About Emiliana Cruz
Born and raised in southern Oaxaca, I am a co-founder of Los Cuiles Cafe and an assistant professor of anthropology at Centro de Investigaciones y Estudios Superiores en Antropología Social, in Mexico City. I specialize in the documentation and preservation of indigenous languages. Other interests include ethnomusicology, and cooking Oaxacan food. My husband Daniel was born in Mexico, but raised in the United States. In college and graduate school, his travel and research interests were mainly in eastern Europe, particularly Albania and the former Yugoslavia. He began to explore his country of birth in his 30s. He first came to Oaxaca in 2000. Daniel is fascinated by the cuisine, languages, and vibrant social life of Oaxaca. He is a member of a dance collective that meets weeknights in Oaxaca City. Our home was designed in 2014. Construction began in April 2015 and was completed in September 2015.

Beautiful, unique accommodations
Emiliana and Daniel were fantastic hosts. Very responsive to anything we needed, including helping communicating with a pharmacy for us when our son came down with a cold. The location isn't for out of shape people, but the view is worth it! A truly magical experience. Thanks!
