La Casa Del Sol is a well-appointed house on North Captiva Island. Our crew consisted of 10 people, 4 adults and 6 children(ages 3-13). For the good, the kitchen is well stocked furnishings are nice and home is in decent condition. North Captiva Island is away from it all, the rooftop deck on La Casa Del Sol is amazing; sunsets and sunrises are beautiful! The pool was a must and our kids loved it after a day at the beach! The house has everything you need, beach chairs, umbrellas, games, poolside bar, cornhole, outdoor shower, etc. For the bad, there is an issue with the upstairs(envelope, HVAC, etc.). It's very muggy, damp and actually wet upstairs. The bunk room temperature was cool, but other bedroom upstairs was warm and both were oddly damp all the time. Downstairs, the HVAC would creep up in temperature during the hot of the day. Both golf carts need replacing. Upon arrival on Sunday, one broke down and had to be towed. The same cart broke down again Monday and the other cart was intermittently breaking down and working. We repaired one on Tuesday and then by Wednesday both were picked up and fixed and owner treated us to dinner at Mainstays(Barnacles) for our time. We attempted to rent an extra cart, as did the owner and none were available on the island. For the....Tortuga management was less than par. They did have a representative in TN that was responsive, but otherwise we would send texts and get replies, but no communication or follow up. We contacted the owner(based on some passed reviews that mentioned this same issue) and worked through them. Our grocery ordered was not picked up(at least not 75%) of it. When we arrived, about 25% of our food was there(no cold stuff). I called Publix directly and from what I heard, the Tortuga representative only picked up the non-perishable groceries.Cold food was delivered around 10am Monday. With no grocery store options available, we purchased 7-8 items for $40+ at Mangos to get milk and try to get us by for breakfast. In the end, it was a rough start to the week, but by Wednesday we had settled in with working golf carts and could enjoy all that North Captiva Island had to offer. We can see the appeal, but would necommend properties managed by Tortuga. Wildlife is abundant, including ospreys, manatees, dolphins, snakes, tortoises, etc. Beware, mosquitos are abundant too(bring plenty of bug spray)!!!Shell collecting was fun, we found sand dollars and conch shells galore!
