An updated older very charming remodeled home with front and back porches in the heart of a fabulous village, close to Omega, Bard and Vassar colleges, the C.I.A. culinary center, hipster Kingston and hipper Hudson. Walk into town to an independent bookstore, movie theater--$6 plus $1.50 for popcorn, fabulous restaurants owned by some CIA grads, health food store, candy stores, Beekman Arms Hotel and Aaron Burr bar, super farmers' market, bike into the country, try Pilates or yoga, head to Bard for the Frank Gehry auditorium, down to the CIA for food and cooking lessons, to Vassar College and its gem of a museum, Franklin Delano Roosevelt's revamped Presidential library and home, Vanderbilt and Mills mansions, public tennis, pool, and a gem of a library. Four bedrooms that altogether can sleep six or seven, 2 1/2 remodeled bathrooms, updated kitchen with all new equipment including Bosch range, convection microwave, Dishwasher and Fisher/Paykal refrigerator. Rent for a weekend, week, month or more! But know that this house is lived in and not a full-time austere looking business or hotel. As the sharing economy has evolved, some prefer a home that's only for renters. That's not the case with mine. I leave out my books and magazines to share including cookbooks. But this also means there are some framed photos and a piano that's tuned to play! That also means cabinets are stocked with food I use and SHARE--oatmeal, jams, honey and spices, pots and pans. The refrigerator is always cleaned and there is space on shelves and in the freezer of YOU! But if you want some of my Peppermint ice cream, indulge!!. Beds are always ready with freshly laundered sheets, have of freshly laundered towels available, always offer new shampoos and soaps, and also provide breakfast bagels, new orange juice, milk and Nespresso capsules and a milk frother, so you are comfortable when arriving. There is always a gift of a bottle of wine for you! A gas station across the street offers all the news you want to read in newspapers! Come, relax, enjoy and STAY. I love this village and home and want you to do so, too!

About Property Manager/Owner
Love to cook, paint, entertain, and work--still must do it but isn't that great! Love to garden too and have a perennial garden all around and planters that once had vegetables and now mostly perennials and herbs and a few tomatoes since the squirrels are too aggressive and i hate sharing!
Property Manager/Owner purchased this House in 2010
Why Property Manager/Owner chose Rhinebeck Village Business District
Because it's light, bright, roomy, air conditioned, new bathrooms, updated kitchen, right in the heart of the village, steps away to shopping, library, bookstore, Pilates, yoga, art classes and lots of great restaurants! Has four comfortable bedrooms, two full bathrooms, one half, great big living room, dining room, family room, and modernized kitchen and outdoor spaces at front and back for sitting, vegetable garden, and close to Bard College, Vassar College, Omega, 1+ hour to the Berkshires and not far from the Catskills and skiing. Use my pots and pans and spices and cook here, watch TV, use my Wi-Fi, and relax. Close to my gym and Pilates classes, too. Have two bicycles to use. Rent for a weekend, week, month or two! But know that this is my house I love and live in and not a spare business; so there is my stuff; neatly organized and you'll feel at home with my cookbooks etc.
What makes this House unique
The village is a gem, maybe the best place I've lived with culture, food, kind people and so much near by, including the Berkshires 1+ hours away. And even in the deadly winter, it's still a joy to put on a coat, hat, gloves and boots and stroll out to see how pretty the town looks.

Charming Home in the Heart of Rhinebeck
We visit Rhinebeck for the Sinterklaas festival every year (8 years now) - and decided to try Barbara’s home given the great location, which made the weekend much easier for us and our kids to enjoy all the festivities. We enjoyed Barbara’s house - and would recommend the property as long as you are comfortable staying at someone’s actual home as this is not a typical VRBO-dedicated rental. Because this is Barbara’s home, she is very careful, which is totally understandable...Anyway, we will likely book again for next year!
