Very nice apartment, for a good value vacation in Costa Rica
We enjoyed a 10 day stay in Tucanes #8 in Jan/Feb 2017. It has everything you need for a visit to Playas del Coco, and it is a short walk from the town.
The apartment is a good size. The beds are comfortable, with ceiling fans in the rooms, and air-con in the apartment. The second bedroom doesn't have it's own air-con, so the door needs to be left open to stay cool.
The kitchen is small but has everything you need, with some supplies available when you get there. The local supermarkets are easy to use and you can buy almost everything you'll need. The town has many places to eat, at a variety of prices, but everything seems quite expensive in Costa Rica. Self catering helps to control these costs, so we didn't mind paying extra for occasional meals out. There are several flights of stairs up to the apartment (75 steps?) so it will keep you active... and another few flights of steps up to the shared pool area. This is clean and quiet most of the time. We often had it all to ourselves.
The apartment has a good balcony where it is lovely to eat breakfast while listening to the howler monkeys and watching the birds. It can get a bit breezy at times, so don't leave towels, etc, hanging there to dry.
The apartment manager (Kattia) was very helpful with the two small issues we had - the air-con drain was blocked and she got it fixed immediately, and the door lock didn't work properly, so she had that looked after as well.
i suggested to the owner (Jen) that the apartment could use a few more mirrors, as there is only one in the main bathroom. Also, bedside lamps would be good to have, as the rooms only have the main lights. These are minor points and didn't spoil our stay in any way.
The "second bathroom" is really only a laundry room with and extra toilet and sink - no shower.
We had a great vacation here, and felt it was excellent value for money. We will certainly consider staying here again in the future.
Tree top Retreat
This condo is perched slightly above tree tops on the top level which is located in the center of Playa del Coco. It was decorated beautifully and is very comfortable. The view is breathtaking from sunrise to sunset.
Customs went quickly at Liberia Airport; the rental car company picked us up with a waiting bus. Driving directions to the condo were easy to follow and took about 25 minutes.
Picking up the car was quick but if you do not know how to drive a standard transmission make sure you tell them. The car rental was economical ($12/day); I opted for full insurance coverage which was $36/day. For less than $50/day we had a car to drive in a foreign country; do not be surprised by the insurance; do some homework before arriving. Our rental experience was good, efficient and timely.
Tucanes #8 has everything you need, all you have to do is stop by the local grocery for food and drink. Furnished condo supplies used, you can replace later. There are three grocery stores very close to each other in town. We liked Super Compro; it is where most of the locals shop and definitely the best value.
We ate breakfast and dinner in town; our favorite breakfast was at Soda Jardin Tropical which is close to the beach and opens at 7am. For dinner, everyplace had great local food.
The condo is on the top floor, be prepared to walk up the 4 flights of stairs. It was well worth the exercise to be able to enjoy the spectacular views!
We loved spending early mornings and evening on the condo balcony and the hot afternoon at the condo pool which is located one more level up. In the morning we watched the sunrise over the mountains with a cup of coffee, listening to the birds waking up and watching them perch with the squirrels in the trees right next to the balcony. As the day ended we enjoyed the sunset over the mountains with a rum cocktail. The view was incredible, no obstructions, mountains on the left, the Bay overlooking the Pacific in front and mountains to the right. Very relaxing!
When departing Costa Rica, after checking your bags, you will need to pay an exit fee. I believe the fee was $29 each, cash only! Have cash on you it will save you from needing to go to the exchange line!
We highly recommend this condo rental!
This condo is perfect. It is clean, has an updated decor, plenty of good quality linens and towels and the kitchen is very well equipped. We found the cable TV to have lots of English channels and the WIFI was fast and reliable. The large wrap around deck has shade most of the day has a lounge and table that seats 4 where you can enjoy your meals and admire the view. The pool is large and very clean with plenty of seating and shade and of course the views are beautiful. Any problems were addressed in a fairly timely manner and the rental agent is very helpful. It is 3 blocks to the beach and 5 blocks to the main street. We highly recommend this property and would stay here again. The only words of caution I can give is be prepared for the equivalent of 6 flights of stairs in order to enjoy this piece of paradise.
Great condo in Coco Joya!!
