Great spot to relax
Hyde house is a remarkably comfortable and luxurious place in which to spend your vacation. I stayed there with my three teenage sons two summers past and we were delighted with the house and its surroundings. The spacious, light-filled kitchen was a delightful place to relax with coffee in the morning. The large, screened in porch allowed us to sit in the evenings and enjoy the peacefulness of the property without the bother of insects. The bedrooms were all well furnished, and the access to Chocorua Lake was the icing on the cake. The boys spent so much time in the water, they swam the length of the lake! Highly recommended!
Tamworth is an idyllic village in the heart of New Hampshire. Surrounded by the White Mountain National Forest in the Lakes Region Tamworth offers a way to relax, get away from it all and live in healthy, natural surroundings, breathing pure mountain air, and eating locally produced organic food. The Barnstormers Theatre in Tamworth was the first American summer stock theatre, founded by Francis Cleveland, the son of President Grover Cleveland, who would summer in Tamworth and go fishing. Every week The Barnstormers put on a different play or musical with professional actors. Visitors love the Farmer's Market held every Saturday morning in the summer and stock up on locally grown veggies, fruits, bread, cheeses, mushrooms, jellies and home-made lemonade and cookies.
Chocorua Lake allows kayaking, canoeing, fishing and of course, swimming, but no motor boats. Bear Camp Pond is perfect for small children as it is shallow and safe, and has a nice wide beach.
Storyland is a few miles north on Route 16, past North Conway.
There are numerous hiking trails to follow, from the easy Great Hill trail with firetower on top, which gives an amazing view, to the challenge of the tallest mountain in the East, Mount Washington. You can also drive up Mount Washington or take a tour bus.Be sure to bring hats and gloves as it is always cold up there at 6000 feet!
