Why Teri chose Isle of Palms

IOP is loved by many, so traffic can get pretty crazy on Palm Blvd headed toward Wild Dunes BUT it's not a problem for Station House @ 28th!

Our house is nestled in between the Intercoastal / Morgan Creek and the Ocean, so you don't have to make the LONG trek on Palm Blvd. Just turn left onto 21st Avenue (after the Connector & Harris Teeter on the left) and right onto Waterway Blvd to 28th Avenue and Station House is the last on the left- just before the cul-de-sac.

What makes this house unique

Having a quiet, cul de sac on IOP is almost unheard of but we have it! It is perfect for letting the kids ride their bikes, scooters & skateboards, since you don't have to worry about traffic or a busy street!

Plus, with IOP Rec's tennis courts, basketball, volleyball, yoga, baseball, soccer fields, great children's park and dog park for you to use when you'd like next door, there's something for everyone!

Unfortunately, this will be my first and last time using VRBO for my traveling. I will return to the other tried and true companies I have traveled with the last 20 years. The property itself was nice. The proximity to the beach and beach access are very convenient. We were unaware of the plumbing issues in the kitchen, which made the first impression difficult. The property manager worked out most of the kinks with us. Although, there were a lot of hidden costs after signing up for the property that were not covered under the initial information on the website. We were charged for 3 people who couldn't make it, disappointing the monies not refunded. They had circumstances out of their control, such as accident to hospital that kept them home. I would not recommend this company or property manager.

Owner's Response: What is truly disappointing is this guest's failure to tell the truth about her stay. I found out AFTER she made the reservation that she would not be staying at the property during the stay - she was using the house for a "retreat" that turned out to be for young students. I was very concerned but she assured me that I could trust her since her husband is a chaplain for the Navy in Charleston. Unfortunately, my concerns were correct because they damaged the property, including breaking furniture and damaging the golf cart. She claimed she would repair the damage, so her security deposit was returned but she did not tell the truth about that either. AND she didn't submit this review until AFTER I contacted her about the repairs not being done. I will certainly not rent to "Inspirations by Michelle" or allow any other "retreats" or young students.

Nice house, not so nice yard, great location, golf cart!!

We had a great time on IOP - this house is in a good location - close to beautiful beaches, the IOP Marina, and the main plaza (food shopping, restaurants). You can rent this house for a long weekend where as most houses on IOP are a week at minimum. The golf cart was fun - definitely an experience. (We followed the instructions in the app - but note it is temperamental and can take awhile to get going. You must have patience! We used it a lot and found it easier to get started when there was no weight in the backseat.) The yard is not maintained at all - looked like it hasn't been mowed all summer, and the outdoor patio is not really clean or useable. This wasn't a huge deal because any outdoor time was spent boating or at the beach, but still worth noting for expectations sake.

The interior presents a relaxed beachy vibe with an open concept kitchen/living room and a lot of couch space. The kitchen is spacious and has a blender, a regular coffee maker and a k-cup dispenser. The house also has plenty of beach towels and 2 coolers. We did need to buy household essentials (toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, a dish sponge) halfway through our stay, just as a note the house is only stocked in that dept. for a day or so. We only had six people, I imagine the house / bedrooms might start to feel cramped if you tried for 10-13. Overall a good rental in a gorgeous place.

Perfect weekend getaway

We absolutely loved this house. It was perfect for a girls weekend. We had a large group (9 women) and it was more than accommodating. The kitchen was beautiful and had everything we needed to cook dinners. The golf cart was helpful too! We were able to throw all of our chairs and umbrellas on there to take to the beach, which made life a lot easier!

Wonderful. Perfect for us❣️

If I wanted to buy a beach vacation home, this would be it. Nice residential neighborhood without bad noise nor drunken young folks, family-oriented next door to very nice County Recreation Center playground, tennis courts, basketball courts, porch with rockers, etc., & a straight easy, short walk to an uncrowded white sand beach. Teri, the owner, replied immediately even though it was the Fourth of July weekend. House has huge yard, ample parking, is well-equipped & supplied, good Wifi service, & is charmingly decorated in a beach theme that made it special. Will likely return. Great vacation experience for our 3- generation family of 10.

Mount Pleasant

Perfect location, well equipped

We had a large group and the house was very well equipped for any of our needs. It was walkable to the beach, private back yard and everything we needed was just minutes away. The golf cart wasn't working but we never really needed it so it was a non factor. Would definitely rent again!!

Well-decorated but not functional

Our group enjoyed one another's company and the property's location was a good choice. As a host home, the place didn't feel complete. It required a bit of effort to feel live-able for the weekend and did not feel fully prepared for our arrival. As far as the amount of space, I would never expect 13-14 people to live there comfortably. We were 8 and that felt just right.

The property is well-decorated with a nice color scheme, throw pillows, tabletop candles, etc, but this isn't what I look for in a space for a group. As the ring leader, I felt I should've been able to easily learn my way around. By the end of the weekend stay, we were still asking where certain items were, meaning the house and kitchen weren't necessarily organized to make amenities easily accessible. Consider a binder/booklet printed with information about what to find where, and/or labeling closets, cabinets, etc.

At least two things were not ready for our arrival: one bed was unmade, and the charcoal grill was full of (maybe months' or years' worth of charcoal). Guests shouldn't have to make the bed or empty the grill at the start of their visit.

Another concern with the top bunk was the broken ladder. The ladder was left aside from the bed, with one of the metal hooks detached. It was clearly not fit for use, making the top bunk very difficult to access. That's practically a bed that can't be used.

The most alarming concern was immediately noticeable. In the kitchen, the wood floor next to the island is buckling, and one plank juts above the others by almost an inch. Several of us tripped, prompting us to move a couch and cover it for the majority of the weekend.

In terms of cleanliness, the exposed floors were clean but under couches and corners had dust, crumbs, etc. It's rare to ask guests to do the floor cleaning in a home like this, and upon departure, I thought maybe it's not cleaned thoroughly between guests. I was also alarmed to find a cockroach on the laundry room wall.

We had to purchase trash bags for the kitchen trash - weird, as well as additional toilet paper. There was also no sponge to wash dishes. There was no handsoap in the bathroom. The lack of these amenities makes me wonder about the turnover/preparation for our arrival. It seems commonplace to stock an abundance of basic care products for a group home.

Ultimately, we did enjoy our stay in Isle of Palms, but that was because the company. The home needs improvement.

Owner's Response: I wish you had contacted me so I could have helped you with any issues you were having! Also, if you had downloaded the hospitality app that was sent to you, it would have helped a lot, since it has lots of information that would have answered your questions. Since you didn't mention it, I assume you enjoyed the use of the free golf cart. Most rentals don't offer that. I have forwarded your concerns to the cleaning crew. I haven't had any complaints about them and they clean for lots of homeowners on the island. If you had let me know during your stay, they would have gone back out immediately to addressed them! I love this home and do everything I can to make it very comfortable for our guests. Most houses don't allow a 2-3 night rental like yours, so I hope you enjoyed being able to come to IOP and have a short vacation that doesn't break the bank. :) We look forward to you coming back to IOP!
