About the property

Quaint Cottage that sleeps 4 in serene setting on warm and clean Lake Hartwell

We have a small, but accommodating cabin on Lake Hartwell. Lake Hartwell forms the border between Georgia and South Carolina and although the lake is attracting more people every year, it stays very peaceful and uncrowded. What's more; the lake is extremely clean and very warm May through September! There are 2 bedroom areas. Twin beds comprise the sole bedroom. The other bedroom area has a full-size bed intentionally located next to a cozy fireplace. Privacy for this bedroom area is provided by a folding screen that can be easily folded back to view the fireplace. We have a full kitchen and one full bathroom. The house has a big wooden deck with rocking chairs, a grill, and a picnic table to enjoy. Furthermore, we have great lake access with a dock. There are chairs and umbrellas for the deck and dock and a canoe which can also be used. Sorry, we don't let anyone use our boats but Harbor Light Marina is a 20 minute drive away where boats can be rented if so desired.

Guests should expect a quiet, relaxing getaway while staying here. The lake is not too busy as most people who have houses on the lake only use them on holidays or weekends. Our lake house is situated in a cove, and almost everyone on our cove lives elsewhere the majority of the time (including us). Toccoa is the nearest town, which is a short, 15 mile drive away. There is Calico Country Store, which is only a 5 minute drive away where basic food & drink needs can be met. The closest gas station is also about 5 minutes away, but any restaurant/shops/attraction needs can be met in Toccoa. Clemson is approximately 45 minutes away and UGA is one hour from the cabin. The cabin is an hour and a half drive from downtown Atlanta.

There is no public transit to this lake house. The Amtrak train runs to Toccoa. Interstate 85 is approx. 10 miles away from our lake house. We can arrange transportation to and from Clemson games and for leaf gazing tours for an additional fee.

This lake house would be perfect for a romantic getaway, or any type of vacation where one is looking to escape the "hustle and bustle." It is a perfect spot to spend family time. This property is NOT conducive for parties of more than 5 people maximum without owner consent. We are an "UNPLUGGED" property meaning no internet and limited reception. Also due to our son's allergies, we are firm on no smoking nor pets allowed in the cabin.

Check-in is after 2:00 pm and Check-out is before 12:00 noon unless special arrangements have been made with the owner. As a courtesy, please let us know your ETA an ETD if possible, prior to the reservation. This aids us greatly in our planning process. A week out, if we have not sent you additional cabin info including directions and access codes, please contact us and we will send it right away.

Cabin Guidelines: There is no smoking nor animals allowed inside the cabin due to our son's allergies. The cabin sleeps four comfortably Additional charges:

1. There is a charge of $20.00 per night per guest over 4 people, not to exceed 5 people maximum.

2. There is a charge of $20.00 if excessive towels and linens are used.

3. There is a charge of $20.00 if guests exceed the 6-8 pieces of complimentary firewood.

Directions and lock box info is given to our guests one week before the rental date.

4. If the cabin is used for more guests on an overnight or daily basis other than what is contracted for, we will ask you to vacate the premises immediately and lose your reservation fee. This is NOT a party place. Sorry but we are firm on this. It is what keeps our little place nice for future guests.

About Cyd Quarterman

We love to travel and meet people and have always appreciated the concept of hospitality to complete strangers.

Cyd Quarterman purchased this cabin in 1995

Why Cyd Quarterman chose Martin

We have enjoyed this sweet cabin as we raised our two sons. Now we are empty nesting and we want others to enjoy our little piece of God's creation.

What makes this cabin unique

This lake has the second largest shore line of any inland lake southeast of the Mississippi. It's a great lake to explore. It is also very clean and warm. I love to swim my laps in the cove three times a week during the summer months. The lake has no dangerous marine life so it makes it the perfect place to enjoy all water sports. If you don't like swimming or boating, it is still the most relaxing place I can think of. If you do like swimming, moon light dips are awesome in our cove!

Delightful weekend home on the lake

  • 5 of 5

Our two guys, 22 and 15 joined us for a long weekend in this cozy home. The location was fantastic, went to Athens for a game and pizza. Rented a pontoon and rafted, fished the lake. The kitchen had all that was needed with AC (hot in Sept). Thanks Cyd for letting us enjoy a slice of your Lake Hartwell heaven!

Charming lake home

  • 5 of 5

This is my second visit within 6 weeks, so that says what i think of this charming lake home.

I may not off been able to enjoy the lake due to bad weather, but luckily there many games to be found. Enjoyed our break, and look forward to going back in the spring. Thanks for sharing your home.

Property was very clean

  • 3 of 5

It was hard to locate the home from the road as the house numbers are white and on a pale blue house, would be helpful to have house numbers at the road. Kitchen was well stocked, although initially we had only plastic dishes, we finally found the China in a cabinet in the living room. It was nice that the owner left a basket of snacks for us, and there were fresh flowers on the dinning room table. Air conditioner worked well and the ceiling fans in nearly every space were nice to have. The outdoor furniture could use a little maintenance as you could not sit on one side of the picnic table as the seat board was loose. Also there were only three chairs on the upper deck, would have been nice to have more to choose from as two out of three were uncomfortable. The lower deck had two chaise lounges and two wooden rockers that looked like at one time they were very comfortable, however they are very worn and precarious to sit on now. The dock was nice and had two chaise lounges and the owner, who had her boat at the dock offered to let us sit in the boat if we needed to get out of the sun when we were on the dock. There is a fire pit for your use, but only one chair is located at that spot so I'm not sure what you would sit on. I also need to mention that the rental should not list that it has a tv as you could not reliably watch it as the reception was so bad. I knew in advance that there was not cable and that really didn't influence my choice of rental as I do not have cable at home but I am able to reliably access the major local channels. Also the rental lists a washer and dryer but instructions from the owner state that they do not want you to be using it. If that's the case it should not be included in the amenities as I would think anyone staying more than three days would want to be washing their suits. There are a lot of rules posted in the cabin, which I can understand that the owners do not want their place trashed, but it does not make it very welcoming, rather one worries that you may be breaking one of the rules, even if you are a responsible person. I also need to mention that perhaps it is due to low water levels, but the water in the cove was very brown and cloudy, we had planned to swim but due to the appearance of the water we did not feel comfortable doing so.

Owner's Response: You have offered some very good suggestions. We will paint the house numbers so they show up better- good idea. There are dishes in every cabinet for use so not sure why there was a problem there. It simply requires looking which brings me to the next point concerning the chairs. I am sorry you did not look in the deck storage but there are several chairs there for use on both the dock, deck and around the fire pit. We keep them there so they do not get weathered like the other chairs you refer to. We are an unplugged facility and state clearly the TV has limited reception. If you are wanting TV, or internet this is not the facility for you. The washer and dryer can be used but it is tricky as stated in the instructions. We try to communicate as much as possible in our guidelines for two reasons; first -we believe in having too much communication versus not enough communication, and second -most people appreciate it. The clarity of the lake water can vary depending on two things; rain and action. If levels are low and there is a lot of action on the lake, it stirs things up. If lake levels are high, the lake looks better. This is lake life.

A slice of heaven on Lake Hartwell

  • 5 of 5

Lovely, comfortable cottage on Lake Hartwell. We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed every minute of it. Plenty of water sport activities available on the property and a marina down the lake of you want to rent your own boat for the day. We took the canoe and paddled across the lake and spent a ton of time at the dock swimming amongst the very friendly neighbors. The cottage and the location was so much more than I expected, we will be back. Thank you Cyd, your lake house is wonderful. Just the time away from the office I needed!
