About this property

Peace and Tranquility in France. Rustic one bedroom Gite.

When we first saw the space, after purchasing the house, we exchanged looks and came up with the plan how to make this work. We then shared this vision with a rather doubtful friend who was at the time contracted to make our dream come true. He listened in horror but then he got carried away with our enthusiasm and the plan for this gîte was born. It is a lovely open space with massive French windows looking into endless greenery where you find your private garden space. There is a cosy bedroom, open plan kitchen, living/ dinning area and a massive bathroom.
The Kitchen is fully equipped with all the things you will need for your stay, in the bathroom you will find towels and other essentials, bedroom linen is of course provided. This gîte speaks comfort, light and space with a warm feel.

To stay in touch with the world we ensured good wifi signal but we encourage you to forget the world and submerge yourself in here and now. Sunset, a glass of wine, nature all around you. However if you need something else to do there is canoeing, horse riding, hiking, cycling, hot air balloons, paddle boarding, kayaking, the opportunities are endless. For a great summer night out you may want to pop along to the local villages where you will be entertained with either a night market or live music events.

We are 25 mins away from the airport and Bergerac centre. A trip to the most beautiful town of Sarlat will take you just under an hour along the Route de Frois Gras. On the way you will see beautiful towns like Baynac, Take the well worn track to the top of the town to see the view and experience the Castle. In fact several villages around us are classed among the most beautiful villages in France, such as Belves, Monpazier, Limeuil or even Cadouin which boast an Abby listed as a UNESCO heritage site.

Gites, sunbathing, swimming, relaxing... I'm bored now where can I go what's here to see?

You could quite easily spend the holiday sampling the local cuisine following the duck and the wine route or the colorful markets. There is plenty to choose from but if you are like us, having itchy feet on what was supposed to be a lazy holiday, then I have a great news - we are in the perfect spot to see and experience this beautiful region.

Let's see the spectacular grottoes, visit a châteaux this area is famous for, living history theme park, what about a Gothic cathedral or those 17th century gardens near Limeuil.

See the Dordogne from the river while kayaking, canoeing, gorge walking or on the boat trip. What about a view from the hot air balloon or if you are not a big fun of the heights, from the horseback.

For those more active take the rucksack, pack your lunch and discover the picturesque villages on foot or on the bike. Climb the rocks or take part in high ropes course at the stunning Chateau du Val with a zip wire over the lake.
And in the evening if you still have some energy left you must go dancing at the local music festival in the village down the road.

Way out in the sticks
The property was very nice, and somewhat far from cities. I, personally felt the Gite needed some additional level counter space to spread out or some TV trays to put your stuff

Five years ago when we completed our Camino de Santiago hike we felt the time for change came. All of sudden the corporate world and constant chase wasn't for us any more. The more we traveled the more we felt that there was more to life than just endless hours at work and stress. We started to fantasize about a little cottage in the country somewhere close to the nature, somewhere sunny. We tested the waters and looked for the properties and areas and just like that one day this wasn't a dream any more we were living it! We did it!

So here we are embarking on this new journey. We don't know what to expect and we are not sure what the future will bring but we are ready to try because this makes us feel truly alive!

Call it midlife crisis if you like but seating here in the sunshine surrounded by the peaceful beauty, if this is a Crisis I want more!!

Why they chose this property

We looked high and low for somewhere to make our base. First we went to Italy around the area where my family came from. Unfortunately it didnt suit all our needs. On the drive home ot the UK we drove through the Dordogne and we were hooked!! The scenery; the food; the people and so much to do!!

What makes this property unique

The search for a property in this wondrous area was lots of fun!! When we came across this property we were hooked exactly what we were looking for. A house with 5 acres of land. Previously home to Kennels for dogs, run down and in need of love an attention. We nicknamed it the "Dog House!" Wonderful views across the valley and peace. Oh the peace!! I still stand out in the fields and listen to the noise of tranquility. The occasional tractor drives by, but other than only Nature itself breaks the calm.....
