Why Deborah Krzyzaniak chose Norfolk

This property was built during the early 20th century. This house was used as an officer's quarters during World War II. General McArthur actually stayed in this house at one time.

Aside from it's history it is only steps from the Willoughby Beach. The view from the back porch is spectacular, especially the sunrises! You will be amazed at how close you are to the water. It will be an experience you will not forget!

What makes this house unique

Prime location in Hampton Roads Virginia. The house is located on Willoughby Spit next to a fabulous fishing pier and restaurant. Downtown Norfolk is 15 minutes, Virginia Beach front is 30 minutes, Hampton is 15 minutes, Newport News, 30 minutes, and Colonial Williamsburg is 45 minutes away. If you want to take a day trip to Charlottesville and visit Thomas Jefferson's home, it is worth it! It is 2 and 1/2 hours each way.

Perfect weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

Booked the Blue House for a Labor Day Weekend family reunion for 10 adults & 4 kids. The house is spacious and beautiful! It was perfect for us especially since there was a Tropical Storm going on during 2 of our 3 day stay! The kitchen is well equipped and we stayed in all Friday night and Saturday eating and playing board games watching the storm from the wrap around deck. The house is a great location on the beach, when the storm finally passed we were able to enjoy the beach steps away from the back porch. Have already started planning our return for next year. The decor is warm and welcoming and we loved the classic beach theme! Spacious bedrooms with lots of character!

Nice Historic Beach House but Some Rental Issues

  • 2 of 5

Lovely old house which is beautifully and comfortably decorated. Kitchen, dining room, living room are spacious and accommodate a group. House was clean and beds were comfortable. Wonderful porch wraps around the first floor, great for relaxing in the ocean breeze. Even with the nearby fishing pier and public beach access, we had very little traffic on the beach in front of the house and no neighborhood noise. I would not consider this a beach community and think the house is a little overpriced. This was our first weekly rental, but I expected a few more amenities for a house meant for a large group. There was only 1 roll of toilet paper in the bathroom and a single trash bag in the kitchen, there was sufficient hand soap and dishwasher detergent. The property also needs repairs - ice machine doesn't work, some of the doors don't latch closed, the driveway gate doesn’t close, the thermostats are very old. We never found a thermostat on the top floor, but that room stayed sufficiently cool as long as the second floor was kept very cool. Our big disappointment was that the second floor balcony is not for use. The posting does specifically list the first floor deck for use, but we did not make the jump to the assumption that the second floor could not be used. The balcony goes around the whole house and is definitely an eye-catcher in the picture. My biggest complaint is the inconsistencies between the posting, the rental agreement, and the binder in the house about check-in/check-out times and fees. We just checked out at the earliest time listed between the 3 documents to avoid incurring a fee, but these documents should all be the same. We tried to do an early check in, but the manager and the owner do not seem to have the best communication which was very frustrating as we were trying to plan our travel with a baby and could not get a time confirmed until less than 24 hours before check in as the owner decided to stay until Sunday at the property which the manager did not seem to know in advance. We also received a rental document packet upon reserving which contained a pet agreement clearly stating the pet fee was refundable and now after a month of emailing we still have no resolution on that. It doesn’t not appear they intend on honoring their own rental documents. The house comfortably served our needs, but we'll rent someplace else next time.

Beautiful and spacious home. My BAMA family enjoyed the 10ft porches and sounds of the soothing waves at night. If you pass on this you pass on HEAVEN!

Beautiful Week at the Beach

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at this beautiful home on the water in late August. The house had plenty of beds and bathrooms for our large group and we were impressed by how well stocked the kitchen was. The house is PERFECT for entertaining. There is a large indoor dining room, or you can eat outside on the deck viewing the water. The views every morning and evening truly were beautiful. I would also recommend going our time of year because the beaches were nearly empty! It was very convenient to be able to just walk to the Fishing Pier for food or make a less than 5 min drive the grocery store as everything was so close! There were a couple of minor flaws, the upstairs shower never worked and the second floor porch with beautiful views was off limits, but on the whole we had a fantastic experience!
