This Lake House combines the relaxing world of cottage life on the lake with the convenience of having the town within reasonable walking distance with Beer store, LCBO and a Freshmart grocery store .

The famous Hardy Lake Trail and the Torrance Barrens are within a 10 minute drive from the cottage.

The Kee to Bala is also a very well know concert hall and it opens on May 24 weekend. They hosted some very well-known artists last year such as Snoop Dog (not a misprint, I couldn’t believe it either), Kim Mitchell, Blue Rodeo, Sam Roberts, etc.

Friend reunion October

We all enjoyed our stay. Cottage was well supplied- had everything we needed especially the kitchen Beds super comfortable. We walked into Bala for a coffee. Hot tub was great. Sunset was perfect.

Vacay with Million Dollar View

This was a short vacation with an absolutely stunning cottage stocked so well that our breaths were taken away, surrounded by beautiful grounds and mesmerized by Muskoka’s million dollar view. This is a dream cottage with a dream like view. Phil and Claudia are gracious and extremely welcoming and warm hosts. We will rent this cottage again soon.

A wonderful escape from the city

A beautiful cottage located on a quiet lake. The cottage was big and spacious accommodated 13 of us comfortably. It had wonderful decor which made it feel very homey. Kitchen was fully equipped with everything you need. Would highly recommend this cottage to friends and family. Family reunion

We couldn't have stayed at a better place! Perfect size and absolutely everything we needed. Comfortable beds. Great beach area off the dock. We brought a boat and fished. Played lots of games on a couple of rainy days. Walked into town almost every day. Just absolute perfection.

Everything you could ask for! Spectacular facilities, with warm rustic charm. Everything from the kitchen, bedrooms, game room, and that hot tub were just wonderful. Highly highly recommend! We stayed this January, and it's a fantastic winter rental. We wouldn't hesitate to rent this cottage again - wet had an amazing time here. Owners were helpful and available if we had any questions. I honestly can't recommend this cottage enough.

Fantastic Cottage for a group!

This cottage is beautiful and unique, well equipped with an outstanding view of the lake. Excellent for multiple families or groups. Plenty of bedrooms with very comfortable beds and pillows along with 3 large very nice bathrooms. Large sitting area with 3 couches and a view of the lake. Easy to find and very close to the essentials. Owners were very responsive with any questions. Can't wait to go back in the summer!

Fantastic Family Fun!

This was an awesome property, exactly as described. The kitchen was fully equipped, everything you would need miraculously appeared. The lake, dock and water craft afforded hours of fun for our children and grandchildren. Location just outside of town was convenient and all your shopping needs could be met close to the cottage. The owner was east to communicate with and very responsive. A complete cottage guide was provided, which was very helpful. A memorable stay!

Excellent Family Vacation

Our large extended family had a wonderful reunion in July in your beautifully located cottage. We spent so much time outdoors on the dock, in the water and kayaks etc, and in the hot tub. There was plenty of seating for all of us. The house itself was extremely clean and comfortable. Everything we needed was provided for. Indoors the family enjoyed the pool table, and the chess area, as well as the main living room/dining room. The deck was very pleasant to relax on in the evenings. We are looking forward to returning next summer.

A Christmas to remember

Our stay at Philips cottage was absolutely amazing! The cottage is so beautiful, it is decorated so tastefully and they even went full out with the Christmas decorations which was such a nice surprise. It was so cozy and had everything you could possibly need. We had an insane amount of snow and our kids were in heaven! I would recommend to anyone if I could give more then 5 stars I would :) Thank you so much for creating such a great environment for our family. We will be rebooking for next year without hesitation

Amazing property!

Our group loved the cottage and the waterfront. The kitchen have everything we needed, the bathrooms were well appointed with great towels, bed linens were of the best quality. The pool table and fooseball table were great entertainment during the short rain periods and during the evening. The hot tub was very well maintained and the water quality was superb, nice and clear. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, the pictures and information on this listing doesn't do it justice. Good time in Bala

Had a wonderful time at this Bala cottage. Comfortable, spacious, well equipped and in a great location. Rated Cleanliness with a 4 star rather than a 5 star as the Hot Tub was not clean on the day of our arrival. We added chemicals and enjoyed it for the remainder of our stay. Accuracy of On Line listing was also rated as a 4 rather than a 5 as we were both surprised and dissappointed to recieve an additional charge, after our stay, which was the cleaning fee. Beware! The cleaning fee was not included or mentioned in our original on- line quote. It was mentioned on the Rental Agreement , in fine print, which was provided after we booked on line.

Thank you Jerry for your review and the 5 starts, we're happy that you and your group had a wonderful time at the cottage. I apologize for the hot tub water not looking clear/clean on your arrival, sometimes it takes a few hours for the water to clear after adding chemicals. The water was treated just before your arrival and I'm assuming it unfortunately didn't have enough time to clear up properly. As for the cleaning fee, "A $450 cleaning fee will be charged at the end of your stay" is shown on the VRBO listing as well as the rental agreement you signed. It is also not in fine print, it is a separate paragraph right under the financial section of the agreement, in the same font size AND in bold text. If you had mentioned that the cleaning fee was an issue at time of signing the agreement, you could've asked for a cancellation of the booking. We appreciate your feedback.

