About the property

Spacious and cosy stone cottage, sleeps 4 + baby

Camnacar cottage is a converted stable on an organic smallholding. Chickens and ducks share the enclosed garden with a stream running through it. Conveniently located in the centre of the village, the post office and an award winning village shop are just across the street.

The cottage is both spacious, warm and comfortable with stripped pine floors downstairs and a wood burner in the large sitting room. The upstairs rooms have views to the hills beyond the village. Down filled duvets and firm mattresses ensure you will sleep well in this peaceful spot.

The kitchen is well appointed with dish washer, microwave and washing machine as well as wifi if you need to keep in touch. There is plenty of information about the local area and also books, DVDs and games for evenings at home.

The newly fitted bathroom has a power shower over the bath, there is another toilet downstairs.

The situation: Camnacar Cottage is set in a beautiful enclosed garden with plenty of space to explore (about 2 acres) A stream runs through the garden from which we will generate hydroelectricity. There are also a couple of duck ponds and you can enjoy walking around the garden and then on up the hill. We grow vegetables so home produce is available and we can provide meals if you tell us in advance. Babysitting can also be arranged.

The cottage is spacious for 4 or 5 with a baby. A large sitting room with a wood burning stove as well as a table for dining or there is one in the kitchen if you prefer. We provide fruit, bread, milk and other basics for when you arrive but Kirkmichael Village Shop (community run) is very close, and has pretty much everything you need. The cottage is warm and all the rooms have adjustable central heating and the beds are all comfortable. The kitchen has all the usual equipment such as washing machine, dish washer, microwave, fridge freezer and wifi is available.

The surrounding area: The village of Kirkmichael has a general store and post office as well as the Strathardle Inn, The Kirkmichael Hotel and the Log Cabin Hotel, which all provide food and comfortable fire side chat. Over the bridge there are a good variety of walks in all directions and many more up and down the Ardle valley. There are also good tracks for cyclists (as long as you don't mind a few hills...) Nearby mountains include gorgeous views from Beinn Vrackie, Beinn a'Ghlo the munro and famous and ancient Schiehallion. Wildlife abounds, we regularly see deer on the hills round about and red squirrels often play in the garden. Our own animals include chickens and ducks, children are welcome to help at feeding time.

Things to do: Activities such as rock climbing, mountain biking and mountaineering are all popular. For those fond of whiskey, the charming family run Edradour distillery is the oldest in Scotland, also Dalwhinney and Dewars distilleries are close by. Relax at a number of health farms in the area such as the Lavendar Spa in Pitlochry . Horse riding can be arranged at Glenmarkie, a beautiful area to explore. Try a visit to the Glenshee Pottery for local crafts or paint a pot with children on a wet day. Shop at the popular House of Bruar with the impressive Falls of Bruar behind. Snow sports such as skiing and snowboarding is easily accessed from the Cairnwell ski centre. Golf courses are also plentiful.

About Hannah Goodman

Hannah and Miles came to the area in 2007 when Polly was 2 and Sebastian was just a few months old. We were attracted by the beautiful countryside, the potential to create a small holding whilst living in a village with all the amenities. Our children go to the village school so they have their friends all around.

Hannah Goodman purchased this cottage in 2007

Why Hannah Goodman chose Perth and Kinross

We like the solid stone buildings set in beautiful and interesting countryside.

What makes this cottage unique

We love being right in the village with all the amenities on hand but at the same time we can open the door and run into the hills and be away from it all. The air is so fresh and pure here. Our water supply is from a natural spring which is delicious.

Beyond expectations

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely love it! Thank you so much Hannah for the lovely bread and jam.

It is located in a quiet village. There is a small (but great) store to buy a few groceries and have a coffee or cake. So peaceful and quiet. We are glad we took our wellingtons and walk around in the fields. Highly recommend!!!!!

The cottage had everything we need it! Thank you so much for making us feel at home!

We had a lovely time in Kirkmichael. Hannah and Miles were very kind. The welcome basket was very much appreciated. The village was quaint filled with friendly people and great food. A perfect spot to head from for day tours and for staying in for rest days.

Wonderful cottage in a quaint setting

  • 4 of 5

The cottage has everything you need, including Wi-Fi. The kitchen had everything we needed. The only complaint is the village doesn't have a lot of places to eat if you don't feel like cooking.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the feedback. It is interesting that you mention the eating, we have always considered ourselves lucky that in such a small village we have the shop cafe and 2 hotels to choose from. Glad you enjoyed your time here!

Secluded in the middle of the village

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful little cottage in a really peaceful setting . The cottage was well equipped and really warm. Everything was provided, even the friendly cat.

We had gone for the skiing on Glen Shee which was in easy driving distance. Wonderful to come back to a nice warm cottage.

Beds were extremely comfortable and the only noise was the chickens in the morning . Lots of walks around the cottage and around the village. People were very friendly and on our last night we ate at the local hotel . Very welcoming and helpful .

Hopefully will be able to make a return visit in the future.

Warm and cozy

  • 5 of 5

The cottage has very good location. A lot of walks just few steps from the property. Many routes for hiking, cycling are 20-30 min.driving away. And more further up. We didn't use the local shop as we had days out most of the time. We enjoyed the log burner, so warm and nice to be near by.

Thank you for Hannah and her family for a warm stay and welkome basket. Really oppreciate that. Nice surrounding as well. You re a great family. Best wishes to you.

Camnacar is a traditional stone cottage in Scotland, in the charming village of Kirkmichael, close to Pitlochry and at the heart of the stunning Strathardle valley. It is within easy distance of magnificent Blair Castle and Balmoral Castle, the Edradour Distillery, and many other attractions and places of interest. Both Glasgow and Edinburgh can be visited on a day trip and we are on the doorstep of the famous Cairngorm National Park. The ski centre at Glenshee is popular once the snow arrives and throughout the winter. Special summer attractions include the Royal Highland Games at Braemar and other highland games, and of course the blooming of the heather. There are beautiful walks in all directions (including the famous Cateran Trail), trout and salmon fishing nearby, and golf courses aplenty.

Nature such as red squirrels and deer can be seen in the area.

Other Activities: hunting, shooting, sight seeing

Golf: Several golf courses are nearby, Rosemount in Blairgowrie (11 miles away) has champion courses and there are also fine courses at both Pitlochry (12miles) and Blair Atholl (16miles)

The famous courses at St.Andrews are also within easy distance.

All welcome visitors, although booking may be required.

Ski: Glenshee ski centre has the UK's most extensive skiing and snowboarding facilities. There are 21 lifts and 36 runs across a very fine mountain range with a variety of pistes of varying difficulties. Car parking is conveniently placed and there is equipment for all ages for hire. Group and private classes can be booked. Cafes and bars are open for food and refreshments.
