We used this property as a base for a team participating nearby. This was a very comfortable and well appointed property with excellent owner communication. It fulfilled our needs perfectly and we would not hesitate to recommend it to others as a venue.
My family of 10 adults rented the whole place out. Communication and restaurant recommendations were fabulous. Highly recommend Longs Arms and Pear Tree for dinner both were charming! Wonderful catered dinner by Nibbled. Rooms were comfortable even though we visited during a hot spell in June and there is no A/C. Fridge was stocked with eggs, milk and pea shoots. They were able to accommodate an early check-in and were extremely flexible as we made good time from London. We spent a day in Bath. We ventured to Broadway and Snowshill which was a long drive and had dinner at Henry's in Cirencester stopping to see the lavender fields which were in full bloom! We didn't get to enjoy the walks in Box, because we were too busy! We were ages 25-88. The adult children loved the Thomas the Tank doorbell. Lovely stay would recommend!

So delighted that you enjoyed your stay Jennie, despite the heatwave! You clearly packed a lot in during your four days. Thank you so much for your kind comments and review and for choosing to stay at Lorne House.
The decor and standard generally were excellent. Two points to bear in mind. For this size property the sole sitting room is on the smaller side, being a B&B the focus is more on the dining area, which is of less value to a group taking over the property as we did. Second note it is on the main A4 London road, though noise is generally not much of an issue given the small size of Box and the thickness of the walls, but its not an idyllic setting per se. Hosts were excellent, and great communication, and the standard throughout was very high. We would definitely return for another long weekend, just to summarise it all in one sentence.

Dear Victor, many thanks for staying at Lorne House, and for your kind comments below..
Victor and his lovely family were perfect guests. All communications before their stay were straightforward and they were charming and delightful to deal with. The house was left tidy, spick and span and we wouldn't hesitate to host them again or to recommend them to other hosts. We hope to see you/family again for a long weekend. Best wishes, Bob and Liz
Everything was easy from booking to leaving. Everyone was genuinely nice and accommodating making for a pleasing atmosphere. Definitely would recommend.
Some specific points:
All 8 bedrooms are good sized doubles with good ensuite bathrooms. Major plus in our eyes as no one was feeling let down.
Kitchen is adequate but limited as only seats 4-6 people. Probably no need to be bigger as most B&B residents will breakfast in the dining room.
We struggled initially with the oven and also the boiling tap which just did not seem to be hot enough for tea (probably health & safety requirements).
Dining room was nice and easily accommodated all 14 of us in a single sitting.
Lounge was adequate but struggled to comfortably accommodate all 14 of us which again was probably due to the fact that it would not usually need to cater for this number of guests.
Overall everything was satisfactory or well above.

Thank you for your review and thoughtful comments. As you noted, the house is a working B&B and neither the kitchen nor sitting room are unfortunately designed for large groups to be in there all together. We do endeavour to make this apparent to whole house parties taking the house. The hot tap delivers slightly under boiling point water but we will also provide a kettle in future for those who'd prefer it. Thanks again for comments and we are delighted that you enjoyed your weekend.

About the host
Hosted by Bob Matthews
Bob and Liz have lived in this area for 20 years having previously lived in Asia and Australia for 12 years. We know this area very well and are always pleased to recommend places of interest, things to do and places to eat.
Why they chose this property
When not let in its entirety on a self catering basis, Lorne House is a fully functioning B&B so all rooms are ensuite with wetrooms or bathrooms, fluffy towels and egyptian cotton bed linen. Our 8 rooms are all beautifully furnished, all have tvs, irons and ironing boards and there is free wifi throughout the house. The dining room is large and light for dinners and functions. The kitchen is fully equipped including a large range style cooker. In nice weather the large verandah at the rear of the house is a perfect afternoon and early evening sun trap.
What makes this property unique
Our wetrooms and bathrooms always impress and one of our rooms has a juliet balcony opening out with views over the Wiltshire countryside. Lorne House was the childhood home of Reverend Awdry, the author of the Thomas the Tank Engine stories ; he claimed that it was living here as a boy and listening to the trains running between the famous Brunel built railway tunnels on the line behind the house that inspired his famous stories.