My family and I (kids ages 8 and 6 years old) stayed at Jen's condo in the month of December 2015. We really enjoyed our stay and the place was great! The condo was clean, roomy and just what our family was looking for to enjoy our stay in Costa Rica. It is close enough to town and the beach if you want to walk, or just a very short drive. Coco has everything you need, stores, shopping, restaurants, beach, and centrally located to many other beaches in the area. After our long 12 hour flight to Costa Rica, it was very nice to simply drive 30 minutes from the airport and arrive at this great condo with a spectacular view! Breakfast was had on the patio overlooking Coco and the beautiful ocean while the many different birds would fly by and perch in the trees. In the late afternoon we would walk up to the pool and enjoy the great view while we swam and listen to the howler monkeys. Jen was a fantastic host! She provided much needed information when ever we needed it considering this was our first time to Costa Rica and we were not sure what to expect. We enjoyed our stay at Jen's condo so much that while we were there we booked 3 more days on our way back from the interior of Costa Rica.
Jen was extremely wonderful to work with and her place was fantastic!! We wish to return to Costa Rica next year and would defiantly book her condo again. We highly recommend this condo! Thanks Jen!
Thanks for the review! It's actually Tucanes condos, not Coco Joya (they're our neighbors) :D haha! I'm glad I was able to make your trip a little easier. I try to give as much info as possible as I know how it can be daunting once you get on vacation to plan everything! Hope you come back to our little part of paradise! Until then Pura Vida and stay safe :)
Our 2 week vacation in Costa Rica was magical; the sun, the beaches, the Pura Vida, but also… this condo! One of those place you can call a piece of paradise.
The location is perfect. The view on the bay is breathtaking. The condo is close enough to the center (restaurants, bars, groceries) to reach by walking, but also far enough so that you can enjoy a quiet and peaceful environment. The condo is only a few minutes of walk away from the beach. Playa del Coco is a great place to stay when you visit Costa Rica because there are many beautiful attractions and exciting activities to do within a 2 hour drive.
The space is more than enough for 2. This condo could be really comfortable for 2 couples or a family. But when it comes to a country where life is outside, the interior space should be the least of your worries. Our favorite place was the terrace!
The amenities allowed us to cook almost all our meals at the condo (hello savings!) and the Wifi gave us some entertainment during the rainy evenings. What a delight it was to have a dishwasher and a washing machine. For us, it meant more time to enjoy doing nothing. Even if we are beach lovers, we really liked the shared swimming pool.
The owners are easily reachable and will quickly answer to your question before and even during your stay
We quickly felt very much at home at the Tucanes. We will come back for sure!
Thanks Jen & Mike
Excellent Ocean View
This was our 4th trip to Costa Rica and this condo was perfect for us. The view from the patio is spectacular. The inside of the condo is perfect for a couple or a couple with 1 or 2 younger children. The master bedroom is spacious with a queen bed, safe and an A/C unit. The second bedroom has a bunk bed and a ceiling fan, but no A/C unit in this room. Living room has a flat screen TV with satellite cable & A/C unit. Kitchen is spacious with all the amenities of home. The shared pool is just above the unit and has equally spectacular views of the ocean and surrounding hills. We recommend grocery shopping at the Luperon, it has better prices and plenty of choices. The Auto Mercado, across the street, is more like the supermarkets in the U.S. & Canada but we didn't feel the need to pay more for A/C and modularized shelves. The town of Playas de Coco is a wonderful place with great souvenir shops and some good restaurants & bars. We also really like a couple of restaurants/bars in Playa Hermosa, Roberto's and Aqua Sport. Both have great menus and outstanding views of the ocean/sunset. Make sure you try the Chili Guaro at Aqua Sport. We rented a car while we were in country and found it easy to navigate the roads. Just make sure you are mindful of people walking & biking on the side of the road at night. Went down to Sugar Beach Restaurant one evening and both the view and food were outstanding. The owner, Jen, is great to work with and very responsive to questions. Kattia is the property manager representative that greets you at the condo and gets you set up. She is also your contact throughout your visit, and she does a great job ensuring a pleasant stay. Overall we have nothing but great things to say about our stay, Thanks Jen!
We are so glad you had a nice stay! We want all our guests to have a wonderful experience and tried to upgrade the condo accordingly! Pura Vida!
Whatever it is you are looking to get from your trip to Costa Rica, you'll be sure to find it! Everything you need is minutes away! Many tour centers are located downtown to plan your adventures!
