About Marty & Kerry Mullane

Spent years vacationing in northern Michigan as a child. We vacationed in this home last summer with our lab, Marley. When it went up for sale we partnered with a long time friend who lives in the area and snapped it up. This is a charming home on Park Ave surrounded by Earl Young 'mushroom' homes. We plan to keep this home for many to enjoy.

Marty & Kerry Mullane purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Marty & Kerry Mullane chose Northwest

Located in the City of Charlevoix this charming 1930 cottage is located on the corner of Sherman and Park Avenue. Enjoy the views of Lake Michigan. Stroll 1 block to the library(a wonderful place offering concerts ), or the life guarded beach with playground. Take the dog for a walk through the pet friendly park directly across the street .In the evening enjoy movies and concerts in East Park on Round Lake just a a few minutes walk away.

What makes this cottage unique

We spend a great deal of time on the enclosed front porch. Perfect place to read a book, catch up with old friends while sharing a morning coffee or evening glass of wine! The large deck at the back of the house has a a grill and picnic table. You'll love all the hardwood trim and floors. Bring the pup!

Lake feel without the lake price

  • 5 of 5

5 of us late 20's early 30's stayed in the house. Very well accommodated, the location was nice, a short walk to down town made it awesome for a evening walk to get some ice cream. A couple hundred feet away is Lake Michigan with an easy path to navigate. The place was a, its hard to say a bit dated because thats not true, could use a few upgrades. But that's what gives it the feel of a upnorth cottage. Beds were comfy and plenty of blankets and linens. Overall we all enjoyed the place and would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Great place in a great location. Directly across from a very nice section of beach. Walking distance to town but relatively quiet street. Owners are extremely responsive.

Great Location. Comfortable.

  • 4 of 5

The Mullane's cottage is in a wonderful location and has many charming aspects to it. It has a great comfortable feel. The huge dining table was great for when we had a big dinner. The front screened in sun porch is darling. The big living room couch is a perfect spot to relax at the end of the day while watching a movie or playing a game. They provided so many linens and towels which is a nice benefit on vacation. There was one wish I have: - the twin beds were pretty hard. They could use a mattress topper. Other than that, this cottage was with the cost!

Location, Location, Location

  • 4 of 5

We are long time Northern Michigan vacation folks. We have stayed in Mackinac, Harbor Springs, Traverse, to name a few. Charlevoix is our favorite and we have stayed here renting houses for several years. You just can't beat the location of this house. Walk across the street, down some stairs and you are at the beach. If you want modern houses with all the bells and whistles, Charlevoix is not for you. The houses are older and take some getting use to. No AC is the norm. You won't need it. The beds are nice, firm, and the bedding is great. The upstairs has four bedrooms and one full bath. The downstairs has a full bath and the back room could be used as another bedroom. We had one adult and three kids, each has their own room. We bring our own bikes and spend little or no time at the house we rent other than food and sleep. The upstairs bathroom is an old style cast iron bathtub, if you have someone older staying, the downstairs bathroom would be best. The downstairs shower is small, but it works. Water pressure is good. New fridge with a great ice maker, important on vacations. Garbage disposal, we rented a place without one last year and that's a pain. The DVD player had an odd habit of coming on with subtitles not matter what we did each time we put in a move. Great movie selection, nice library. We moved the coffee table into the living room, we eat in front of the TV (I know, that's terrible), but there is a huge table if you are into family dinners. The front porch is excellent for people watching. Sort of a funny thing, the people walking on the sidewalk not ten feet from you (when you are sitting on the porch) for some reason don't know you are there. They walk by just chatting along, it's entertaining. If you are an outdoor loving beach going type of family, this is the place for you. One thing, if you have someone that's older (I have an 85 year old mother that sometimes comes on vacations with us), I'm not certain how the steps to the beach would work. They are long, steep, and don't have a riser (that back of the steps is open), and I'm certain she would not have used the steps. We would have used another access to the beach for her. It's worth mentioning. Oh yea, the kitchen has everything you could want, we cook breakfast and dinner, mostly eat out for lunch. And it's an awesome place if you have a dog, we don't go on vacations without our lab, she had a blast.
