Great jumping off point for weekend NOLA getaway
I really enjoyed staying at Matt's place in Mid-City for Jazz Fest 2018. It is centrally located (no surprise being in Mid-City), a short walk from Winn Dixie, the Mid-City beer garden, and other local attractions, and a short Uber ride from the French Quarter. I never felt unsafe (though I would caution that it's generally ill-advised to be out walking the streets of NOLA, or really any major city, late at night). The lodging was clean and comfortable and was perfect for a weekend getaway with the boys for Jazz Fest. Loved the high ceilings -- always makes a place feel a bit more spacious -- and the patio. Matt was very responsive and easy to work with. We had a blast and we're definitely looking forward to returning!
Great stay, great owner!
Had a business trip last minute that happened to fall on weekend of French Quarter Fest so I stayed through the weekend. Accommodations were clean and just what I needed for the stay. Matt was very accommodating and provided well. Having off street parking definitely a plus! Will book again. Thanks Matt!
We are using our photos of this place to amuse and horrify our friends (Ew, gross!)
Our host indicated that his family has several rentals properties in the city. He should have had mom or dad check this place out before renting it.
Access: We were aware that we were renting a 2nd floor apartment but not that the only way to get up there would be a steep iron staircase on the outside of the building. Very scary, especially when wet.
Cleanliness: I slept in the room where the red comforter was the only blanket. I used the dog blanket from the car, to avoid contact with the deposits (bodily fluids?) on the comforter. The rug under the coffee table was stuck to the floor. The place looked basic but OK at first glance... but badly in need of a good scrub. The dog sniffed the couch all over and refused too sit on it.
Linens: The nearly transparent sheets looked like they were old when Grandma put them in the Goodwill bag. We were given four small bath towels: 1 fairly new, 2 nasty old stained ones, 1 orange and hard to say. Red comforter, repulsive. Other bed, dusty but no major deposits.
Decor: Frat boy meets family keepsakes. The "closet" in my room was one of those frame and muslin things resembling a laundry hamper. It was in the middle of the room, unclean, and falling apart.
Environment: The neighborhood was alright. However, we would not have chosen to stay next to a great muddy construction site whose workers arrived early in the morning. The cute little porch was very difficult to access. We were not able open the only entry point.
Conclusion: I believe we could have done much better for our money. There is no excuse for the dirty bedding, etc. For far less than the large sum we contributed to the cause, the apartment could be made far cleaner, more inviting and comfortable. Above all, renters should absolutely be warned about the steep, outdoor climb to the apartment.
I have hired a decorator, and a new cleaning crew. I purchased new bedding and towels. The location of the staircase is unable to be changed because this is a typical Mid-City duplex style. Also the construction is finally being done on a building that was destroyed in Katrina. I do not have any other rental properties and I take great pride in my only house I have owned. Thank You
Great place! Great location!
I stayed for a week with my 2 standard poodles for work. Great neighborhood, centrally located, quick street car ride to downtown or city park. The place was clean and Matt was very accomodating. If you are staying with pets there isnt really a yard so you have to walk them to potty but it is on the corner so you can walk them in the huge neutral ground on Jefferson Davis. Overall a great stay in mid city!
Matt was great . He let us know exactly how to get in and everything. The neighborhood was peaceful and safe . The streetcar was very close . This made it easy to get around . The place could use some updates and an iron & ironing board , but over all it was a great stay and I would stay again .
I’m glad you had a good time. The iron and ironing board are located under the bed in the guest room.
Great experience- had a blast!
Loved Matt's place. It was walking distance to the trolley - there were also some very cool bars in the area and we were able to really explore mid-city!
