Overview

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 10

This metal sided lodge with a metal roof was once offices for a construction company. The owners happened to be our landlords when we rented their cottage across the field. We fell in love with the 2000 acre park behind us and wanted to create our own space.

Since we renovate homes for a living, we were able to collect a lot of items along the way that didn't fit someone else's vision for their new space. There was also the mismeasured door or cabinet or window that needed a new home. All of these lovely items found a new home in our converted structure. The screened porch was a covered dirt floor for lumber. Our great room was a garage and the bedrooms were offices. As you can see from the pictures, it has come a long way.

It is hard to get the experience of feeling you are a million miles away from everything unless you take out a second mortgage on your home and head to the Polynesian Islands. Fortunately for us, we found this crown jewel of a 2000 acre park called Warren Dunes on the lake one hour and twenty minutes from Chicago. We are on the North end of the park away from the main entrance so it is like owning your own private estate on the lake. We hardly run into a soul all year round. Since we can not enjoy all the time ourselves, we decided to share the secret with you..

The house was well stocked could have had more towels

There were only a few issues . I felt it wasn’t taken care of and it was starting to fall apart and places you could see the problems and wished that the owner would take better care of the home, overall we had a great stay,It was big enough for everyone the tub hot tub was OK until it broke and we enjoyed the beach and the fact that there was a beach wheelchair for our client to go down to the water nice place

Owner's Response: The hot tub broke when they were using it so it is questionable what happened. They brought dogs without paying the required guest fee nor notifying me they were bringing dogs. When they used up all the internet data from the large group streaming even though my instructions ask people to not do that I bought additional data .i have satellite service. The house is continually being updated so I don’t know what she is referring to.

Relaxing

  • 4 of 5

Overall, a nice little place to stay for a weekend.

One suggestion to Patti, every vrbo place we have stayed has had a small binder/folder that has information about the house and area. Although you were VERY nice when we called you a couple times with questions, a little info provided would have been nice to look at.

Shopping, restaurant and beach information is always appreciated. And of course, anything about the home is, too.

All in all, tho, not a bad experience.

We loved this house and location!

  • 4 of 5

We celebrated my sister’s wedding at this house and it was perfect. Right off the highway and also had a road that takes you straight to the dunes. It was snowing and such a beautiful spot. We did a winery tour and everything was close by. The house has many hangout options with the fire pit area and back porch. We weren’t able to use the broken hot tub but Patti made that right with us! The people staying at the houses next to us were super friendly too. We would love to come back to this house in the warmer months and enjoy the dunes. Thanks!

Mom and Daughter trip

  • 4 of 5

A little a remote not too much around it but fairly easy to find. Instructions for turning the heat on would have been nice. We has a small issue with the coffee pot and Patti called right away and it was taken care of immediately. Also, the firewood is not provided for you. You have to purchase it. The hot tub was great fit 6 adults perfectly. Over all we were pleased with it.

I loved it! My husband said it was ok.

  • 4 of 5

This was our first time in a vacation home and I was thrilled with it! We were surprised at how close to the other rentals we were but luckily no noisy neighbors. The interior was just as expected and very comfy. The kitchen had everything we needed and even a bag of ice in the freezer.

The outside of the grounds were a little rough with some pallets and other debris scattered around. The fence between properties was in need of repair. My husband mentioned that the property wasn't very secure. The overhead garage door lead into our unit and not locked.

The property was listed with a walk to the beach but it was a huge hike even for folks in shape.

Overall it was a great getaway for us and being able to take our dog was wonderful.

We would go back so that says a lot! Thanks for a great stay.

Perfect cottage near sand dunes and new buffalo!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect homey getaway cabin right next to sand dunes that we walked every morning with the dogs. 15 min drive to new buffalo and st joes! Excellent yard for the dogs and the porch with the jacuzzi was so nice in the afternoon to relax on! Beds we're very comfy!

I back up to the 2000 acre park called Warren Dunes. I am also in the middle of all the wineries.
