdated in the kitchen. Half of the light switches did not turn on any lights that I could find. The beds were absolutely horrible. The bunk beds in the loft were so hard that my family could not sleep on them. My husband and I were miserable on the king size bed which I guess was supposed to be a waterbed. The lawn was not kept up very well. The pool was dirty, which may have been possible from a storm that blew in the day of our arrival. While I was trying to swim and relax by the pool, there was a lady at the next house on the same property by the pool spraying the house down and was using a leaf blower, which was very loud! There was no password given to us for the wifi. There was someone's personal lubricant found in the drawer of the bedside dresser that my mother was staying in! Yuck! There were still items left in the dryer. No washing detergent was present even though I was told there was. The outside view of the lake was beautiful. But all the boats available for personal use was disgusting and the flat bottom boat was covered with mildew. I wouldn't recommend for anyone to stay here. I feel I was overcharged. But as far as the vacation and hot springs, definitely loved and enjoyed!

Clean Inside, Beautiful Views Outside

  • 5 of 5

Pool is clean and refreshing & very private as it is between 2 buildings on the property. River water is remarkably clear. House was very clean (and I am critical about cleanliness) and orderly inside and well decorated. Owner showed us around when we arrived and was very informative. We didn't see him again while we were there. The fishing dock is nice & has a bench to sit on. The master bedroom had a perfectly comfortable bed for adults downstairs with its own full bathroom. The secondary downstairs bedroom has a queen bed and was acceptable. (also its own private, full bath) Porch has a porch swing and a wide wooden bench like you'd expect to see in a movie about a river house. BBQ pit available and fire pit to sit around on chilly nights. So bring your charcoal and lighter if you plan to cook out. Even in August the temp would drop in the evenings by as much as 15 degrees. Owner graciously allowed use of his flat bottom boat. Consider it a bonus as no other rental property offers this bonus amenity. Television signal was perfect. Location was excellently located near the dam & the state park. It was a short 20 minute drive to bathhouse row and there was a little convenience store just a few minutes down the road with a few staple items. Air conditioning worked great and was plenty cold for this warm time of the year (August). The upstairs loft has a bunk bed that looks like the mattresses are probably better suited for children. (we didn’t test the theory) The four of us never ran out of hot water. Tap water is good drinking water. Ice maker in freezer made more than enough for 4 people. Upstairs loft has a half bath. Washer and dryer and dishwasher in the house. Bring your own detergent.

Cell signal is 95% nonexistent, it is an issue of the area near the river. Internet was good on the first day but we were unable to access it after that. The river was cold as ice water & void of any signs of life the 4 days we were there. After talking to some local fishermen at the marina we understood this was not typical. We did see geese and ducks. There are spider webs all over the property; but if you don’t expect to see spiders in the woods, you are probably delusional. The deck around the pool is a little weathered.

Overall, we were very happy with the week we spent here, between the house, the pool and the generous bonus of using the owners boat we had a great and very relaxing week.

Perfect for a secluded getaway!

  • 3 of 5

House was perfect size for our group of 7 adults and 2 small children. Beautiful view of the lake and loved having use of a private pool since water is way too cold to swim in. If you are looking for a secluded getaway this would be a great choice! Jim was a perfect host and went above and beyond to help us in any way he could.

A couple of drawbacks- One was the outside appearance of the house. Cobwebs everywhere , an old bench leaning against the fence, roofing material stacked in the front yard, weeds and fallen limbs, etc. An easy fix with a little TLC but definitely bothered me that it looked run down on the outside. But happy to say the inside of the house was beautiful! Since the owner doesn't live here it would be a good idea to hire someone to do the outside maintenance on the place. The only other issue was the upstairs bunkbeds-they are impossible to sleep on.! This was mentioned in a previous review and it is still an issue. I went and bought air mattresses to put on both beds to solve that problem.

Overall, my family thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay again if the above issues could be resolved.
