It is my goal to provide an excellent vacation experience for our guest, and we do our best to keep the units unique and fully stocked with items you would expect to have in your own home.
We understand our guest typically represent multiple families and provide King size beds in each bedroom so no one feels left out when it comes to bed time, everyone has a large flat screen TV, and the privacy of a bathroom located next to the bedroom or on suite. Who really wants to share a bathroom with their friend’s kids in an open hall? We also make sure we have four beach chairs w/built in coolers, a beach cart, two umbrellas, surround bar or system, Netflix, Xbox 360, Gas grill on the balcony, private hot tub on the balcony, and a fully equipped kitchen.
Heron L01 is located just high enough for an amazing view of the bay. The huge lanai is perfect for morning coffee, meals, or afternoon drinks while viewing the beautiful bay. What makes this lanai more unique is that you can elect to be in the covered section if you don’t want to be in the sun or in the open section along with the private grill and hot tub all located on the same level unlike the other lanai or penthouse units at Destin West!
The original owner was a physician who had the unit completely upgraded and he used it as his full-time residence for several years. This means you as our guest get to enjoy upgrades that few if any other unit in the entire complex can boast! Travertine, hardwood floors, 3 CM granite on all countertops, upgraded GE Profile appliances, and custom cabinets and lighting! Staying in this unit is like having a luxury beach house because of the size with the advantage of best in class amenities a short walk from the balcony!
Heron L01 is the largest unit @ the Heron building. Only three other lanai units in all of Destin West compare in terms of size and amenities. These are Heron L03 along with Osprey L01 & L03. Units in the 01 & 03 stack are approximately 50% larger than any other beach or bay side @ Destin West. That extra space truly makes a difference when you are on vacation! Only the L01 units have the hot tub and gas grill on the main balcony. The advantage of the Lanai units is that you can walk directly from your balcony to the pools or your private garage. The garage is another nice feature as we provide four beach chairs, two umbrellas, and a beach cart for your enjoyment. It also will nicely separate the sand from beach toys from the inside of the unit. We have even set up a second den to create two lounging areas for our guest to spread out and for the kids to separate from the adults if they or you desire!
As the owner, I am accessible before, during, and after your stay. Our management company is located on the island and can handle immediate needs or emergencies. This is a convenience most VRBO owners don’t provide.
UNIT LOCATION & SCOOP ON DESTIN WEST BEACH AND BAY RESORT:
Destin West offers the best combination of location and amenities on Okaloosa Island or Destin. Our 700-foot lazy river is easily three times the size of the next closest in the area including Waterscape! As far as amenities go the jewels of the resort are located on the bay, because these units allow immediate access to the best pools and newest units! The 700-foot lazy river is fantastic along with two expansive hot tubs, a huge zero entry pool, private heated (when necessary) pool just for Heron guest, and another large heated pool (when necessary) complete with waterfall between the two hot tub areas! On top of this you can go fishing right off the private pier!
The beach side is also wonderful with a complete gym, large swimming pool, hot tub, access to use the Ramada Inn’s Splash Garden Water Park, and of course the beach. Both sides can be accessed using the walk over preventing any need to get in a car or walk across a road. The walk from our unit takes approximately 5-7 minutes to reach the beach.
In terms of location Destin West cannot be beat. We are within a quarter mile of eight restaurants, the convention center, a 4-mile stretch of undeveloped beach, boat/jet ski rental next door, and the brand-new entertainment complex known as Wild Willy’s, www.wwazone.com. These attractions can be easily walked to from our unit! Not to mention you will be less than five miles to the Destin harbor and tons of additional restaurants (15+) and fishing/boating. Additionally, you are less than 1.5 miles from a Publix Grocery and another 10+ restaurants in quaint downtown Fort Walton Beach.
You should know what is unique about each of the five main buildings that make up Destin Beach and Bay Resort. The gulf side was completed in 2002, the original developer finishes are simple with basic tile, no granite, and the floor plans are somewhat choppy. Additionally, the original floor plans did not have 3 bedrooms as the developer had not installed a door and the “third” bedroom is only 12’3” X 8’11’’. The largest gulf side unit is 1279 SQFT H&C (1475 total). As an owner in multiple buildings along the beach, I would encourage folks to consider Waterscape if being on the beach is primary but you are also looking for awesome pool amenities.
On the bay side of Destin West, we have the other four main buildings: Heron, Osprey, Pelican, and Sandpiper. Both Heron and Osprey are located directly on the bay, these units range in size from 1567 SQFT H&C (1790 total) to mine at 2416 SQFT H&C (3824 total) and were completed in 2006. Heron also is the closer of the two to the beach walkover. The units in the Sandpiper and Pelican building offer smaller and less costly accommodations. These were completed in 2004. The standard developer finishes are slightly better than the gulf side but are not nearly as well done as Heron or Osprey. They are also smaller @ 1270 SQFT H&C (1395 total) being the largest 3-bedroom unit. If you are looking to save money and don’t need to sleep 8 or more folks, these make a great option! I would lean toward the Pelican building as it is closer to the beach walkover. As you can see the best combination of size and finishes are in the newer buildings, and ours is the largest unit located all on one level in the Heron building which is closest to the beach walkover.