Beautiful quiet cottage on Long lake

For a get away with children under 12. There were too many potential knickknacks to get broken. Thankfully we didn't have rowdy children and they were well behaved. We came into the cottage and the floor were very sticky. Many things were already broken. The ladder to the bunk beds on the second floor was not attached and the screws were missing. There were nail gun nails on the floor in the basement bathroom and I steeped on one and unfortunately had one of the barbs stuck in my foot. Thankfully it was me and not one of the younger children. There were missing door knobs. Instructions on how to get the hot tub off sleep mode not available.

Thank you for the review and I apologize for the incident with the nails. A door door knob/handle broke off just before your arrival, where the door window had to be removed to gain access to the room. I'm assuming that's where the nails came from and the worker didn't clean up properly. As for the ladder to the bunk beds, it can't be permanently attached otherwise the bottom trundle can't be pulled out. However the ladder does have hooks that attach to the top bunk. for safety while being used. I'll look at it to see if something safer can be done. Regarding the hot tub sleep mode, I wish I had been made aware of it via a call or a text, it only takes a push of a button to take it out of sleep mode.

Beautiful Property, all necessities provided.

We rented the cottage to celebrate my parents 50th. The cottage met our needs nicely, we were 14, and all were very comfortable and had our own space. The cottage is nicely equipped with everything needed. Overall we add a great week. We were able to cook for the group as well as order take out for the group. There was plenty to do in the area. The cottage is centrally located to explore the area. The lake was beautiful, we had a great time swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding. We also had our boat and were able to tube and ski on the lake. It was quiet, not too many boats out which was nice. Owner was helpful with communication while we were making our plans, very responsive to emails. We are disappointed with the refund of the deposit. We were charged almost double what we were told to expect for a clean up fee. I asked for clarification from owner but did not receive any reason for the increase. We actually made minor repairs to the cottage when we arrive and informed the owner of these. We left the cottage exactly as we were told to per the check list. I have rented several properties with VRBO and it is the first time that I don't receive the expected deposit, which is disappointing. Process is not transparent. Owner was not as responsive to my emails when I asked for clarification, I am still left not knowing why we were charged more for clean up. We loved the property and had a great family holiday, but unfortunately I would not do business again with the owner as we are left feeling taken advantage of.

Martine, thank you for the review. I'm very sorry you feel you were taken advantage of in regards to the cleaning fee. I take that comment personally, the fact that all my previous reviews are all very positive tells me that I'm not "taking advantage" of people. I use VRBO and homeaway a few times of year for most of my out of town trips, I know what it feels like being on the other side of the fence, mainly if the property is far from what is shown on the listing. You have to agree this is not the case with my property, I try to be as transparent as possible with my guests. I just reviewed all our communication. Not sure why you were expecting the cleaning fee would be $250. I told you that you would be charged whatever the cleaning crew charged me. I can email you the invoice if you wish to review it yourself. What I did say on one of my emails was the following: "For 2015 I was charging a $250 cleaning fee and $750 damage security deposit, however I had some tenants this year that left the cottage extremely messy (ie extremely dirty bbq, garbage throughout the property, etc) and in some cases it cost me way more than $250 to clean it." This is the reason why for 2016 I decided not to have a fixed cleaning fee. As you know, cleanliness is very objective, what one person considers clean may not be what others consider clean. Having said that, regardless of how clean you left the cottage, there are certain things that need to be done with every changeover, regardless of how nice and clean you left the cottage. A few examples: -all bedsare to be stripped (whether they were used or not) and laundry must be done (sheets and towels) -all 4 bathrooms need to be properly cleaned and sanitized for obvious reasons, even if you cleaned them yourself. -Kitchen counter and fridge need to be cleaned -etc Again, I'm sorry you fell this way and if a $100 refund for the "assumed" difference will make you fell better, please let me know and I'll send it to you.

We've been to quite a few cottages, and this is definitely among the top 3, especially for a larger group. The kitchen is well stocked, the bathrooms are prestine, the facilities are top notch. Definitely a great location for a quiet time away with family or friends.

Cottage Haven

The cottage was great, very clean, cozy & comfortable ! Everything you need in one roof, from utensils, basic amenities and watercraft equipment! We were 11 adults and 2 toddlers & had visitors in between and we were all comfortable. The place is spacious for big groups. Our family enjoyed our stay, we would certainly be back again. We had a wonderful long weekend in Bala, thanks to Phil and his beautiful property. The cottage was so comfortable for our whole family to stay under the same roof. The cottage is beautifully appointed. It was such a thoughtful treat to arrive and find the gorgeous fall floral arrangement on the dining table. I booked a private cottage on purpose to avoid any problems with neighbors, but the neighbors complained anyway and called the police on us. There were cameras around the property and the owner clearly watches it, did not feel the privecly at all

It's unfortunate that the police was called for a noise violation but after speaking with the 2 neighbouring cottagers, it's quite understandable as to why. I was told by both that the adult guests were being excessively noisy and playing "foreign" music while in the hot tub until 3AM. Then a few hours later (approx 6:30AM) multiple children took over the hot tub for most of the day and they did what children usually do while unsupervised...they scream and frolic in the hot tub. At around 11PM that night, the noise was still ongoing and the neighbours weren't willing to have a 2nd night of the same behaviour, therefore the complaint was placed with the local police. As for camera comment...yes there are 2 very visible outdoor cameras so we can monitor who comes and goes, one facing the street and another facing the lake. This is common practice when renting your home to strangers, mainly to avoid organized house parties etc. 48 reviews and a rating of 4.7/5 speaks for itself and we try very hard to maintain our exceptional rating... unfortunately this negative review makes it obvious that we can't please all our guests...especially when they are unreasonable and inconsiderate of others!
