About mary kaye dorn

Our family purchased the Farm House in 1992 along with 180 acres. The 180 acres connects with the remainder of our dairy/crop farm. We milk a herd of Guernsey cows. Our farm is totally family operated. Until 2006 the barn was used yet for milking yet but at that time our son moved out of the farmhouse and we converted it into a vacation house to share especially with city folks who don't get the opportunity to enjoy the countryside. We also wanted families to understand our farming life style. We moved to New Glarus in 1980 when we originally brought our herd of cows to our original farm of 350 acres. Since then we were able to add acreage from this property as well as some other adjoining acreage so our farm totals 700 acres. We have raised 7 children on the farm who are now all grown. Several of them are still involved on the farm in different capacities. We enjoy getting to know our guests and sharing our farming background with them.

Lovely Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to get away from the city, so we were looking for something remote, but with close access to a little downtown area, and somewhere we could bring our dog. This farmhouse was the perfect option. The house itself has been restored but the owner's kept so much of the original that they could. In the morning we could hear the birds, and in the evening it was so peaceful and quiet. We had day trips planned but we didn't want to leave once we were there. It was so close to downtown New Glarus, but far enough away to feel like the perfect retreat. We were able to check out the farm and the baby cows, which was so wonderful to see! I am already looking forward to visiting this farmhouse again in the future!

Beautiful, Tranquil, and Felt Like Home

  • 5 of 5

We loved our family winter getaway weekend. We traveled with 6 adults and three small children. The owner was so welcoming and wonderful and we felt right at home. Communication was so easy. Mary Kaye felt like a family friend. We loved hearing her tell about the history of the property and were so grateful for the yummy homemade banana bread. The home was clean and spacious and fit our needs perfectly. Our children loved the farm themed playroom. What an awesome bonus! During our stay we explored the grounds with snow shoes, xc skis, and sleds. The kids loved the tire swings as well. Downtown New Glarus and the brewery are a short drive away as well as a state park. This was the perfect location for our family’s winter escape. We look forward to returning next winter!

Rolling hills of the Farm

  • 4 of 5

This was just what I needed, I was able to sleep in a few days and enjoy some solitude. The farmhouse is cool, built in the late 1800's you can definitely feel the history of the building. One of my favorite things about my stay was cooking dinner in the old kitchen and enjoying it with some adult beverage and a special Girlfriend. We went on some hikes along country roads and saw how some live in a much less congested world. The town of New Glarus is cool but would not spend more than 2 or 3 days here if you have to be entertained 24/7. The New Glarus brewery was a nice visit and the beer is very good. (not a fan of their beer distribution plan and reasons behind it) The Train Station coffee shop (Fat cat coffee works) and Bakery has a great cup and breakfast, not to be missed. My stay was the first cold snap of 2017 and the old house holds heat very well, little to no draft so don't worry about spending winter in the Farmhouse. The pictures on VRBO need to be updated, some of the out buildings have been removed and they do take away from the flavor of the farm but don't let that stop you from visiting. Overall awesome stay !!

The setting is quiet, terrific. Well thought out for kids. Everything was clean. Most importantly, the owner was amazing to work with. New Glarus is fun to walk around too.
