Thar’s gold in them thar hills! Dahlonega, the Georgia gateway to the Appalachians is the site of the first U.S. gold rush. Come pan for gold in historic Dahlonega on the Chestatee river. This large home is located directly on the Chestatee river just before the Coppermines. It was recently renovated, and is now ready for eager treasure hunters and vacationers. We have central heating and air with a ductless air conditioning system in the honeymoon suite on the top floor of the house and we continue to make improvements each year so our guests have a good experience!
This warm, inviting home on the river was built in 1997. It has five bedrooms, three and a half baths, two great rooms, and two kitchens. All the rooms have high ceilings including the ground floor. If you like vaulted wood ceilings and the heavenly sound and view of the river just about one hundred feet off the covered back deck this is place to spend your vacation.
There are two suites upstairs each on a different floor with their own private bathrooms. Guests with bad knees or other disabilities can get to the mountain splendor bedroom on the main floor by going up just three steps outside and we have a handicap shower/bathtub bench for the main floor master bathroom. The house is not handicap accessible although one guest with a wheelchair commented in her review she was able to get around the main floor just fine. The honeymoon suite is the top floor and has an Amish king-size bed, a sitting area, a vaulted wood ceiling and a full private bathroom. The main floor master bedroom has a king size bed and a full private bathroom. The terrace level (ground floor) has three bedrooms of which two have queen size beds (the third bedroom has twin beds with a built in bunk-bed above for children under 12) one full bathroom, a great room/kitchen combo and a terrace under the main deck that also looks out at the gorgeous river and shoals. There is a day bed with a trundle bed below in the terrace level great room so a total of nine guests can stay on that ground floor level and we recently added another day bed in the Honeymoon Suite. So in total there are two king beds, two queen beds, two twin beds with a built in bunk bed above for children under 12, two day beds and one with a trundle bed below it, two roll out cots and two heavy duty camping cots.
Take your choice of the Goldrush bedroom with golden walls, a queen size sleigh bed, the waterfalls bedroom with a queen size bed or the wilderness adventure bedroom that has a built-in bunk bed and two twin beds below (kids love it)!
The accommodations are perfect for two couples with children, large extended families, a girls, guys or couples getaway, wedding parties (we get a lot), family and company gatherings and wine tour groups. The main floor and upstairs suites have an old feel to them even though the house is relatively new. Several rooms have antique dressers and gold accents. We have four televisions with Direct TV; the two upstairs bedrooms each have one and the two great rooms each have a television.
There are several old photos of civil war heros and the old south as well as some books about the area. The ground floor has an open airy feeling with high ceilings and lots of windows. Even the bathrooms are fun in this house! You'ens come down yonder and have yur picture taken with our life-size wooden hillbilly, Jed! He'll be out on the deck with his moonshine awaiting your arrival.
