About Bill Lynn
The Herreshoff Marine Museum is dedicated to the education of the public through presentations of the historic, innovative designs of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company, Bristol’s great, internationally acclaimed 19th & 20th century yacht design company. The Herreshoff firm produced some of the fastest & most beautifully designed wooden yachts of their day and were responsible for some of the most celebrated yachts in America’s Cup history. Today we celebrate excellence in design, innovation, education, and technologyum
Why Bill Lynn chose Bristol
"Peacock Alley" was the area of the Herreshoff Boatyard where the great America's Cup yachts of the late 19th and early 20th century - the "peacocks" - were hauled out of the water and repaired. When the Museum had the opportunity to buy the house that now occupies that particular spot, we jumped at it, and the Peacock Alley House was born.
What makes this House unique
Peacock Alley at the Herreshoff Museum is RIGHT on the water - the views are amazing! Sailing, kayaking, fishing, boating and watersports are literally just yards away...as is mooring or dock space for your boat. The restaurants, shops and amenities of downtown Bristol are a short two block walk away, so throw your car keys in your suitcase, you won't be needing them. There is a weekly Farmers Market at nearby Mt Hope Farm, and the 18 mile long East Bay Bike Path starts right in the center of town. A gorgeous little un-touristy, old fashioned New England town that is steeped in history, Bristol is only 20 minutes away from the excitements of Newport and Providence.
