Best Location, Caribbean views, Off street parking, walk everywhere.
Sophisticated, edited--exactly what you want! Casa Sara is a second family home we share when we’re not in the Caribbean. Not a typical VRBO rental. Original art by the owner and other artists, Casa Sara has three spacious BR’s. One full bath upstairs, a full tiled bath with grab bar and seat downstairs. A large, open well-appointed kitchen and dining area ideal for family gatherings, as is the spacious art-filled living room. Perfect for working remotely. Colmado Lydia, a short walk, has all the basics for preparing meals and other needs.
The original builders knew the island and planned to capture the trade winds. Casa Sara stays cool during the day. A constant breeze cools the house just about 4pm as you come back from the beach; a perfect time to enjoy refreshments on the second floor veranda as you watch the sun set into the Caribbean. Casa Sara is in a residential neighborhood with a mix of local and part-time residents.
You do not need a car at Casa Sara. With a grocery store up the street. Casa Sara is steps from the Malecon and its variety of restaurants. Numerous dining choices, with gourmet to casual menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner, all with the island dress code...beachwear! There is a small museum and many shops. Walk to El Bloc, Sun Bay, and other beaches.
Taxis and publicos are available for trips to other beaches and to Isabella Segunda on the other side of the island, with more shopping, restaurants and markets. You can rent a vehicle to explore all that the island offers, including beaches within the wildlife refuge. Casa Sara has private parking behind a gate.
Horses, roosters, iguanas, cats and dogs freely roam the island and its neighborhoods. See an iguana in the palm tree out front and greet the beautiful horses coming down the street. It is all part of the charm of Vieques, and it is why we love Casa Sara, and Esperanza.

Balcony was great - saw some new birds for my life list - the Antillean Crested Hummingbird was feeding on the flowers in all it's mohawked awesomeness! Whole place had a fun low key boho feel. Loved the horses wandering by.

I’d love to have Amy back again- a perfect guest who really “got “ Casa Sara
The location was great, a quick walk to great restaurants, grocery around the corner, but also just off the Main Street. The house was rustic but clean.

David and and family were great Would love to have them back at Casa Sara. However, it is much more than "rustic but clean" Clean is the least of it I would say, with two original art collections, teak furniture to match, many thousands of dollars on interior and exterior paint, new landscape front and back. "Chic but not Snob" would be a more succinct description. I aim for minimal.
The house worked great for our family. We made breakfast at home and we beached all day, then we walked to the Malecon for dinner. The house was well stocked with everything we needed for spending days at the beach and the beds were very comfortable for getting a good nights sleep.

A bit run down-? I just spent $20,000 on it. Maybe guest does not get the look of faux marbled floor and Venetian plastered walls, all hung w original Art. The look is very sophisticated,
We loved the house and felt very relaxed and comfortable. Our teen, especially, enjoyed sitting on the balcony and people watching both day and night. We walked to two beaches in one day! We even snorkeled off of Esperanza waterfront. We frequented all the restaurants on the strip whenever we didn't feel like cooking. Groceries, taxis and bio tours just a short fun walk away.

I hope this lovely family will come back to Casa Sara again. The perfect guests, and my neighbors liked them too !
Casa Sara is the perfect location in Esperanza and it is an easy walk to the malecón as well as a food store that is right around the corner. Wilma was an excellent host and easy to get a hold of. Check-in was easy. House looks as shown in the pictures. Thank you Wilma!
We’d definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a convenient getaway. Wilma was incredibly thoughtful and went out of her way to make our stay fantastic. This charming home was in a perfect location, just a short walk to the town or the beach. The house itself is filled with stunning art and the upstairs rooms were artistically painted. While there is no air conditioning, the breeze through the windows kept is comfortable even on warm days.

