About the property

1BR + sitting room sleep 2, hot tub, near beaches and parks, dramatic sunsets.

The cottage is freshly built and is nestled away in the back of a property located in one of the Point Reyes village rural neighborhoods. Taking the raised pathway to the house, it feels like you have entered your own secret garden and are far away, yet you are less than a mile from downtown Point Reyes village and shops. Without getting back into your car, you can walk down the easy back trail right into town.

Immaculate kitchen with huge granite island that spans the great room for easy cooking, conversation, and Netflix movies. Blender, oven, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and French coffee press, wine and other glasses, all dishes, pots & pans. Fridge and sink provide filtered water. Fridge icemaker and water easily accessed on front panel. Secluded, new outdoor spa for quiet, nighttime star gazing. Two beds: a luxury pillow top queen in one bedroom and a day bed in the sitting room.

Large covered front porch for morning coffee or spectacular sunset views over Inverness Ridge - rain or shine. House is surrounded by grass and gardens with views all around. It sits near a former seasonal pond that is long gone, but still the ducks and birds fly around the yard as if they remember. The sunny location allows for enjoyment of the outdoors year-round. Taking a private hot tub under the black and starry night sky or watching the winter storms roll in are experiences that will ease your mind and enliven your senses. Having the comforts of WIFI and phone will keep you connected while finding yourself in the beauty of a small village.

The house is completely independent from the other dwelling on the property and is set apart with zen-like privacy screens. Guests have their own parking space. Smoking and pets are not allowed. House is located just 3.5 miles from the Point Reyes National Seashore visitor center where you can get information regarding the beaches, bay, lagoon, estero, forests, meadows, wild life, birds, creeks, rivers, trails. Lighthouse just 30 minute drive. Close to fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, hiking, wine tasting, photographing. Experience the wilderness beauty - rolling green hills and ocean cliffs with sunshine sparkling on the water and dramatic sunsets.

About Nancy Kain

Owners have lived in and loved the Point Reyes National Seashore area for 38 years, and continue to marvel at the extraordinary beauty, wildlife, ocean, bay and forest. We have lived on the property in the other dwelling for 25 years. We enjoy the interesting rural, agricultural, fishing and artistic community and people who make up the area of West Marin. We commute to our jobs each day. We completed construction of the new house in January, 2015. We think we live in Paradise, so we want to share this feeling with others.

Nancy Kain purchased this house in 1991

Why Nancy Kain chose Point Reyes Station

We purchased this property because of the lifestyle required to live in a wilderness area, and being 40 miles from metropolitan San Francisco. Not exactly 'off the grid', but similar - stacking wood and making fires for heat; gardening and growing our own food and eggs; playing and working outdoors; home made cooking vs fast food; sharing life's joys and burdens with close friends and neighbors; loving the libraries and live theatre, music, and dance. We love outdoor adventure and wilderness and wanted to raise our children in the sheer spiritual dimensions of this wilderness area and the hard work and creativity required to live here. And then there's the Point Reyes National Seashore: ocean, bay, lagoon, estero, forests, meadows, beaches, wild life, birds, creeks, rivers, trails. We moved here because we spent every weekend here when we lived in Oakland and SF. The rolling green hills with cows grazing fall gently into the creeks and radically become cliffs over the ocean. Either place the sunshine sparkles on the water before it dramatically sets. The gentle breezes relax our whole being along with the exquisite beauty. Prior to living here, we travelled here to visit the pristine beaches, the famous Point Reyes Lighthouse, hike and bike through Bear Valley and to explore Tomales Bay. The new house we built is pristinely clean and new, with all new furniture and appliances, a beautiful and comfortable spot to spend your weekend or week. You have total privacy with your own sparkling new hot tub. It's a lovely place with lovely surrounds, and close to all outdoor adventures and secret getaways.

What makes this house unique

We fell in love with this property because it was close to downtown Point Reyes, but absolutely quiet and peaceful and near the National Seashore. It was a half acre of grass and wild blackberries, and still is in many ways. The seasonal pond is long gone, but still the ducks and birds fly around the yard as if they remember, many generations later! We love the full sun AND wind protection, allowing us to enjoy the outdoors year-round, and the stunning views of the Inverness Ridge and Tomales Bay at the end of our road. The "back path" is our private short cut to downtown, walking next to Tomasini Creek. The front porch views of gardens, trees, and the ridge, along with taking a hot tub under the black and starry night sky or watching the winter storms roll in are experiences that will ease your mind and enliven your senses. Having the comforts of WIFI will keep you connected while finding yourself in the beauty of a small village.

Bright, peaceful cottage within walking distance to Point Reyes Station

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed our 3 nights at this lovely cottage that Nancy has made so welcoming. It has an open kitchen with large island eating area, comfortable living room, and 2 BRs with a bath between. The cottage is suffused with light even on cloudy days and is modern and comfortable. Nancy even provides a landline because there is no cell reception in the cottage. We enjoyed relaxing in our very own hot tub just off the porch after our hikes, and walking to town through the shortcut which is about a half mile, thus avoiding hwy 1. The location is convenient to the town, hwy 1 and of course, to all the trails of Point Reyes. It is very quiet and peaceful tucked away behind the main house. We will definitely be back.

Lovely and well-kept, new cottage with hot tub!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a really wonderful weekend at the Spa Cottage celebrating his 40th birthday. It is walking distance to town and very quiet and secluded. The owners are lovely. I would suggest one more panel of fencing to make the hot tub area really feel truly private, otherwise it was all perfect.

Lovely Cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was perfect for our stay in Pt. Reyes. The interior was well designed and comfortable. The outside area was well maintained and used subtle structures to give the cottage a private feel. The walk to downtown Pt. Reyes is easy and fairly protected. I will definitely return here on our next trip.

Cute cottage in a great location

  • 4 of 5

I want to give this cottage 4.75 stars. It's location was excellent, close enough to town to be convenient but just far enough away to be away from all the traffic and people. The layout inside is great, the kitchen well stocked, the bed comfortable. Lots of windows for light. Nancy the owner was very pleasant and welcoming. My two small complaints, we were there for two days and their were only four bath towels, between the hot tub and showers they were constantly damp and the dryer in the kitchen were not for guest use. It would have been nice to have been able to dry them off. Also, not quite as private as I would have hoped, although there are partial fences between the hot tub and the main house the main house sits well above the cottage and the open lit windows were clearly visible from the hot tub, so were the neighboring yards. Also, the day of our departure I wanted to go out for a quick dip when I woke up but there was gardening going on all around the cottage. However, I would highly recommend this cottage, it's cute, very well maintained, well stocked and in a great location. There are even many books about the area and where to go and instructions in the guest book on how to get to great hikes and bike rides. It's just as cute in person as it is in the pictures. I'd definitely go back again.

Nancy was very responsive and accommodating to our changing travel plans. The cottage was above expectations and we'll be back as soon as we are in the area again. Very sad to leave!
