Spacious holiday cottage in Deal, easy walk to beach, pier, town and restaurants

'Somerley' is a delightful period spacious cottage located in a quiet road in Deal's historic conservation area and is a few minutes walk from the sea and the centre of Deal. Deal high street was recently voted High Street of the year and Deal has been used for several film sets, Liar and Vanity Fair and Pride and Prejudice. There are unique shops to browse as well main supermarkets (Sainsbury’s, Aldi and Iceland) all within easy walking distance. There is a wide selection of restaurants and pubs to choose from. The house is a short drive from excellent golf courses and the bus and train stations are both within walking distance. London and Canterbury are within easy reach by road and rail. Deal is conveniently located for day trips to France.
The house was built in the early 1800’s and retains much of its original character. The sitting room and dining room have panelled walls and the dining has a roomy table, great for family meals or use as an office. There is comfortable seating in the sitting room and a smart T.V. Guests are welcome to use the books and games in the house.
The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you might need for your visit whether you stay for a relaxing weekend or a summer holiday. There is a small table in the kitchen handy for coffee or an intimate breakfast.
There are three bedrooms on the first floor, one double bed, a twin bedded and a single room. In addition to the first floor bathroom, the single room is fitted with a sink. There is a private courtyard garden leading from the french doors in the kitchen, with a restful water feature, which offers a lovely space to sit outside and enjoy summer evenings.
The games room in the cellar is a fun place for adults and children alike, especially if the weather is not so good.

There is free on street parking in Nelson Street and the surrounding streets with a permit and there are several car parks within walking distance. You do not need a car to enjoy Deal as everything is within walking distance from the house.

Most wonderful stay

The cottage is lovely and one feels at home immediately. The seafront is a very short walk away and we even had breakfast in the courtyard which is beautiful. Walmer and Deal are always worth a visit with their castles and beautiful landscape such as the white cliffs.

Lovely holiday in Deal

Had a lovely stay in this property that had everything needed for a relaxing stay. The courtyard garden with its water feature and barbecue were a lovely place to chill in the evening.The beach just a stroll away as well as the high street. It was a lovely base to explore all the other areas of Kent and I would recommend staying here to friends and family.

Great house

We had a wonderful time - the house is indeed spacious and kitted out thoughtfully and generously. Our children loved the basement games area. A very quiet location but only a few minutes walk to the High Street. We’d love to stay again.

Great place, good location

Lovely well furnished rooms and courtyard, well located for exploring Kent, but also for the beach and the centre of Deal. Owner and housekeeper both very helpful and v clear safety measures for managing COVID-19 risks.

Perfect location

This lovely property is perfectly located for the beach, restaurants and shopping in Deal as all are within walking distance. It's a real home from home with the best equipped kitchen we've ever had in a rental property, even the knives were good. Very clean and comfortable and the owner seemed to really care that we had a good stay, we would definitely recommend, a real gem.

Very nice cottage fully equipped and very well located

We very much appreciated our 3 post lockdown stay in this beautiful cottage very well looked after and nicely and fully equipped. Wendy was a very helpful and gracious host. Deal is a very nice coastal town with nice restaurants (outdoor for the moment) and there is a lot to discover in the region. We warmly recommend this cottage

Lovely property with lots of extra essentials to make life easier. Parking wasn't an issue for us at all. 5 minute walk to the beach. Great communication with the home owner during the booking process and again a couple of days before we arrived. Thank you xxx

Convenient, well kept house.

Nice house on a very quiet street. Superb kitchen and useful room in the cellar with games (though with steep stairs, mind your head going down). Close to the beach, centre of town, and a Sainsburys so no need to drive around. We had a lovely time visiting nearby towns and just walking on the beach.

Well equipped, comfortable house in great location.

We had a brilliant time in Deal and thoroughly enjoyed staying in this house. It had everything we needed - comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, sunny courtyard and pleasant living space. It was ideally located for the seafront where we spent most of the weekend. Lots of pubs and shops within 10 minutes walk. Communication with the owners before and after our visit was excellent. Highly recommended!

