We will be posting prices and taking reservations on the day after Labor Day.

We do have a number of guests that love to return at the same time each year. We allow them to experience their summer vacation before asking them if they would like to return the following year. I have heard that they are very appreciative of this system.

Charming, nestled away, this must see post and beam home is situated on the edge of Keith Farm, which provides sweeping pastoral views and occasional visits by the beautiful horses who neighbor the property. Enjoy both the isolated beauty of this secluded one acre property and the convenience of this amazing central location.

This Post and Beam home is beautiful yet not fussy, furnished with both elegance and comfort in mind, with well thought out amenities, including but not limited to: fully equipped kitchen with a large rustic farm table that seats eight; Deck appointed with teak furnishings and a large gas grill provides wonderful views of the beautiful Vineyard sunsets; large outdoor shower; Open concept living room with cathedral ceiling, equipped with an easy to use sound system; Loft area has a new flat screen T. V., great for hanging out and can also be used as an extra space to house guests; 4 Bedrooms furnished with plush mattresses and bedding (3 bedrooms are in the main house, the 4th is in the detached cottage); Detached cottage provides an additional bedroom and 300 sq ft of guest space.

Thanks to a great recommendation from one of our thoughtful guests who stayed with us in July 2016, the cottage will soon have a screen door on the front of the building as well as a small AC for those few and far between very hot days.

2 minute drive or 10 minute walk to the famed Lucy Vincent Beach; 2 minute drive or 10 minute walk to the Center of Chilmark, the library and the Chilmark Community Center, where you can access a bus during the summer season multiple times a day, to any town on the island; Chilmark is the home to the picturesque working village of Menemsha, which is famous for fresh catch seafood and spectacular sunsets; If you enjoy walking trails, Chilmark has the most of any town on the island; A 10 minute drive out of town will bring you to the famed red clay cliffs with beach below to the town of Aquinnah, formerly known as Gayhead.o

About Megan Whitehouse

We live year round in New Hampshire and have been vacationing on the island for many years with our family and friends. We made a decision to buy our own home in 2011 and began looking in earnest at that time. We saw a number of possibilities but never one that we both fell in love with right away.

In the spring of 2014 our realtor contacted us and said, "how many times have I said that you must come and check out this property RIGHT AWAY?" I paused and thought about his question briefly , and then responded- "Never". Being a Friday afternoon, we packed a bag and headed to the vineyard . We got to the property a little before our appointment on Saturday and sat on deck enjoying the view and both knew that this is what we had been waiting to see! By the time of our scheduled meeting, we realized we had found our new home.

Location is amazing. Chilmark is rural, and our home clearly feels that way. But to be within a ten minute walk to a fabulous beach, and the community center, which has awesome entertainment, films, speakers, tennis, yoga classes etc...... Additionally if we don't feel like getting in a car-we don't because we live right on a bus route which circles the entire island.

What makes this house unique

The views looking over pastureland of the farm abutting our land are protected in conservation easement, which assured us that it will always retain that look. The occasional visits to the split rail fence from the horses who board there, is just another charming bonus.

The right place for our family to stay together

My husband and I just celebrated 20 yrs together. We married on Gay Head and wanted to share the island with our kids and grandchildren. This home gave us room to stay AND spread out. We wanted something comfortable and laid back and it's exactly what we got. We are already trying to set up a return time. We love the Vineyard and like staying away from the busy areas. We could drive into each town easily from this property. Megan was great to do business with.

Truly a Dream Vacation Home

We stayed for few days at this lovely vacation home for Spring School Vacation. Let's say that this home has the perfect decor which matches with the great views and location. It's on the west side of MV, around 20 minutes from Oak Bluffs. It's accessible and it has everything you need to enjoy a quiet and peaceful time. For those who enjoy nature, this is the perfect place to stay. Quiet, out of the city traffic and close to many wonderful beaches. Chilmark is perhaps the best place for those who love peace, and nature beauty. The house is as its described. Pictures are 100% accurate. Interior design is lovely. The owner (Megan) is accessible at all times, she is excellent as a host (keep in mind, this is not a rental house. This is her vacation home!) she will try to exceed in regards your needs. Anything you need to know about MV, just ask her. The house offers 3 bedrooms. First two with queen beds on the first floor, then a third on the second floor with two twin beds. The setup is perfect for a family with teens. Our teens had the 2 floor for themselves (additional living room on second). The master has access to a master bath with tub and separate shower. The kitchen/main area has an additional bathroom connected to the laundry room. The kitchen is 100% fully equipped. You just need to bring the groceries, which we fully recommend.

In the mornings two horses from the neighbor farm will come close to say hi. Do not feed them as requested by the owner. But you can say hello to them as they are gentle and used to interact with humans (always approach horses in a gentle-quiet way)

Overall, this is a great home to stay. We would recommend it for a family or party of 6-8. Perhaps 10 if you use inflatable mattresses. We hope to stay another time (summer like) at this home. Spring in New England is a little on the cool side so you may not be able to enjoy the outside as in summer days.

Perfect location, Thoughtful owner & Great set up

My family and I rented the house for a month in August. We had an amazing time. The house is in close proximity to everything you need in Chilmark- the community center, the store & LV Beach. We have 3 children ranging from 2-6 so the library and playground being up the street was ideal as was the store (best pizza.) Megan was more than attentive. She was always prompt with her responses and extremely helpful. We truly enjoyed our stay.

A Wonderful, Relaxing Vacation

We recently rented this house for a two week vacation. We have been coming up island for many years staying at an inn. This year we decided to rent a house and stay longer. We couldn't have chosen a better place. The location is perfect - a half mile in one direction to beautiful Lucy Vincent Beach, a quarter to half mile in the other to the Community Center, library and Chilmark General Store. The house is completely private and overlooks the Turtle Brook Farm pasture with horses who come visit every day. It was a beautiful bucolic setting and we relaxed immediately.

Megan was absolutely wonderful to work with. She responded immediately to all of our questions and was very helpful. Upon arrival, the grill did not work properly. Megan had someone come right out to fix it. The house was very well stocked with everything from kitchenware to beach chairs to boogie boards. She even had a basket of bath items in case we forgot anything.

The decor is very nice. Megan decorated it beautifully! We appreciated all of the interesting art pieces and furnishings. There were two large screen TVs and WIFI, books, games, etc. The house has lots of space to spread out so people can have some distance and privacy.

And the outdoor shower was magnificent!

The only disappointment is that we were not able to use the guest house as a fourth bedroom. We were there during very warm weather and the guest house was very hot and stuffy and not comfortable to sleep in. We did discuss this with Megan and she has some ideas on how to address the issue.

We will definitely be back!

A world away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life

Our week at this property was absolutely delightful! We have vacationed on the Vineyard for many years and always rent in Chilmark as Lucy Vincent Beach is magical. By far, Megan was the most responsive and helpful homeowner that we have worked with. The house is well equipped for cooking and relaxing, with several different spaces that easily accommodated our family of 6 adults. And, the WiFi signal was very strong, which was important to us. Each day, our mornings began with visits from the very friendly horses next door; they do enjoy their carrots! We look forward to a future visit.
