About Patsy and Larry Vail or Erik Vail

We bought a home and fledgling photography business in 1991.. we packed up our 2 teenage boys and all our worldly goods and moved from Eastern Washington to Whidbey Island where, for the next 20 years, we ran a portrait photography business out of our home.

In 2011, we retired from photography to open a little Washington wine shop and tasting room in the Magical little Seaside town of Coupeville!! January of 2014 we moved our little shop into a much bigger and better location.. across the street.. on the waterside.. with twice the space and a beautiful outdoor patio! In 2015, we bought the 5000 square foot building our wine shop lives in AND we sold our home and moved ourselves into one of the two beautiful upstairs apartments in our building. We renovated the other apartment and are excited to begin sharing it with family and friends and with YOU - our new friends!! Our oldest son and partner continued on in the photography industry and is the one helping us to manage our beautiful new vacation rental - Vail's View!

Patsy and Larry Vail or Erik Vail purchased this apartment in 2015

Why Patsy and Larry Vail or Erik Vail chose Coupeville

After running our wine shop in Coupeville for 2 years, meeting the other business owners and residents, the many and diverse visitors... we realized we "fit" in this charming, diverse, and very accepting community of people.. We started looking for a way to live here and we found one! We bought a beautiful, historic building on the waterfront side of downtown Coupeville and we can't wait to share it with you!!

Great location. Beautiful view of water from living room.

Nice, bright and clean. Cute little kitchen nook has all the basics. Only constructive criticism is that there is no deadbolt. Would absolutely stay here again.

Exactly as described!

Exactly as described! Great views. Very comfortable space with nice breezes flowing thru the unit. Hosts were great. Not invasive whatsoever, but answered all our questions about the town's patio seating. We loved it. Thank you!

Perfect place for our wedding weekend!

  • 5 of 5

My now-husband and I stayed here last weekend during our wedding weekend! We got married along the water by the Island County Historical Society and Patsy and Larry's place was the perfect spot for us to spend the weekend! We stayed 4 nights from Friday to Tuesday.

The apartment was quite spaciously laid out, with really beautiful decor, comfy couches and chairs, and all sorts of nice touches. Parking was easily found each day on the street, even during the weekend. The kitchen is small, but has all the essentials you'll need. Bathroom is small as well, but has a great shower. The patio is perfect for breakfast with a gorgeous view. We sipped our coffee and ate out there every morning of our trip. Location is close to EVERYTHING (ice cream across the street, woohoo!), as it is right in the heart of downtown Coupeville.

Vail's View also made for a great getting ready space for our wedding and was a perfect walking distance away from the ceremony site and just a block or so away from our reception site at The Oystercatcher restaurant (a must-visit spot!).

The only thing I would note is that it can be kind of noisy in the early mornings. There is a restaurant next door that had daily deliveries around 6:30am each of the 4 mornings we were there (I think one morning there was actually a garbage truck, as well). As this place is on the street side, it made sleeping in a bit tough, especially since we wanted to keep the windows open due to the warm weather. However, most days we were able to go back to sleep after the idling trucks finally departed. Another reviewer also suggested black-out shades, which I think might be a nice addition to the bedroom as it gets very bright, very early!

With the wedding weekend fairly packed, we never made it downstairs to the wine tasting shop, but we wish we had! We will have to stop by on our next visit to town.

We definitely recommend Vail's View and we would gladly and happily stay here again. Thank you Patsy and Larry!

Quaint place with awesome views

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Vail's View. The location was perfect as we could just walk through all the little shops downtown Coupeville and beautiful view of the water. On previous trips to Coupeville parking downtown was terrible but since we were there on a Wednesday through Friday we found parking nearby pretty easily. The apartment was very clean and well-maintained with all the necessary items and was decorated with pretty coastal decor. The keypad lock on the door was kind of a pain and was temperamental even though we followed the directions to a tee. The apartment comfortably slept 4 but could accommodate up to 5. I was a bit disappointed that the base price was for only 2 people and we had to pay an extra $60 per night for the 3 kids. I understand having extra sheets and towels to wash but $60 per night seems excessive. The owners were very pleasant and readily available if we needed anything. Overall it was a great stay and I'd recommend Vail's View to others.
