About Michelle Lannoo

I came to Vieques 24 years ago and fell in love with the local people, culture, and island living and still to this day, I consider myself to be one of the luckiest people in the world to have found my true home in VIeques. On the island, I also met my husband Juan who is a local VIequense Artist and actually grew up here throughout his youth and now we have a son, Leonardo, who is doing the same. Have been in the hospitality industry for most of my life so am very good at taking care of my guests and trying to cater to their needs and also with mine and my husband's love for the island, we can set you off to either see all the beautiful sites and beaches or if you are adventurous, we can direct you on your own adventure hiking, kayaking. or just exploring off the beaten track.

Look forward to meeting you on vacation.

Why Michelle Lannoo chose Vieques

What makes this house unique

Casa Esperanza's 2 biggest attributes are its location which is walkable to beaches, restaurants, stores, bars, and gift shops so a car is a benefit, but you can also spend some of your time on foot or bike and only rent a vehicle for part of your vacation to save some money and actually enjoy the outdoors and experience the local area.

The other highlight of Casa Esperanza is the private covered back patio which offers an outside area and tropical garden almost as big as the common area in the house, to relax, enjoy, cook. eat, drink and hear the beautiful sounds of the nature. Can be used during the day or even at night since there is outdoor lighting.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Michelle was great. Picked us up from the airport. Was friendly, informed and helpful. The house is quite spacious with a big open kitchen. Large backyard. Good AC units in the bedrooms. Guests should be aware that there is significant noise created by the night creatures outside and the roosters. The location is great. Short walk from the bars, beaches, and restaurants of Esperanza.

It really is our little piece of paradise

  • 5 of 5

The house are spacious, comfortable and we found it to be very well equipped with separate bedrooms, living room and a kitchen. We loved the bright colors and beautiful design with attention to details. This is a very comfortable place where you feel at home and dream of ever coming back.

The house is conveniently located close to the waterfront.

Special thanks to Michelle for kindness, professionalism, willingness to help.

I fell in love with her tropical garden - it's gorgeous!

What a gem. Felt right at home!

  • 5 of 5

Our time at this cozy island house was wonderful. I reached out to Michelle very last minute in an attempt to book this home for 2 days. She got back to me in a very timely manner and was very willing to help us with anything we needed. We arrived in Vieques in the morning and after a few attempts at getting a taxi I reached out to Michelle and she agreed to pick is up for a very fair price in comparison to the taxis. We had agreed to rent a vehicle from her and seeing as we had so much supplies she rented us out a larger vehicle for the already agreed upon price. We reached the house and it felt just like a home away from home, very clean and decorated beautifully with some paintings done by her husband a local artist. Michelle was very attentive and made sure we were doing well throughout our stay. We left feeling like we had made a new friend on the beautiful island of Vieques. When we return we will definitely reach out to Michelle again and continue to rent from her!

Beautiful Little Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, and our four teenagers, stayed in Casa Esperanza for five days in June. The house was lovely. The layout --- open main area and two bedrooms and a bathroom --- were conducive to group living and hanging out. (I loved the concrete kitchen counters and the island!) The art work, throw pillows and rugs, movies, books, little tables, etc, all made for an attractive, cozy space.

During the day, the little outside pavilion was breezy and cool, perfect for spending hours reading. The hammock, in the little driveway, was equally lovely. The flowers and plants were lush.

We spent our week exploring the island by day, sleeping in (the children did, anyway -- the roosters were too loud for this light sleeper!) and relaxing, watching movies, and reading. Favorite spots: exploring the sugar cane ruins (read up about it first --- there's an excellent youtube tour we found after the fact), snorkeling out along Mosquito Pier (go UNDER the piers) Playa Negra, Playa Caracas (red beach). We weren't successful in finding coral and then locals told us that Maria wiped out/damaged it. It is just beginning to come back now.