What wonderful guests! Talking with them before they arrived I knew they would like the convenient walking location, the Trade Winds, the horses, and my Art collection-a museum of me, some friends work, some Caribbean Folk Art. I loved that they liked the Art, as well!
We stayed four nights at Casa Sara and had an amazing time. Wilma was very responsive and the check in process was super easy. Plenty of room for our family of four. Saved some money being able to cook about half of our meals there at the house. A short walk to the Malecón, Coconut Beach, and Black Sand Beach. We rented a small SUV and the gated parking spot was tight, but worked great. Overall, I would certainly recommend this rental for your stay in Vieques!

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
Disliked: Cleanliness
I would like to premise this review by noting that Wilma is very kind, communicative and helpful. We had to unexpectedly move our trip from March to July to due health issues and she graciously refunded half of the trip when she wasn’t required to. The house is very conveniently located in Esperanza and has a nice fenced yard. That said, we expected rustic, as mentioned in other reviews, but we experienced a few things that led us to book an other house within a three hours of arriving. The house wasn’t very clean and was far more worn/aged than expected. The bed linens in all three bed rooms, and the day bed blanket were stained. The gas tanks outside for the stove were empty. The toilet in the upstairs bathroom is elevated- much more so that the picture shows- making it difficult for an adult to use it, let alone our two children. There were ants in the downstairs bathroom (floor and walls). The final straw was the mosquitoes inside the house. Many of the screens do not fit properly so there are large gaps at all four corners allowing mosquitoes inside the house. We booked another house for the same price that was amazing (3 beds/2 baths, beachfront, very clean, updated, AC, a pool) so the cost/value was shocking after arriving at the other rental. Unfortunately, this house wasn’t for us and we lost a few thousand dollars in the process. I hope this is informative for others when considering this house to set expectations.

Christina and her family seemed to be lovely people, based on conversation I had wuth them both before and during their visit to casa Sara. I know Casa sara has the best location in REsperasnza, steps grom Malecon and all attractions, etc. I called the next dat to see how the Esperanzas water problem wass resolving,But was shocked to hear it was a mosquito alergy! All my sheets are new Garnet Hill, and I heardf no complaints about them during our next day conversation. My cleaning team is tops, I am a host with 30 years of successful experience on Viequers so would never have an Art filled house improperly cleaned! I wish all well and hope they enjoyed their vacatyion. Wilma J. P de P
Central location in Esperanza. The property is rustic.
The host was very accessible and worked hard to address our concerns.
The yard needs regular maintenance to manage all the animal droppings, etc. the interior needs a good overall “spring” cleaning and then maintained.
Three comfortable bedrooms and two full baths. Spacious living room and kitchen/dining area. Comfortable safe neighborhood with friendly neighbors. An easy walk to the local market and the Malacon with a variety of good restaurants. Beautiful Sun Bay Beach is about a half mile walk away along palm tree lined beaches. Wilma, the owner, is always easy to reach at any time if there is an issue but there never has been one. This was our second stay at Casa Sara and we hope it will not be our last. Enjoy.

Thank you so much Edward. You are the best guest and you really "get" what Casa Sara has to offer: spacious rooms, trade winds, Caribbean views, walk everywhere. Hope to see you next time and every time you come to Vieques. Happy February, Wilma
Casa Sara is a real treat—perfectly situated in Esperanza just beyond the Malecon, walkable (if a healthy trek) to several gorgeous beaches and hikes, and spacious enough for a family. While it hasn’t been updated recently, the house (along with the market a block away) has everything you need for a delightful and affordable stay on this beautiful island. Vieques is not the place for an anodyne vacation; the “animal droppings” (left by the beautiful horses that roam the island free) are part of its charm. A fence keeps everything but the local chickens out of the yard itself. The owner was very solicitous and made our check-in as easy as possible. If you want luxury, then I’d advise finding an alternative—perhaps the resort up the road. But if you are game for rustic-yet-convenient, then I’d highly recommend Casa Sara!

Thank you Susan. Yes we are very well stocked and ready for a family vacation. I too love all the horses that roam free on Vieques, but do like to keep the parking gate shut and that is why we have a fence. I prefer the look of no fencing at all, but hey, some need to hang their beach towels in a horse free backyard!
