Loved this place! It was very clean and the location was perfect for what I needed. The host was very friendly and accommodating. I would absolutely stay here again and don't think you can find better for the price.
My husband and I stayed for two weeks. We were so impressed how well this house was clean, equipped with all household items, and nicely decorated. We felt like staying at home of relatives or friends. Location was quiet, on the outskirts of Kanab but still convenient to everything. We liked eating on the front porch and look at the Kaibab plateau. Also Cottonwood trailhead was within walking distance. We hope to be back soon.
We all felt like we were staying at our mom’s home. Clean, comfortable, kitchen was well stocked with everything needed to make meals. Quiet neighborhood, close to town.
We LOVED our stay at mom’s place.
Close to Bryce Canyon and local hiking trails and close to town. Kanab is an awesome town!
I loved the house. Everything was so clean and organized. This was the nicest VRBO I have ever stayed in. The owner has thoughtfully provided many special touches that enhance the charm and comfort of the rental. In addition to an abundance of nice towels and linens, there are cooking utensils, kitchen appliances, dinnerware, extra paper towels, a large assortment of spices, coffee and filters, laundry detergent and dryer sheets, extra trash bags, etc., etc. just to name a few of the items provided. It is a very peaceful setting. I enjoyed having a meal one night on the front porch. I stayed for eight nights and was sad to leave. It did not feel like a rental property. It felt like I was a welcome guest in the home of a friend or relative. I hope to be able to return again next year.
We loved this house and location! The house was lovely, the beds were very comfortable, and the location was great! We loved being greeted by beautiful red cliffs every time we left the neighborhood to begin our next adventure. We would stay here again without a moment of hesitation!
Beautiful home in a quiet neighborhood not too far from town. The home is very clean and well stocked. Joan will help you with anything that you need and can offer insights on things to do in the area.
We loved mom's place.
The master bedroom was great with the tub & shower, & private sitting/reading/viewing room.
Joan was quick to respond to our questions.
Thank you!
One of the most comfortable VRBO stays! The house was extremely clean, the beds were comfortable and the house was stocked with everything a guest would need. The location was both quiet and conveniently close to town. If ur looking for a comfortable homey feel, this is the place!
This property is in a very quiet part of town. Everything is easily accessible. It is a huge property fully stocked with coffee and tea. It was very comfortable giving privacy and quiet to both of us. It is a beautiful place to stay.
This place was amazing. I've stayed at a lot of VRBOs but this was the best. 5 Minutes to town. Peaceful location, saw a deer next door and 3 chickens came to visit. Cleanliness was above and beyond. Everything you want was there. We played games on the front porch and had a ball. Would recommend this house to anyone. Thanks Joan
Love the house and what the host does to make it so nice to visit. Lots of space and amenities the decor is thoughtful and eclectic. The neighborhood is quiet and walkable if you like an evening stroll like us. Sitting on the porch and listening to the birds in all the mature trees or stargazing at night is so relaxing. Convenient short drive to town center. Definitely would stay there again. Mom would be proud.
Everything was made very easy for us from beginning of our stay until checkout. We had everything we needed, it felt like we had all the comforts and necessities of home, down to the spices we needed to cook. We had a chance to meet Joan, the owner, she was absolutely delightful! This was by far one of the best rentals we have had the pleasure of staying. Thanks for everything Joan!!!
Very nice property that has everything that you could ever want and more. Very homey - not rental like at all. Really clean - lovely art work - was really perfect. Wish we could have stayed longer. If I ever come back I’d love to stay here again.
Past property reviews of 5 Stars are well warranted. The host was very communicative. The property was exceptionally well kept, spacious, well stocked, quiet, and clean. An eclectic collection of books are available for reading or perusal. It's a perfect place for older couples and we would easily stay here again. if you wish to avoid the busier Springdale area then Kanab may work for you. Kanab is a small town with restaurants, grocery stores, basic amenities, small sites and trails to experience on their own. Zion and Bryce Canyon are easy drives, plus you can experience the magnificent Mt. Carmel east entrance to Zion. We got up at 5:00 AM for both parks and it was well worth the effort for scenery and smaller crowds. We even found parking at Zion's Visitor Center. The locals were exceedingly friendly and helpful.
This was the second time my husband and I stayed at Mom’s Place and it continues to be outstanding! It is such a pleasant and welcoming house, arriving there felt like coming home. It is quiet and very clean. With two bedrooms, a kitchen and large dining/living room, there is plenty of space. The two bathrooms are also a plus, especially if two couples are staying. Joan provides everything you could want to make your stay a pleasure, from coffee and basic condiments to extra towels. She responds promptly to any question and is just next door should any issue arise. I strongly recommend Mom’s Place as the perfect base for exploring the magnificent scenery around Kanab.
We enjoyed everything about our visit! House was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed and more. Will definitely love to stay again when we come back to the area.
If I could give it extra stars for cleanliness, I would. This house is extremely well taken care of and is fully stocked with everything you need. This was our second time staying here and I'd recommend it to anyone.
This house was amazing, it literally felt like we were at home. Joan was super responsive and a great host. The house was clean and stocked with everything you needed. She had an entire counter of things to do in the area, it was like a mini visitor center. Loved sitting on the porch in the morning and the lot was a corner lot which made it private. The location for Kanab is just a couple of miles. We stayed in 4 VRBOs in our trip to all the parks and this was our favorite, highly recommend.

About the host
Hosted by Joan A. Thacher
I have lived in the area since 1978 but am originally from Oakland, California. I instantly fell in love with Southern Utah! The landscape is like nowhere on earth and the sky is so blue you'll wonder if it's real! I love the outdoors and always have. I love gardening, hiking, walking the dogs and rockhounding. If you're a rockhound this is the place for you! My husband and I love riding our motorcycle through Zion National Park! I worked for many years in drug and alcohol prevention education and now am part-owner in the local pet store. We'd love to have you stay at Mom's and we can guide you to all the out-of-the-way places nearby.
Why they chose this property
Mom's Place is actually that - my Mom's House. She moved next door to us from Walnut Creek, CA in 2006 after my Dad died. She moved all her lovely furniture and belongings into this charming single story home. We were very lucky to have her here for ten years before she passed away last year. Kanab is a much safer place to live than California!
What makes this property unique
You'll love the layout of the home. First, everything is wheelchair accessible. The livingroom/diningroom is light and spacious. The master bedroom has a "retreat" room which we use as a TV/sitting area. You can sit on the front porch and enjoy the quiet with views of the Vermillion cliffs.
