Modern villa in charming and vibrant village with stunning private pool. Relax in the large private garden overlooking woodland. Cazals has a lot to offer with weekly markets a fresh water lake for swimming and fishing and an award winning bakery.
Cazals is situated in the Bourianne area of the Lot department in Occitanie, close to the border with the Dordogne department. It is about 20 km from both the river Lot at Puy l’Eveque and the Dordogne at Domme. It is an unspoilt forested area with gentle hills and valleys and also borders the wine region of Cahors.
There is a lovely Plan d’Eau less than 5min walk from the house with plenty of quiet paths and roads for walking, running and cycling. The area is renowned for its food, particularly Foie Gras and duck, and of course the red wine of Cahors. Whether you want to just relax by the pool listening to the birdsong or use it as a base to explore the Lot and Dordogne, Cazals is ideally placed for a wonderful holiday.

Cazals est situé dans la région de Bourianne, dans le département du Lot, en Occitanie, près de la frontière avec le département de la Dordogne. Il est pratiquement à égale distance - à environ 20 km du Lot à Puy-l’évêque et de la Dordogne à Domme. C est une zone forestière préservée avec de douces collines et vallées et qui borde également la région viticole de Cahors.
Il y a un joli Plan d’Eau à moins de 5 minutes à pied de la maison avec de nombreux chemins et routes tranquilles pour la marche, la course à pied et le vélo. La région est réputée pour sa nourriture, notamment le foie gras et le canard, et bien sûr pour le vin rouge de Cahors. Que vous souhaitiez simplement vous détendre au bord de la piscine en écoutant le chant des oiseaux ou l utiliser comme base pour explorer le Lot et la Dordogne, Cazals est idéalement placé pour passer de merveilleuses vacances.

Lovely place, well equipped and quiet

Well, the weather was very changeable over the 2 weeks we were here, the first evening and next day were thunderstorms and rain, but wasn’t cold, 22 degrees, from there it was between 27 and 35 degrees, the pool was ideal and cooling in the hot sun. My only suggestion would be additional umbrellas or shade, as the sun does get really hot by the pool.

Fab Rental

We stayed for a week at the start of August and had everything we needed. The house is well equipped with whatever you could require, especially in the kitchen plus UK adapters are provided just in case. The pool is fantastic - really large. The location couldn’t be better - right near the centre of a village with everything you could need. The garden is huge and secure - perfect for our dog to have a good run around in (we just had to be careful with the front gates in case he squeezed through - but had so much space he didn’t really try). We had a minor problem with a blocked sink that the owners rep in the area sorted really quickly. Communication with the owner throughout was fantastic including recommending a local vet for the return health check. Thank you for letting us stay.

We are from Wales and bought the property in 2016. The following year we built a lovely south facing swimming pool. We love nature and walking the dogs and enjoy visiting Cazals at any time of year. The hot summers contrast with the cooler months of the year when Cazals is a lot quieter and when we can enjoy longer walks. The cycling is wonderful with quiet rolling roads extending in all directions from the village. As well as road cycling there are numerous well marked MTB/gravel trails. We have enjoyed welcoming guests to our property to share our love of nature, the local bastides, the food and restaurants and of course the wonderful vineyards of Cahors. Our four children are now adults and still enjoy visiting Cazals with their partners and friends.

Why they chose this property

We wanted to spend more time in France and a certain vote in the UK in the summer of 2016 was the impetus we needed. The Lot département, and in particular the Bouriane region showcases rural Southwest France at its best,with its charming historic villages, Quercy-style houses, stone walls and green forests - often of chestnut trees. The limestone ridges and forests are full of hiking trails and quiet cycling roads. We have always enjoyed the outdoors, and still love Wales of course, but the different culture, food and quieter pace of life in the Bouriane was a big attraction, as was the more or less guaranteed sunny and warm weather from April to November.

What makes this property unique

The property at the back overlooks a gentle sloping garden which ends in a forest. The raised covered terrace takes in this view as well as the swimming pool. The garden is now dog secure and we have recently built a large aluminium pergola with a louvred roof at the back of the house - creating a larger dining area. Although it feels very secluded at the back, the property is very close to the centre of the village with its shops, bars and restaurants, meaning you don’t need to take the car……
