Exhausted!!

  • 3 of 5

If you're looking to catch up on sleep during your vacation, don't stay here. The beds are horrendous. We spent every single night of the week we were there switching from one bed to another trying to find comfort. Sleeping on the tile floor was actually a thought I considered at one point.

Beyond that, one of the toilets broke (the basin came loose from the seal) during our stay. The maintenance guy, Daniel, tried to suggest it was our fault. Because of the broken toilet, a raw sewage smell kept infiltrating the house. The air conditioning unit in one room was defective, so it also was blowing acrid smelling air into the house. They tried to resolve the problem with air fresheners, the scent of which was so cloying that even our 5 year old wouldn't stay in the house. The air conditioner in the master of the main house was also broken -- it was either swelteringly hot or on bone-chilling cold and could not be adjusted.

The property was nice with plenty of space to lounge outside and kids to play. The pool was great. Location was central in Akumal.

Daniel made us two meals which were tasty. We asked two days in advance for breakfast one morning but he totally forgot about it and we didn't bother to request any meals again.

Owner's Response: Hi MacKenzie! Thank you very much for your review. We take all reviews very seriously, and we deeply regret that you did not let us know about any issues during your stay. We could have assisted you immediately and addressed all concerns. I spoke with the property manager, and he confirmed that the owners of the villa have ordered brand new mattresses for all of the beds. The owners are arriving at the villa this week and are personally looking into your feedback. The property manager told me that they resealed the toilet while you were there, and it has since been completely replaced with a brand new one. The manager told me that the AC in the master bedroom was repaired during your stay, and was thoroughly serviced after your departure to ensure that it has no issues. The same was done on the AC unit in the Casita bedroom. With the cook services breakfast preparation, it looks like there was a misunderstanding. Guests provide the groceries, and the cook will prepare, serve, and clean up meals for our guests. The cook will even do the grocery shopping for the meal upon request for small delivery charge. On this occasion there were no groceries available for the cook to prepare the breakfast with, and as he was not asked to go to the store, he assumed that you no longer wanted the breakfast preparation. We have asked him to be more proactive with communications to resolve this going forward. Again, we are really sad to read that your stay was not exactly as you would have expected, and we are especially saddened that we were not permitted the opportunity to resolve these issues during your stay. Our locally based team is available 7 days per week to answer your calls and emails. We want to thank you very much for staying with us, MacKenzie. I am delighted that your family enjoyed the property, the pool, and the location so much! It really is a great spot! Thank you again for your valuable feedback. The management has worked to properly resolve each of the issues described in your review. We hope that you will consider giving Casa Iguana another chance in the future. The Akumal Direct team.

Home with great outdoor space and beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at Casa Iguana! The villa consists of 2 separate houses and a GREAT outdoor space, including outdoor dining area, pool and covered sitting area with hammocks and beautiful ocean views. Our group included 6 adults and 6 kids, aged 2-9. It was perfect for our group as there were enough beds to sleep 12 and plenty of room outside for the kids to play within the villa. The pool was awesome and the property is right on the ocean with beautiful views. The service was excellent, as the house was cleaned daily and we even had dinners cooked for us! I would highly recommend Casa Iguana!

Perfect vacation home

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed at Casa Iguana May 20th - May 27th, and we never wanted to leave. Danny, the grounds keeper and chef, met as when we arrived. It was heavenly. The main house and the casita were perfect. The rooms are large with lots of storage. Great bathrooms. The kitchen's (yes, there are 2) are very well supplied. It was perfect. Danny had pico and guacamole with chips ready for us when we arrived. Just what we needed. The landscaping is beautiful. There is a beautiful fountain by the large dining table. There are many different outside lighting options that really show off the place at night. Beyond the houses towards the beach is the private pool. It was always clean and inviting. We brought a pool volleyball net, so we could play water volley ball. So much fun. Beyond the pool towards the beach is the wonderful sand volley ball court. Great exercise and fun. Beyond this is the awesome palapa. It is a raised area with 2 hammocks and chairs that looks directly onto the beach. Amazing view morning, noon, and night. I wanted to mention Alicia. She is the house keeper, and she is a wonderful person. She kept the houses clean and always sweeping up after us. She was very helpful and kind. Danny did a wonderful job with the grounds and the pool. He answered all of our many questions, and he was very knowledgeable. The best meals we had while we were in Akumal Danny prepared. We asked him if he could get us fresh lobster and shrimp. He had to travel a ways to manage this request, but the next evening he prepared fresh lobster and shrimp for our family. He served us at the beautiful outside table. It was absolutely wonderful. Another night he prepared us verde enchiladas and red enchiladas. Amazing... To top it off he baked a wonderful flan for dessert. 5 stars to Danny and Alicia. Thank you guys for all you did for us. I wish we could have stayed forever. O ... I forgot to mention the iguanas. Love them too. Bre'Aun, Jon, Camden, Jenn, Shonta, and Kevin. Dallas, Texas

Cooley family

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed the villa and it's staff / exactly what the vrbo site said it was. Daniele the chef was very good, pleasant and accommodating.

I would recommend to have 2 bicycles available for use to run up tp the store or a golf cart. The barking dogs next store was a bit excessive and would recommend more sand in the volleyball court.

Thank you for a very nice vacation for my family (rated 4.5)
