Our A-Frame cottage is in a beautiful tranquil setting on 30 acres of meadows and woodland, with trails. You can watch deer, wild turkeys, birds (an eagle nests close by), or just sit and read and unwind. We are just two miles from Fairview, and not far from Mio, where you can purchase food and supplies, or eat out when you don't feel like cooking. We provide Dish TV, Wifi, wood burning fireplace (wood furnished), fire pit outdoors, Ramp to the front door if needed, swing, grill on large deck, dishwasher, microwave, and coffee pot.
This VRBO partner has demonstrated and is committed to fast response times, the best rates, and a great guest experience.
We built the AFrame in 1969 and have been renting to vacationers ever since that time. We now have the second generation bringing their families. Each year we do an upgrade and our guests love to come back to see what might be the newest project. Our 3 boys helped us clean and mow yards as they were growing up, and now have families of their own. Reuel's profession was building and finishing log homes, so he puts his skills to use at the AFrame. Sara worked at the Nursing Home for 20 years after being a stay at home Mom.
Reuel grew up on the family farm where the cottage is located, and met Sara in Pennsylvania. We live in a log home on the 30 acres so are close by when you need us.
Reuel & Sara Detweiler purchased this chalet in 1969
This is a beautiful place to enjoy all four seasons. In the spring, maple syrup is made from trees on the property, wild flowers, and mushrooms abound in the area. Spring is a good time to view deer, turkey, and migrating birds. Summer is family time for hiking, fishing, swimming, or basking in the Michigan sun. There is time for day trips to Mackinaw Island, or Light Houses along the shore. In the fall, the autumn colors are some of the best in the state. Winter snow and frozen lakes bring joy to skiers, snowmobilers, and ice fisherman. This is also time to enjoy a good book by the crackling fireplace.
The A-Frame cottage is unique with its open stairway leading to the third bedroom in the open loft with upper deck off the bedroom. The WiFi was just added last year and allows you to bring your work with you if you choose. The dishwasher and wood burning fireplace are also new to the AFrame this year. The best thing that many enjoy, is the privacy and away- from- it- all feeling that you have when you stay here.
We did winter hiking in Huron State Park, cross country skiing at Forbush Corners and enjoyed the peace at the cabin. We are booked to return in August we liked it so much.
This was the perfect get away spot! We had everything we needed and enjoyed ourselves.
The cabin is so charming and cozy and cute inside and out. The property is very private and well kept. Plenty of room for our dogs to roam. Ice fishing was great. The cabin was updated and clean. Communication with the owners was so easy and hassle free. Everything was perfect for our little get away. Already checking the calendars to pick a weekend to return.
First of all the owner was wonderful, quick to respond and very accommodating. The location is very secluded and peaceful yet within minutes you can be in town or on the au sable. You can bring your dogs which is huge for us pet parents, and we SO appreciate that amenity, and take it seriously to be responsible for clean up etc. We enjoyed our time there. So the rest of this review is not to discourage anyone!! Cabin was very cozy and cute but in great need of a good scrubbing along with some new pots and pans. Also the blankets need replacing and/or washing. The shower is very small and not user friendly however that can't be changed. We certainly made do and again enjoyed ourselves. I'd suggest bringing own bedding to include blankets and pillows, and perhaps a pan or two but other than that it's a GREAT place for peace, quiet, serenity, and rest!
Cabin was neat and clean.
This was our 14th year spending our vacation at this chalet! We look forward to next year too! We need to just relax and fish, barbecue, take walks, paddle the boat and have a fire in the fire pit. That is our kind of vacation and that is what we have when we are here. The view is awesome and so peaceful. The local area has alot of places that we revisit each year. It feels like our home away from home!
Nearby the cottage are 2 golf courses, a Pioneer Museum, The Michigan Magazine Museum, The AuSable Valley Railroad, horseback riding, canoeing on the AuSable River, groomed snowmobile trails, cross country skiing, several Amish country stores, elk viewing, and more, only a short drive away. Also, Fairview has fresh rolls and doughnuts baked daily, and both Fairview and Mio, have some of the best pizza you can buy!
