Why Deborah Krzyzaniak chose Willoughby Spit
This property was built during the early 20th century. This house was used as an officer's quarters during World War II. General McArthur actually stayed in this house at one time. Aside from it's history it is only steps from the Willoughby Beach. The view from the back porch is spectacular, especially the sunrises! You will be amazed at how close you are to the water. It will be an experience you will not forget!
What makes this House unique
Prime location in Hampton Roads Virginia. The house is located on Willoughby Spit next to a fabulous fishing pier and restaurant. Downtown Norfolk is 15 minutes, Virginia Beach front is 30 minutes, Hampton is 15 minutes, Newport News, 30 minutes, and Colonial Williamsburg is 45 minutes away. If you want to take a day trip to Charlottesville and visit Thomas Jefferson's home, it is worth it! It is 2 and 1/2 hours each way.

great house for family get together
The house is lovely and the wrap around porches were a real treat on unexpectedly warm days in December. The kitchen was well stocked and cooking for a crowd was easy. The one thing I wished for when there was clean windows! Not being able to see the views clearly was annoying and not a small criticism. Nonetheless, I hope to return again with full family in tow.
Dear Billie: I am glad that you and your family enjoyed your stay. Thanks for the feedback and I apologize if there was salt spray on the windows. Please let me know if you decide to return and I will make sure the windows are clean. Thanks again, Deborah K
A Thanksgiving to remember!
Our family spent Thanksgiving week in this lovely home on the shore of Chesapeake Bay, and we were not disappointed. While we knew it wouldn't be beach weather, we were hoping to enjoy walks along the shore and allow the grandchildren to expend energy running on the beach. The views from the porches were stunning and we saw dolphins more than once cavorting right off shore.
I was nervous about pulling off a dinner for 15 in a kitchen I was unfamiliar with, but I found the kitchen to be well stocked and I had everything we needed. The dining room easily seated our children, their spouses and our grandchildren, one of whom had arrived only a few days before!!
Have to add something about the heating. The house is definitely an older home. One can tell with all the detail on the porches and indoor trim. Despite that everything, worked perfectly. The heating kept us all cozy despite the cooler temperatures. People shouldn't hesitate renting this home during the off season. The area was quiet and the house provides plenty of parking.
The bedrooms were a good size and two bathrooms located between the four second floor bedrooms were ideal! What a great thought that was!!
I cannot close this review without mentioning our host. We have traveled quite a bit, and have dealt with many owners, Deborah could not have been more responsive and pleasant. She was more than welcoming and really wanted us to have a perfect holidy in her home. Can't thank her enough for that!!
Bottom line..this is a great rental!!
We spent a long weekend at this wonderful home celebrating our 35th Ladies Weekend Out.
It is in a great location. The restaurant at the Pier and Thirsty Camel are within walking distance.
There was enough more than enough room for the ten of us. The kitchen was well equipped. The deck is fabulous.
I would highly recommend this home!
Super location and great beach access
Our second stay here was every bit as terrific as the first. Our tennis team (6 couples) needed a place midway between Norfolk and Newport News... Couldn't have found a better place for group meals, beach access, and just relaxing. Thanks to our hostess for her always great communication! We hope to return next year!
Beautiful house with character
The house had everything we needed. The view from the second floor porch was amazing.
Perfect house for our family!
Several members of our family traveled to Virginia for my son-in-law's retirement from the Navy. This house fit our needs perfectly. We love to cook and relax and be together and we were able to do all of those things. The house is big enough so that you are not tripping over each other. On Saturday there was a group in the living room watching college football, some on the beach and a few taking naps! Speaking of the beach, this house is in a gorgeous spot. There were very few people even though it was Labor Day weekend and the sunrises were worth getting up for! We also had a thunderstorm one night and everyone was out on the porch enjoying nature's show. Debbie was great to work with. She responded within minutes for the few questions we had and even contacted me when we hadn't checked in by 4 pm. Everyone agreed we should make this an annual trip to the beachhouse at Willoughby Spit.
