About Jo Reese
I fell in love with this property the first time I saw it. I knew it was not only my "forever place", but knew it would make a great retreat for others. So I over the course of 3 years, I restored original douglas fir hardwood floors, totally remodeled the kitchen with granite counter tops & tile floors, added a large deck & hot tub, painted every building inside & out, planted lots of trees & flowers & added brand new furnishings, including custom-made leather couches & hand knotted imported rugs throughout home. The original home was built in the early 1900's & was added onto in the 80's, 90's & 2013. This property was originally a cattle ranch. This ranch is currently a working ranch with cows & chickens. (We take our cows to open range during the summer season.) My favorite part of this property is the meadowlands behind house; it makes me feel like I entered into another world, completely private and natural.
Jo Reese purchased this House in 2012
Why Jo Reese chose Buena Vista
This house is not only represents a piece of Buena Vista history, but it was updated with the best & most comfortable amenities available. We want you to enjoy as many comforts of home as possible. If we don't have it, please let us know what you would like to enjoy next time. The coolest thing about this property is that it is actually the greenest, lushest place in the area with 5 creeks that run through the land. The grasses get super tall & vibrant, while the wildlife abounds. You would think you were in the woods, but you're really close to town.
What makes this House unique
There's a real tipi surrounded by huge cottonwood trees to enjoy . On a hot day, feel free to take a dip in any creek. Roast marshmallows at one of our camp fire pits, as long as there are no fire restrictions. Enjoy many local birds at our feeders. You can actually watch annual Forth of July fireworks show from front yard. We currently have a pair of horned owls, a duck family as well as lots of deer, raccoons, squirrels & many surprise visitors.

This was a perfect vacation home for our family group of 6 adults and 6 children!
Our family had a delightful week in the Buena Vista area, in large part because of this home. There was plenty of room for our large group of 6 adults and 6 children to spread out. We could all be together at the dining table to eat dinner or the outdoor table to play games in the evening. There was alot of outdoor space to find a quiet corner to drink coffee and watch the hummingbirds or read a book or just 'think'. The kitchen was well used by our group. We ate breakfast in every morning and packed lunches to head out for each day's adventures. We cooked at 'home' most evenings. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans, dishes and silverware. It was a pleasant surprise to find a spice rack filled with spices and a surplus of dinnerware and flatware. So many rentals have one per person! The outdoor space was a delightful surprise. Our first day we explored the property and found the tipi. There was a covered area off the house that could have been used in case of rain. The hot tub was a big hit and was used a couple times a day the first several days. Although this home was on the edge of town, it felt like we were in the country. The parking area accommodated the motorhome that some of us arrived in, plus several vehicles. In addition, and very importantly, the caretakers were very responsive when we contacted them about things like 'we might need more paper towels or dishwashing detergent'.
The only negatives are that there is no garbage disposal because of the sewer system and the dishwasher was broken during the week that we were there. I'm sure that it has since been replaced. I was a little concerned that 2 1/2 baths might get crowded with the size of our group, but it seemed to work.
Jo, the owner, has also been responsive and answered questions prior to our visit very thoroughly. Overall, we were 'over the top' happy with our choice of this property and would rebook it in a heartbeat!
Thank you for taking the time to type this review. This helps us in so many ways. We strive to provide the best possible experience for our guests.
I felt so bad when our dishwasher decided to not cooperate for your visit. We've scheduled a new one to be installed.
Mountain living usually does involve septic systems. I've had one for so long, it has become my "new normal". I totally remember that convenience of being able to squish food items down that hole. Now I save my scraps for the chickens & the composting pile, since we run a sustainable, working ranch. I'm currently working on creating an easy-to-use place for guests to set certain food items aside for this purpose. We're also working on making our recycling collection container more user friendly. We're on a journey discovering new ways to leave a smaller footprint & being more eco-friendly.
We're always open to suggestions. We want to evolve and improve in as many ways as possible every season.
Thanks again for coming. Please keep us in mind for future vacations.
Awesome House close to town with plenty of room.
Really fun place to stay. Plenty of room to spread out. Owner is very attentive to issues that might arise. Lots of room to run around. Saw a lot of wildlife. Had fun hanging out on the back deck with friends and family.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review for us. We would love to have you guys back again someday. Please let us know if there is anything that we could do to improve upon providing the best possible guest experience.
We're currently working on a new place further from town. It's surrounded by many miles of forest lands, with even more wildlife. We're hoping to be listed soon.
We loved it - we had 3 couples and their kids, and had plenty of room for everyone. The kids loved playing in the stream and we all had a great time hanging out on the deck with the hot tub. The owner and property managers were great hosts and very responsive. The location is minutes from all there is to do in Buena Vista but once you’re there, it feels like you are far away from everything. We hope to stay again!
Will Stay Again!
Vastly exceeded our groups expectations! We couldn't have been happier with our experience.
Thank you for taking the time to review my house. I truly want every guest to feel at home as much as I do when I'm living there. We, at Cottonwood Spirit Ranch, welcome all feedback. Please come see us again.
A Memorable Stay Here
Our extended family stayed here over Christmas and we had a wonderful time. The property is beautiful looking off the back deck. We would like to visit again in the summer to explore more. The kids would love it I am sure. The house is an older house that has been updated and well maintained. The kitchen was VERY well supplied, lots of pots and pans and lots of spices which is unusual and much appreciated. It had everything we needed. The owner left us a dozen fresh eggs , a special touch.
The hot tub on the back deck was wonderful in the cold weather. Being the first one up in the mornings I enjoyed sitting in the hot tub overlooking the property. Peaceful.
The location was great, close to town and also a quick trip to Mt. Princeton Hot Springs without going through town.
The owner was very responsive ahead of time. We had to change our reservation by one day and she took care of that for us.
We enjoyed the large dining room table for big meals and playing games.
A memorable stay for us and we hope to do it again. Thanks Jo.
Thank you so much for taking the time to review our home. We would love to have you again. Happy Trails!

Rates & Availability
Additional information about rental rates
Absolutely no one under the age of 25 may rent this property. If it is discovered that there are no adults over the age of 24 present, you may face loss of deposit, or loss of this rental. No pets allowed on property at any time. No smoking or illegal activities allowed. Children must be supervised at all times, especially small ones; we have a lot of water & unpredictable wildlife. All deposits are fully refunded when property has been inspected & no damages have been determined. Dishes must be washed or dishwasher started, all trash must be taken out to receptacle outside of front door, kitchen must be wiped down. Excessive cleaning charges will be deducted from deposit. This does not mean a few crumbs or piles of wet towels; this refers to litter anywhere on property or cleaning tasks above & beyond usual guest use. Guests must shower before using hot tub, especially if you've used sunscreen, bug spray, perfume, temp hair dyes, lotions, etc. These chemicals overwork our spa so much that we have to drain it. If this occurs, there will be a charge. With normal usage, hot tub water will stay clear indefinitely. Funky products turn the water dark & we must remover all water before allowing next guest to use spa. Guests will also be charged if anything turns up missing or is negligently damaged, (a broken drinking glass versus ballpoint pen on furniture). Just please be respectful & use common sense. This home is lived in by owner in between rental seasons.