We brought in our own food and supplemented from the grocery store in Isabel Segunda and the little colmados. A couple things to improve upon: the blender lid was brittle and cracked (flaking off) so we pressed a regular tuperware lid on top when blending drinks. The cheese grater was plastic and flimsy, so we used a knife instead. There were only two wash clothes for the six of us, and only two dishtowels. I'm sure I could've asked Michelle about these things and she would've fixed them --- when we inquired about laundry detergent, she immediately brought some for us, and when we asked about blankets for the children's beds, she brought over a couple throw blankets --- but we just made-do and it was fine. (The internet was spotty --- we brought our own hotspot but Verizon didn't work there --- and the firestick appeared broken. We didn't address the problems, though. There was plenty of other stuff to do!)

(Two things to note: the driveway for off-street parking has a very steep incline and our minivan scraped violently every time we passed over it. We took to parking on the street during the day and only bringing it in at night. Also, after my husband and daughter got zapped from both the indoor and outdoor showers, we unplugged the hot water.)

We had a lovely time at Casa Esperanza and highly recommend it!!!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the review and glad you enjoyed your stay. Just a few things I would like to clarify for future guests. 1. The wifi access in the house is great and have never had a problem with any guests, however, since they brought their own system, it was causing the signal to get scrambled and not work properly since as soon as they unplugged it and left the signal went back to its normal capacity. 2. As far as blankets, there are comforters on each bed and in the 10 years I have been renting out houses in the Caribbean, I have never been asked for a blanket-most people would just turn down the AC. 3. With the kitchen towels, washclothes, and kitchen supplies-all they needed to do was ask, as they noted and I would have provided what ever supplies were low or needed to be changed. 4. And last the driveway issue, after Hurricane Maria and following floods the driveway was made a little steeper, however, we will be laying more cement this week to take care of this issue.

Wonderful house in Vieques

  • 5 of 5

Perfect location with everything you need for a great Vieques vacation. This house has a comfortable layout and beautiful grounds. We loved having the outdoor shower after a day at the beach. The Malecon is an easy walk (Lazy Jack's is less than 5 minute walk). Others have mentioned not sleeping well with the night time sounds but we loved it. The chirping coqui, the roosters and the falling mangos had us sleeping like babies. Michelle's suggestions for places to eat and things to do were right on. We can't wait to come back next year. Book this place now, its perfect!

Island paradise!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I rented this tropical paradise from Michelle from 12-21 June 2017 and LOVED our stay!! This is really an all inclusive type vacation rental especially with the opportunity to rent a vehicle along with the house from Michelle. Everything you need is at the house including fresh mangos and even coconuts at most all of the beaches. Beach chairs and a cooler are provided and the BBq area with grill is awesome! (just make sure to spray down with bug spray as you tour the area around the house unless you like feeding mosquitos!!).

Beaches are EVERYWHERE and are gorgeous! we really enjoyed Playa Negro (black beach) and our favorite at the US Fish& Wildlife area, Orchid Beach and Blue Beach!!!

We loaded up on groceries and cooked our meals and visited the bakeries near the house and the one near the ferry (in Isabell) for fresh bread almost daily!

The AC was nice to have in the evenings, fans also help to circulate the air. Michelle cautioned us on the power outage that occurred atleast once but it was while we were exploring the beach so did not affect us. Michelle picked us up and dropped us off at the airport for $5 each person. We loved our island stay and was by far one of the BEST island trips EVER! I highly recommend!!!!

Vieques Escape

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I have been vacationing in Vieques about every 4 to 5 months for the past several years. On previous trips, we always stayed at a wonderful hotel in Isabel. This trip we wanted to try something different. Casa Esperanza exceeded our expectations. The house is cozy and clean and offers all the amenities of home. We cooked several meals "at home" and re-heated leftovers from the previous night. We were able to access WiFi and communicate with family or work, as needed. It is a short three minute walk to Esperanza and the many restaurants and the Malecon. Sunsets at El Blok and Duffy's are among our favorites. The grocery store and family-run bakery around the corner offer everything you need. We would definitely consider Casa Esperanza for future trips.
