Cottage in Eye, Suffolk, England

About sarah beesley
I live in Hertfordshire, England with my husband and two children. The cottage was refurbished as our second home and, as such, is fitted to an excellent standard. We bought the cottage after being frequent visitors to Eye for many years and used to spend much of our spare time there. My husband and I both work together in our family run business and sadly find that we have less and less spare time with the demands of our family and expanding business, so we've decided to let our cottage for others to enjoy it.
Why sarah beesley chose Eye
We've always loved Eye since our very first visit some twenty years back and it will always have a place deep in our hearts. We felt so at home in Suffolk that we even chose to get married in Eye some twelve years ago (despite all of our family and friends living in London and Herts). It's a fantastic base for exploring East Anglia and there are so very many interesting places to visit locally and further afield.

Very bright, clean and cosy
We had a lovely time at the cottage which had everything we needed. With the CoOp over the road an added bonus (not noisy). Very pleasant and highly recommended.
Good base to explore Suffolk
The Cottage was clean and had a homely feel. The downstairs rooms were of good proportions. Upstairs are two double bedrooms and a bathroom which appeared to have been refitted recently as it was in immaculate order and had a good power shower. The sink is only intended for washing hands and cleaning teeth and the lack of a plug was not really conducive for wet shaving. Three rolls of toilet tissue were provided which was thoughtful. We found the bed (in the main bedroom) to be rather on the firm side. Although we didn’t cook here, the kitchen seemed to have everything you need. Washing up liquid and brush were provided. Parking is on street and each time we managed to park almost opposite the cottage so no worries there. There is a small Co-op about 50 yards from the front door and another slightly larger Co-op in the centre of Eye which also boasts a fish and chip shop along with butchers, ironmongers, antique shop etc. Overall, a very good cottage for the price.
A Great Place To Stay In Eye
Easy to access. Well appointed - it had everything that my wife and I needed for a long weekend break. Parking on the road. Quiet. Very convenient for local shops and pubs. We would be delighted to stay here again.
Eye is very well located for exploring the region. The cottage is comfortable and very well appointed with everything you could need for an enjoyable stay.. A small hiccup with the access code was swiftly and efficiently resolved by our hostess.
Lovely weekend spent in spacious cottage. Good location for the village and exploring the local area.
Cottage was very clean with everything we needed for a weekend away.
Would visit again

A very enjoyable few days away.
Recommended beaches :
Adleburgh – well renowned for serving the UK's best fish and chips
Gorleston – great for children with a lovely long golden sandy beech with children's paddling pool set on the beech itself
Great Yarmouth – lovely beeches, donkey rides, amusement parks
Situated within the heart of the Conservation Village being almost equidistant to Norwich, the coast (Southwold and Aldeburgh), Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich and all of the beautiful villages and towns in between.
Eye has a great variety of shops including a bakers, TWO butchers, TWO Co Ops, a newsagents, a deli, a pub (The Queens Head), a hardware store, various antique and gift shops, beauty salon, hairdressers, post office, restaurants and cafes/tea rooms.
The nearest 'big' town is Diss, just over the Suffolk/Norfolk border (5-10 minutes by car). Diss has a bustling pedestrianised quaint high street with shops such as Boots, Tesco, Costa Coffee, Co Op and a large number of wonderful independent shops (Carnells the butchers is highly recommended!).
You will also find a great park in Diss for the children with a large play area and stunning Mere, a big soft play centre (Monsters) and a swimming pool.
Thornham Country Park is just 5 minutes by car and has approximately 12 miles of marked footpaths on the Thornham Estate and offers some surfaced paths, suitable for push chairs and wheel chairs, which leads for half a mile to the Thornham Walled Garden and takes walkers past birds hides, a pets cemetery, along the Thornham Rock Trail to the Victorian Foll. There is a cosy tea room at one end together with a children's play and picnic area and a restaurant at the other end.
The Ruins of Eye Castle in Castle Street is less than 5 mins walk from the cottage (seasonal opening)
Eye has its own equestrian centre who are happy to arrange lessons for complete beginners right through to advanced riders.
Banham Zoo sits just outside Diss and also makes a great day out for the little ones.
Many people also enjoy visiting Bressingham Steam & Gardens which is located just a little west of Diss. The cottage is is also well positioned for access by car for Thetford Forest, Newmarket, The River Deben and The Norfolk Broads.
The Norfolk Broads makes a truly lovely day out and is recommended for all ages, lots of places to eat overlooking the water and boats for hire.
Thetford Forest is home to 'Go Ape' and is also a super place for walking, cycling (bike hire available), playing, picnic's and simply enjoying the natural beauty of the forest and all it has to offer.
