The Wheat Shed and The Bothy are two holiday homes situated within the grounds of a working farm just 10 miles from the bustling town of Penrith. The Bothy is a semi-detached bungalow which stands in a delightful garden. The Wheat Shed is a semi-detached barn conversion with four bedrooms, two of which are en-suite. Those with restricted mobility will find the ground floor en-suite wet room and huge benefit. The properties are set on the owner’s working farm with beef, sheep and arable, with a woodland area and an abundance of wildlife including swans, ducks, geese, woodpeckers, deer and much more. Ideal for guests wanting to really explore the local area and beyond, with plenty of attractions within a close radius. Experience the Lake District at its best with every kind of outdoor activity on hand. The properties are a haven away from the stresses and strains of everyday living and are ideal for anyone looking to spend some time amidst the peace and quiet of beautiful scenery. Enjoy sailing on Ullswater or take in the magnificent scenery on a launch trip up the lake. This beautiful region offers something for everyone. Shop 3 miles, pub and restaurant 1½ miles. These properties can be booked together to accommodate up to 12 guests.

The Bothy

Stayed for a long weekend with my husband. Property big enough for a family. Beautifully furnished & equipped with everything you could need. Situated on a working farm in the middle of the countryside. The Bothy caters for a fabulously relaxing holiday/break a stones throw away from Carlisle & Penrith, with lots to explore in the Lake District. The hosts Richard & Alison are lovely & Alison is very helpful with any queries you may have. Would highly recommend.

This is a lovely barn in a great location for exploring the lakes. The views surrounding the property are great. We enjoyed our stay, however, we found the beds to be very uncomfortable so did not sleep well during the stay. It would be lovely to have some lamps/floor lamps in the lounge to soften the atmosphere instead of bright overhead lighting. The hot tub was lovely to return to after a day in the lakes too, but we did feel a little uncomfortable with it being directly overlooked by the barn above. Loved our 4 night stay at The Bothy. Couldn’t fault the property in any way. Well equipped with everything you could possibly need, a home from home feel. The location is very remote and the local amenities are a drive away but that was part of the reason we booked. The hot tub was a perfect way to relax. We thoroughly enjoyed or few days staying at the Bothy. The accommodation is very cosy and comfortable throughout and very well equipped. The wet floor shower room was ideal for my brother who is disabled and further enhanced by Alison being able to provide a shower chair for his use. Alison and Richard were helpful and responsive to any request we made. The icing on the cake was having the use of a hot tub which we all looked forward to on each day of our stay. Thank you.

This is the second time in 6 months that we’ve visited the Bothy.

This is the second time in 6 months that we’ve visited the Bothy. We went for a short break in February but a whole week this time. The owners are lovely, nothing is too much trouble & the cottage has everything you could need and then more, even down to a pint of milk in the fridge, tea & coffee in the kitchen & a packet of biscuits to welcome you!! After a bad experience on a holiday park, we wanted something much more peaceful.....& that’s what we found at this beautiful, tranquil place. Our son has made friends on the farm and been able to enjoy herding sheep & checking cows. The zip wire has provided many hours of fun!! Penrith is a 20 minute drive away and there is a retail park just off the motorway with an Aldi, Iceland and Home Bargains should the need arise. There are lots of things to do within about a 30-45 minute drive. Carlisle is also about 20 minutes away with lots of restaurants, a Vue cinema & obviously the Castle!! The kitchen is very well equipped with a dishwasher, fridge freezer, washer/dryer, microwave and all the usual pots & pans. There is even a slow cooker, panini press & a hand blender!! Although we didn’t need the heating this time it was lovely and warm in February. The beds are lovely & comfortable & both bathrooms have towels & toiletries. It’s a lovely peaceful location but a car is needed to see the local area. However the lanes are quiet enough to walk along and enjoy the scenery. We are already planning our next trip back, it’s everything we could possibly want from a holiday.

We had a relaxing break at The Bothy. Alison and her husband were on site if you needed anything. The kitchen is very well equipped, with every utensil you could possibly need. We stayed in each night and prepared Dinner with no hassle. My elderly mother stayed with us and slept in the twin bedroom. Unfortunately, she found the family bathroom to be inconvenient, as she had to walk through the Lounge and Kitchen to take a shower. We knew the location of The Bothy was remote when booking, with very little amenities around. This was not a problem for us. Very rural and beautiful setting.

Fantastic holiday home

A beautiful barn conversion in a relaxing setting. The accommodation is well equipped and comfortable. The wet rooms are excellent for anyone with mobility problems. Alison and Richard are welcoming hosts and are on hand if you have any queries. A great base for touring the Lake District. Would recommend and would stay here again.
