Overview

About the property

4 Bedroom/ 3 Bath Upscale Mountain River House

Bord D'eau, which is french for "Beside the Water" and is pronounced Bordeaux like the wine, is a charming, upscale, beautifully situated cabin located just 50 feet from the edge of the pristine Toccoa River. One of the many unique feature of this cabin is that not only it is located on one of the river bends allowing for viewing down the river from the East and West side it is easily accessible by foot for fly fishing or paddling down the river. This custom built cypress wood sided cabin seats on 1.1 acres of a well maintained, shaded tree lot that is very park like. There's plenty of room for family outdoor activities in the grassy lawn areas. This unique property gives you a feeling of privacy and comfort but not seclusion as it's only 10 minutes to the city of Blue Ridge which has a great supermarket, Ingles along with many unique shops and restaurants. The Bord d'eau River House has a spacious floor plan with an open downstairs kitchen and dining area which connect to the living area with its floor to roof expansive open space. The custom built gourmet style kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils and has a gas burning stovetop with a vented hood. There are two bedrooms downstairs which share a bath. The Master Bedroom suite located upstairs with its own bathroom and outside private porch area which offer wonderful river views. You'll enjoy lounging and eating on the large 300 sf screened porch that looks out over the river. There's also room for additional seating on the open deck on the entry side of the cabin. Outside, guests will find themselves on the expansive dock that hangs over the river's edge while enjoying the cool early evening air with an aperitif of their favorite beverage and snacks. Also, many memories will take place reminiscing around the fire pit late into the evening hours.

During the growing season, you will find blueberries and flowers growing in the garden areas. The water supply for the cabin comes from a deep water artesian well located in the "outhouse" building in the front yard. For an additional fee: We also have a guest suite as our 4th bedroom above the garage that has a separate entrance sleeps 4!

Bord d'eau is located in a small subdivision of upscale homes mostly comprised of vacation or second homes. The entry road to the cabin is private so there is never much outside traffic coming into the area. With access to the property being on paved roads all the way to the cabin's road, there should be no worries about driving on challenging mountain roads. Located just five miles north of Blue Ridge, GA, at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Bord d'eau River House is where you will experience the beautiful serenity of nature yet all the wonderful amenities of home. This property has 150 feet of River frontage, located on the Toccoa river the #1 trout river in Georgia. This home is a beautiful 4 bedrooms and 3 baths when you include the guest suite. You will find all the comforts of home so just pack your bags and come enjoy this wonderful vacation home away from home.

The Toccoa River itself is a federally protected waterway which flows north into Tennessee where it becomes the Ocoee River. Only a 30 minute drive north will take you to the River launch site on the Ocoee River for some exhilarating white water rafting. The Toccoa River has a healthy population of both Rainbow Trout and German Brown Trout which can be caught although we recommend a catch and release policy in order to maintain a health level of fish in the River ecosystem. There is easy access to the river with the depth being no more than wading level depths at most times.

Why Ashley Gebhard Agent, Randy and Florence Smith Owner chose Northwest High Country

This charming river house sits on a beautiful lot without any houses on either side or behind it....this private setting is rare and allows for total relaxation in a most comfortable environment.

With all the amenities you could want, it's the perfect place to get away from it all without giving up any comforts.

What makes this cabin unique

There is a rocky "fish trap" in the river behind the house which provides the soothing sound of gently flowing water that can be enjoyed from the large Deck overhanging the river.

Also the sunsets can be beautiful while looking downriver from the deck. Interacting with the passing boaters and floaters is always fun too.

Exactly what we wanted!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a long weekend here with our kids and had the best time! We fished, wadded in the river, played football in the yard, took a walk, went to downtown Blue Ridge and had the most relaxing time!!! I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a chill weekend with family and friends! Other family members went just after us and had a great time as well!

Simple a one of a kind!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at the house and thorougly enjoyed ourselves.

Love the set up and how all the windows frim the master, the kitchen and the dining room look out onto the river.

It is very serene during the week but things pick up in the weekends with the neighbors coming into the houses across the way and down the street.

I wouldnt suggest bringing a toddler as we were uber paranoid about the river but still we loved our stay.

We saw some deer in the evening and tons of wild birds from blue jays to geese and wild chicken.

Unless you have Verizon the wifi will be your only connection to the outside world.

The hot tub is around back so just know when its cold there will be a lil chilly hike around to get to it.

Overall my wife and I loved our time there and look forward to staying again when its a little warmer.

Christmas stay

  • 4 of 5

We have rented at least 8 different cabins in the Blue Ridge area and this was the cleanest and best cabin so far!

Ashley the manager was very prompt in responding to any questions. The piece of property the cabin sits on is large and quite private.

A peaceful place to get back in touch with family

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay on the Toccoa River and although we enjoyed our stay last year on Fish Trap we loved every minute of our time at Bord d'eau River House. We had 3 who stayed in the optional suite above the garage and 5 in the main house and both are beautifully appointed. A country feel without being surrounded by too many wooden bears and ducks wearing calico hats. This is a very bright house even on cloudy days. Windows everywhere and the screened back porch was a pleasant extension of the living area. The upstairs porch with hammocks overlooking the river is also very peaceful. The special component was the constant soothing sound of the river clearly heard from open windows in every part of the home. Sitting by the fire pit or on the dock next to the water was special.

The kitchen was well stocked and all appliances we relatively new and well maintained. We did have a little disappointment with the gas fireplace not working, however Ashley was very responsive and did her best to help us get it up and running quickly. We made up for it with wonderful evenings around the fire pit and the weather was very cooperative. The house was very clean and well maintained. It is a beautiful property that has the feel of a French farmhouse created by it's owners. I imagine that it would be especially beautiful in the spring although we had the benefit of the fall foliage and we have some very special family photo's next to the reds and yellows of maples and other trees on the 1.1 acre property. We also enjoyed that there are no houses on either side of the property for some distance thanks to land for sale on one side and a beautifully landscaped property on the other that is owned by a large home higher up the hill from the river.

The road to the property was a little confusing the first time because we relied upon GPS when we should have pulled out the very specific directions provided by Ashley in advance. Most of the drive there is paved with only the last 5 minutes being gravel and there are no steep drop off's anywhere on the 15 minute trip from town. Blue Ridge is a very sophisticated and friendly town and the Ingles nearby is huge. Bring your own liquor as the nearest outlet is about 20 mins away in Ellijay. Hunting and fly fishing is incredible in this area. There's lots to do from whitewater in nearby Tennessee or simply floating down the Toccoa to your home, prior to dam release of course. We will be back!

Best vacation ever!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay. It was honestly the best vacation we have ever had. It was so peaceful and relaxing and we felt right at home. The house was absolutely beautiful and we felt like it was our home away from home. We had everything we needed. We can't wait to go back there. We are definitely going to be making this an annual trip for us for sure.
