Apartment in Freshwater, Isle of Wight, England - Peaceful Location Short Walk to The Beach
Why Barney chose Freshwater
We have lived in the West Wight for over 30 years It's a beautiful part of the world with a lovely rural feel but the wild south-west facing coast on our doorstep. I love the Freshwater Bay. In the summer we swim, kayak and fish for mackeral, spring and autumn is great for surfing - the Bay is one of the Island's best surf breaks - and the winter the storms are spectacular and a great time for beach combing.
What makes this Apartment unique
With one coast facing the English Channel and Atlantic Ocean and the other facing the Solent and the mainland the West Wight has a very different atmosphere to the busier eastern side of the Island. Local landmarks include Freshwater Bay, The Needles, Tennyson Down, Fort Victoria, Alum Bay Cliffs and Yarmouth Castle but there are other places like Newtown Creek - an unspoilt haven for wildlife, Hannover Point with it's dinosaur footprints on the rocks, the ancient standing stones at Mottistone and Hulverstone and beaches ranging from safe and sandy to wild and rocky!

A lovely place to stay with own garden. Great if you have a dog. Lots of walks on the doorstep and a cycle path to Wroxley and beyond. Comfortable bed and modern decor.
A truly relaxing holiday
The Studio was bigger than we expected and provided all we needed. The garden was ideal for dogs as it was safe and secluded and very relaxing. Island is very dog friendly as were the people we met. It was like stepping back 20 or so years with a much slower pace and was truly a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. We would highly recommend the Studio as a base.
Thankyou for the review Barry. Here in the West Wight we are definitely quieter and less busy than the mainland (and the rest of the Island!) - but we like it that way, and I'm glad you enjoyed your trip back in time too!
Perfect location for 2 healthy walkers
Compact, bijou apartment for active ‘get-out-&-see-everything’ couple.
Wonderful scenery everywhere on the Island both when walking & from the excellent Island buses.
Every evening we sat at Freshwater Bay in blissful calm watching the sun setting with a large glass of wine from the Albion Hotel
we really enjoyed our stay at Studio Apartment, just the right size for 2 of us, lovely layout inside, will visit again.
Excellent location for exploring the island
It is dog walking heaven, many walks direct from the apartment, to the bay, to The Needles, walks up the river Yar to Yarmouth and back down the other side. Apartment ideal for two and dogs, with enclosed safe garden. Lovely host who left us to it which was ideal but guided us to walks and fishing spots.
Calm, quiet and comfortable
This apartment/bungalow was perfect for my husband and I, just what we had been looking for. It was good to meet Barney and Chris, they were very welcoming and then left us to get on with doing nothing for a week! Great spot for walking or going off in the car. Will definitely return.
It is a 5-10 minute walk to Freshwater Bay beach, a combination of pebbles, sand and rockpools with crabs and small fish which has kept generations of small children amused. Compton Bay is the Island's surf beach and is about 5 minutes by car. Big surf is rare in the summer months but there is lots of sand at low tide on this long unspoilt beach. More sheltered and busier is another sandy beach, Colwell Bay, which is about 10 minutes by car.
There are ferries to the Isle of Wight from Portsmouth, Southampton and Lymington. The easiest route is on the Wightlink ferry from Lymington Pier to Yarmouth. The ferries run from here every 40 minutes in high season and trains run right into the ferry port. A taxi from Yarmouth is only a few pounds.
The cheapest car crossing is usually with Red Funnel Ferries from Southampton to East Cowes, which is about a half hour drive to the apartment.
Freshwater Bay is a 5-10 minute walk and the village and shops are a similar distance.
Within a mile of the Studio Apartment there are recognised areas for walking, cycling, mountain biking, swimming, snorkling, diving, fishing, surfing, sailing, windsurfing, paragliding, kite surfing, golf, horse riding and bird watching.

The West Wight is well known for its numerous footpaths and bridleways and has an annual Walking Festival every spring and the Cycling Festival in the Autumn. From the Studio Apartment the cliff tops are only minutes away with walks over Tennyson Down to the Needles or along the River Yar to Yarmouth.