Thank you for coming and loving my home. I appreciate your carefulness greatly and next time we can throw caution to the wind! Just joking, but I look forward to having you again and getting you some extra treats and a discount for your return visit. I hope you return; you will see new carpeting in one bedroom, new decking out back and some additional changes. Thank you again. Happy New Year and all the best! Barbara
Nice albeit a bit overly precious
Barbara kindly accepted my husband and baby daughter and me to stay even though apparently she normally doesn't accept children. We were coming up last minute to do some volunteer work and attend an event. The house is extremely well located, walkable to town. It's an antique Victorian, decorated a bit like a dollhouse (in fact, there's a big dollhouse in one of the rooms). Plenty of space and Barbara thoughtfully provided cider and bagels, which were great for a snack, and some other cereals and cookies which were nice but we didn't eat. The fridge was stocked with kitchen basics and there's a good coffee machine. Our only issue was that Barbara and her boyfriend were quite nervous -- maybe it's because we were bringing a baby, who we of course watched carefully and never caused a problem. Barbara's boyfriend insisted on walking us through the house rules extensively in person when we arrived, which I've never experienced in years of renting people's homes, and also had wanted to come to the house to check it before we left, although we ended up having to leave early. All of this communicated a sense of mistrust out of the gate. Then Barbara was quite nervous when I hadn't received a message for the house's second payment and called me on my cell before I'd even received the HomeAway payment request. It felt excessive-- there's a certain amount of trust that needs to be extended when you rent your home, and it felt like Barbara and her boyfriend were on some level uncomfortable with having people in the home, which was especially stressful considering the incredibly steep nightly rate. Not the easiest rental experience we've ever had -- and we were EXTRA careful making sure the home was in great condition when we left -- but all in all it's a nice home in a fantastic location.
As stated in the description and shown in the photos, this is a home that is lived in, greatly loved and used. This is not a hotel where all rooms have few furnishings, are the same or staged. All 20 other reviews are 5-stars. Guests seem to have appreciated the kindness of being warmly greeted, asked when departure would be good for them and thanked at the end; shown around for their comfort to know where there are such things as more fresh towels, toilet paper and Nespresso capsules; or how to operate the AC, Nest thermometer and not lock themselves out. Such gestures reflect the original intent of the sharing economy when it started, which was for people to be able to stay together in a home as well as follow sharing-site rules such as paying refundable deposits and other fees in advance of arrival for the homeowner's protection and following simple house rules requested.
Enjoyed the house and being able to walk to restaurants and shopping. The hosts were very nice and accommodating. I would only suggest more comfortable seating in the living room and clearing things off of the counter tops. It's too cluttered still a great time!
Thank you for coming ..will clear counters more before next but not many counters in the kitchen and I like to help renters be able to cook by having out measuring cups, Nespresso maker and milk frother and capsules galore, Breville oven, KitchenAid mixer and oils and vinegars. Re seating it is very very comfy in family room and a bit less formal than in living room, so not sure why you didn’t sit there more. Thanks for coming and offering your input. Happy holidays
Lovely home in a perfect Rhinebeck location.
Barbara and Bruce went out of their way to make sure we were well taken care of. The place is lovely, the beds comfortable, and the showers hot! We were very pleased with the house and Rhinebeck is a lovely little Village.
Thank you for coming to my home. And thank you for putting up with my alarm system and painting need. Come back any time!
Very Clean, great location!
The house is charming and we were made to feel very welcome. We loved being able to walk 2 blocks to town for dinner and drive 2 minutes to the Fairgrounds!
And you were absolutely terrific guests.....Come back and recommend me please as a host with the most.
Charming house steps away from town
Loved the stay. A spacious home with multiple bedrooms and seperate family room and living room. The host had bagels and a bottle of Prosecco to greet us and that was a nice touch. Town is so close you will be easily walking to shops and restaurants.
Great guests who communicated with me about arrival and departure. They were tidy, appreciative and kind. Come back any time!
Located in the great town of Rhinebeck, near train stations, FDR's home, the CIA, Omega, near Hunter Mountain for skiing, 1+ hour to the Berkshires and its museums and great plays, shops, and more; a great location with great activities in town including an independent bookstore, super movie theater, shops, restaurants, Pilates, yoga, library, outdoor public tennis and swimming pool, good bike riding, golf courses not far, and almost anything you can imagine! I have one good bicycle and helmet you can borrow and a bike shop in town will let you rent.
Additional information about rental rates
Rates are based on 4 guests; add $75.00 per night, per additional guest. YOU MUST ENTER THE CORRECT NUMBER OF GUESTS WHEN BOOKING. No pets allowed under any condition; children depend on the ages; usually two nights during spring, season, fall and holidays but I can remain flexible but for only one night there will be a surcharge of between $50 and $100 depending on the weekend and season. I will lower the rate come winter, except for Xmas and New Year's...
