About the property

My condo is located in a classic 1949 apartment complex that was renovated and turned into condos in 2006. The space is very pleasing with oak and tile floors and new big windows with blinds. It's only one story, with no one above or below - and no stairs to go up or down (except to do the laundry) I've never heard my wall mates make a sound! It's tucked away at the back of the condo complex, not bordering any roads. Instead of being stuck in somebody's basement, second floor, or backyard, you'll have your own quiet space to be totally independent.

Walk through the gates to the north and you're right on Division Street, which is full of restaurants and funky spots. Hawthorne and Mt. Tabor are 10 minute walks. The Condominium Complex borders beautiful bungalow neighborhoods on all sides - complete with tree lined streets, colorful vintage houses, lovely gardens and silly dogs.

It's right on a bus-line that will take you everywhere. The airport is one bus ride to the Max that goes right out there - all for $2.50. ($1.50 if you are 65!) Shopping centers are easy drives a couple miles to the east. The back door is equipped with a key pad so you can arrive when you want. My daughter-in-law is the in-town contact for anything crucial that might come up, but so far I've been able to manage the place from Vermont.

About Louise Harrison

My husband and I are in our 60's and live in Vermont. Our son and his wife - and new grand-daughter - live in Portland. We absolutely love Portland and hope to spend more and more time there. We won't ever leave our beloved Vermont, but a few months in Portland every year will make for the perfect existence!

Louise Harrison purchased this condo in 2014

Why Louise Harrison chose Portland

We purchased this property on a whim. Everybody thought I was nuts - but I knew I wanted my own place in Portland. It was the right price and in a great location. My requirements were a quiet place near quaint, walkable neighborhoods, yet near the "hip" stuff of Portland. I wanted hardwood floors, original doors, and a window over the sink.

What makes this condo unique

The feature of this place is that it's in PORTLAND, OREGON! I've lived the last 40 years in the woods of Vermont after growing up in the woods of upstate NY. When I go to Portland, I feel like I'm in some kind of fairy land, full of colors and smells and tastes. It's a city I can handle and appreciate without being overwhelmed by. At our new spot we can walk to the grocery store, park, bakery, coffee shop, hardware store, bar, and dozens of restaurants - including an Ethiopian Restaurant 500 ft. from us. The biking is terrific - flat and full of beautiful neighborhoods - and a dedicated bike route is a block away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I had a great stay at Louise's condo. It was clean, well decorated, and exactly as shown in the photos. Louise was organized with instructions and access to the house. The gated parking spot with assigned spot was a treat. I highly recommend this condo and hope to return soon.

Great location, comfortable bed, no issues.

The place is great and as described. The location in Portland is wondeful with bars and restarsunts within walking distance. The bus stop is nearly visible from the back door. The bed was wondeful and I slept well. Communication was excellent.

What a Great Find

  • 5 of 5

We often look at Portland rentals 6 months or more in advance but do not find what fits our needs. This cute condo was unusual because it had everything that we wanted. It was on a single level, had a complete modern kitchen, designated gated parking, and our own laundry facilities. We also saw upbeat and cheerful decor so were hooked and had to reserve immediately. We spent the good part of the summer there and found lots of fun places, restaurants, and coffee shops close by as well as a friendly community and wonderful neighbors. A bonus to us was that our condo was quiet 24/7 particularly because we are light sleepers. Louise was a great support and helped us with what we needed in a timely manor.

Visit to Portland, OR in June 2016

  • 5 of 5

We needed a place to stay for a month in Portland and chose Louise's. We felt at home and comfortable. The Condo was nicely decorated, neat, equipped, and clean. The location was adequate for our needs: easy access, beautiful Greenway for walks, nearby coffee shops and restaurants. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. Louise gave us easy and detailed instructions about everything we needed to know to get ourselves in and made herself available for additional information. We would definitely go back if we need to in the future and recommend it. The inconvenience was the squeaky wooden floor, the dishwasher that was sensitive to the touch and not always started, and the limited TV-antenna channels.

Perfect size and location

  • 5 of 5

I needed a rental for 3 months while I had a kitchen remodel in Portland. So I knew the area but got to focus on the restaurants nearby I could stumble to BeteLukas and MiMeroMole . For 1-2 people it was th perfect size to set up with parking, laundry down below the Condo. Very secure. Neighbors friendly. I had a internet problem and Louise came to fix it immediately always very available.

Portland condo and host going the extra mile. She did it. Even having Mt Tabor as a "neighbor"!

  • 5 of 5

Clean, clean, clean and comfortable, courtesies to heart's content, location ideal and down the street from loved daughter and family, and the fabulous host! What can I say, other than I have been spoiled for other VRBO experiences, The accommodations and the host were more than I could have asked for. Condo and Louise made my visit to Portland, Or, extra special and that was something. Seeing my family, the reason I was there. The condo and host with the mostest, a bonus. Thank you Louise. I loved my home away from home.

Division Street Condo a Delight

  • 5 of 5

We have one week left in our six week stay in SE Portland and wish we were staying another six. Louise has made this little condo into a comfortable home away from home. You have the delight of having your own private space here. Nicely redecorated, it feels brand new, and having an assigned parking space in a part of Portland where there is mostly on-street parking, was a big convenience. Also convenient is the storage space with the unit’s own washer and dryer.

The condo development has a mix of young families and older folk. The little ones like to play in the common area out front, and are delightful. The unit seems pretty sound proof. We have not noticed any bothersome outside noise.

If you are any kind of a cook, you’ll find the kitchen well equipped. If you are not a cook, you’ll delight in all the restaurants that are close by, including the Division Street food carts. Try the Venezuelan cart for the delicious arepas.

Louise left us lots of information about the area. The area was also featured in a current issue of Sunset Magazine that I am leaving in the unit. This part of Portland feels very small town friendly, and you can easily get to downtown, to enjoy the museums and other big city fun.

We will be back to rent again. Thanks to Louise for providing a comfortable space.