Delightful

The house has everything you would have in your own home, well presented and very comfortable. It's well positioned for all the amenities, we loved being able to walk to the beach. The extra parking permits for the second car were essential, thank you for obtaining them for us.

Fabulous house

Just returned from a week in Deal staying in Somerly...the house was fabulous, super clean and very comfy...all you could want and more...decor/linen etc all very tasteful....patio lovely sun trap and handy basement with toys for children on rainy days.... Would thoroughly recommend ...Deal has lots to offer ..good walks...pubs...eateries.....galleries and lots to visit locally.

Fantastic weekend stay.

What can I say this place? Well it is fantastic!! Set in the heart of old Deal it is a real gem, spacious with loads of old world charm but with every mod con you could need. We stayed with our 2 teenage son's and we all found it very comfortable. Deal it's self is very charming with loads of bars and eateries with a good selection of shops to have a mooch round. We will definitely return in the future and can't recommend it highly enough.

Great stay - very nice house, spacy, cosy, full equiped, great kichen, clean and with good service

We had a great stay in Deal. The house is very spacy ( biggest in the street) with 3 comfortable bedrooms, a great kitchen with full equipment - very good for self catering - and a seperate dining room, a playroom for children.... Superb service including towels and linnen ( beds were already prepared ☺) and a welcome package . The house is very central, near to high Street, sainsbury and the beach, so you do not need the car in Deal. We enjoyed our stay ! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Very comfortable house in a quiet street

We had very nice holidays in this house and we highly recommend it. The house is located near the centre of Deal. It is well appointed. The beach with pebble stones (5 min.), the centre (5 min.), shopping facilities (5-10 min.) and the railway station (10 min.) are all within walking distance. From Deal there are hourly trains going to London so that a day trip is possible.

Lovely, comfortable cottage

We had a lovely and comfortable stay at somerley. Cottage was very clean and was the most well equipped holiday cottage we've ever stayed in! Wendy, our host, was attentive to our needs. Location was very centre to everywhere we wanted to visit...Dover castle was 20mins away, sandy beaches at botany bay n joss bay was only 40 mins drive. Deal beach was 10mins walk n we loved our visit to Deal castle n walked along the promenade to Walmer castle. Definitely recommend.

We, a family of four visited deal in July 2022 and spend two weeks at Wendys cottage "Sommerly".

Great comfortable cottage with a lovely small backyard, fully equipped and in walking distance from, city center, station, beach, supermarkets and shops. Even the cellar had games for the kids. Wendy, the landlady, was always of help. I rate five out of five stars. Really to recommend.

A lovely place in the middle of Deal

We had a great stay in this nice vintage-like place. There was room enough for the five of us. We enjoyed the courtyard for having breakfast and the short walks to the beach and the city centre. Espacially nice was the uncomplicated contact to our landlady Wendy via E-Mail. PS.: We were booking from Germany (fewo-direkt.de), the translated description is a little misleading, because the house is not situated in rural areas or close to the nature but in the historic evironement of the city centre.

Lovely house, 6 out of 5 stars ... :-)

We had a wonderful week in Deal, and the whole family fell in love with this beautiful cottage, and with Deal! The house is very well equipped and very good looked after! The patio is lovely, and the kids liked the the playroom in the basement very much. It's just a five minute walk to the sea, the next pubs, a great fish & chips (highly recommended!), and to the city centre with it's lovely shops. Wendy was most helpful, and we'd love to come back! This was by far the most beautiful holiday home we ever had - thank you!

We have lived in the area since 2000 and we love being by the sea and yet in a town at the same time. Our children have grown up in a safe delightful place which is dear to all of us.

I have always admired the pretty houses in Deal, particularly in the Conservation area. We love our house because it has character and charm and it is in the heart of a thriving town and yet in a peaceful spot. We enjoy being able to walk everywhere and not need the car. If we want to go to Canterbury or London they are both easily reached by car or public transport.

Many of our guests comment on how well equipped the house is. We really do try to provide everything anyone could want on holiday and to make the house as welcoming as possible. We love our house and we want our guests to feel that it is their home during their stay.
