We really enjoyed our stay at this relaxing cottage. So quiet and peaceful. Being able to walk out the back door and down the steps to the water was wonderful. The house was very clean and we just loved the Scandinavian feel of the crisp white and red colors. Can't wait to come back!
Rude property owner
First impression when you drive up on the house, unkept, weeds were knee high. The inside was nice but, dead bugs all over the floor. My husband took a dip in the lake upon our arrival and when he came back in to take a shower, he discovered we had no hot water. I reached out to Rich by email only to get an call from him him in which he was completely rude. Now, Rich will will tell you he was dealing with the tornado clean-up but that doesn't give you a pass on being rude to your customer. He asked me several questions and I responded with a southernly response of "yes sir" only to have him tell me to cut it out. I'm in the service industry and no matter how bad my day is going, I would never talk to a customer the way he talked to me. No hot water and no plumber until the next morning. NOT HAPPY. No apology for the inconvenience, no offer of compensation. We have rented through VRBO many times and this was our first bad experience. I would not recommend this property or this property owner.
This is Rich. My wife and I own manage and maintain the cottage It's All About the Lakeshore. I am the person totally responsible. I am not going to dispute the basic facts of the review, however, there is always the barber's view, the bartender's view and the other side of the story. I will respond to a few in order. We leave the natural vegetation grow around the cottage and we add a few accents of annual flowers. I believe the property looks very similar to the pictures on the VRBO listing. This keeps the property compatible with the rustic nature of Lakeshore Road. It is our conscious decision to not have a manicured lawn, nor use herbicides and fertilizers that can be a big problem that can affect the quality of the lake water. It is also a conscious decision not to use pesticides inside the cottage. We do not apply chemicals that could affect the health of our guests. We do treat the outside of the cottage to discourage other inhabitants on the property from coming inside. I believe I did make it clear to the guest that we do not live in Door County, but are there often. When we prepared the cottage for the summer season a few weeks earlier, there were no dead bugs and the hot water was working. Yes, I spent the entire day dealing with damage from the worst storm we have had in over 50 years. My wife drove over to inform me of the phone call about no hot water. I set down the chain saw immediately and returned the call to the cottage guest. That was between 4-5 o'clock in the afternoon. Admittedly, that conversation did not go to the satisfaction of the guest nor myself. Upon ending the phone conversation, I immediately called the emergency number of three plumbers. That was about 5:20 P.M.. At 7:57 A.M.the next day, I got a call back from one of the plumbers and the repair was scheduled. The hot water was restored by 10:00 A.M. that day. I did communicate several times with the guest about the progress of the repair. It is my recollection that I did apologize several times for the inconvenience. But, that is a "she said, he said" situation. I would believe the guests did receive the package of unique Door County items we sent to them after their stay. We have provided lakeshore accommodations to several hundred vacation travelers over the past dozen years. Yes, there have been a couple other issues that I can count on one hand, but most of the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
Great place to getaway from door county "hustle and bustle" but close enough to visit all the popular attractions. Owner is very easy to work with. Good place for kids, especially ones that like to "explore".
The town of Jacksonport is less than a mile's walk from your cabin, just to the north, either along the lakefront or up quiet Lakeshore Road. Jacksonport features a variety of galleries, craft shops, antique shopping, and even a winery. There's a shoreline park with beach, and a grocery store for supplies.
To the south, it's two miles to two spectacular parks, Cave Point County Park and Whitefish Dunes State Park. Whitefish Dunes has the highest sand dunes in Wisconsin and a mile long beach and boat launch; Cave Point is a scenic destination for kayak tours from local outfitters.
Door County has all sorts of lodging choices- great hotels, inns, and bed and breakfasts- but none offer the unique privacy and unhurried pace of having your very own cottage by the lake. We provide you with a complete, clean, modern, one-of-a-kind vacation cabin to start from, Door County provides everything you might want to see or do- and you choose how to make it your own unique summer vacation.
If you have done the rest, the #1 activity in Door County is "doing nothing." You will find no better place.
It simply couldn’t be more inviting.
Come, sit, relax and be transported by the primal
life force sounds and sights of Lake Michigan. Be
comfortable indoors, or create memories as you
connect with the Great Lake. No hours, no days.
