The Hideaway. Private secluded lake cabin on 25 acres & optional pontoon rental.
Searching for a peaceful escape in the north woods, a fun family getaway, or a home base for all of your outdoor recreational activities? The Hideaway on Wasson Lake is what you’re looking for! Nestled on 25 acres of forest land with 600 feet of lakeshore, this cabin is a cozy retreat any time of the year. Ideal for families, couples, honeymooners, girls/guys weekends, fishing/hunting groups, snowmobilers, a comfortable stay for events or tournaments, and more!
The space Well-maintained, beautiful, and clean cabin features knotty pine interior throughout, rustic and charming decor, a layout that’s perfect for families or groups, and all the amenities to ensure a comfortable stay.
MAIN LEVEL: Step through the front door into a cozy living room with plenty of seating, 32” smart tv, and a wood burning stove. You’ll also find a full kitchen, stocked with everything you need to cook or bake during your stay, including linens, utensils, dishes, cookware, and more. The dining table comfortably seats six, and there is also a high chair and booster seat available. Just off the dining area are two sets of double doors that open to a fully screened-in porch with additional seating for four. It’s a great space for enjoying meals, playing games, or simply relaxing!
Walk down the hallway just past the kitchen and you’ll find three bedrooms and two full baths. Each bedroom comfortably sleeps two people, and all linens and pillows are provided. (Additional sleeping space can be found downstairs.) There is also a Graco brand pack-n-play portable crib available for a small child, as well as an extra set of sheets for all beds. Plenty of space for families and groups!
LOWER LEVEL: Downstairs you’ll find another living room with a smart tv, double-size futon couch (sleeps two), a dining or gaming table, and another full bathroom. A single-size rollaway and futon chair is also available. There is a laundry and storage room with a washer, dryer, and plenty of storage space for outdoor gear and clothing. A pair of double doors opens to an outdoor patio and spacious backyard.
YARD: Backyard features plenty of space to enjoy year-round! Bring your gear or use the gear we have available (snowshoes, sleds, yard games, etc.). The property features 25 acres of woods and trails to explore. We are currently in the process of building a trail system - feel free to walk and explore the trails that have been created so far!
A fire pit area with plenty of firewood is also available just beyond the lower patio. Campfires are allowed as long as there are no burning bans in place. Don’t forget to bring the fixings for s’mores!
There is space for parking a couple of vehicles in front of the cabin; however, there is an additional large parking area up the driveway that can accommodate trailers and extra vehicles, if needed.
BAR-B-QUE GRILLS: We’ve got you covered with one propane gas grill and a charcoal grill located on the lower level patio, and another small charcoal grill near the lakeside/dock area. A propane tank is provided, as well as a backup tank. Guests are responsible for their own charcoal and lighter fluid - there may be some leftovers from previous guests, but that is not a guarantee.
LAKESIDE: Ready to enjoy the water? Walk a few hundred feet from the cabin down the path to discover 600 feet of lakeside shore on beautiful Wasson Lake. Near the dock you’ll find a screened-in gazebo with electricity, table and seating for six, life jackets, and fish cleaning table. It’s a great lakeside hangout!
The lakeshore at the dock is about 2-3 feet deep and is firm enough and mostly clear of weeds and lily pads. However, it is not sand, so although people can and do swim or wade in the water, it is not ideal as your feet do sink into the bottom a few inches. A better swimming alternative is from the optional pontoon boat rental - see info below.
Included with the rental is unlimited use of a 14’ Lund fishing boat with Honda 9HP motor (includes one full tank of gas), a 17’ Grumman aluminum canoe, and a two-person paddle boat. Wasson Lake does not have a public access and there is no access point on the property for boat launch - so guests will not be able to launch and use their own boats.
We provide one infant, two child, two youth, and eight adult (various sizes) lifejackets, but please feel free to bring your own.
OPTIONAL PONTOON RENTAL: Guests have the option of renting our 2022 Godfrey pontoon boat with 40HP 4-stroke motor. With plenty of seating, it’s the best way to get out and enjoy Wasson Lake to the fullest! If interested, pontoon rental is done separately via email and Square. Please inquire about pricing and other information.
PETS: Dogs are allowed, max two. There is an extra pet fee of $50 per stay, regardless if there are one or two dogs. This is done via a separate invoice and transaction after booking. Please indicate if you plan to bring a dog or two during your reservation request. For your convenience, we provide feeding dishes, scooper, and poo bags. Please clean up after your pet!
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES: The Hideaway is perfect for all of your outdoor recreational activities!
Fishing: Wasson Lake is approximately 500 acres and spring-fed. Per the MN DNR it has 17 feet of clarity with a max depth of 67 feet. With four islands and numerous bays, it’s ideal for fish, including northern pike, perch, large and small mouth bass, rock bass, crappies, and panfish like bluegill and sunfish. In the winter, bring your ice house and gear and enjoy time out on the frozen lake.
Hunting: We do not allow hunting on the property itself. The use of guns of any kind, including but not limited to BB guns, bow and arrows, sling shots, cross bows, etc. are strictly prohibited. However, the Hideaway is the ideal home base for hunting groups as there are thousands of acres of public government land all over the area for hunting.
Snowmobiling/ATV: If you’re a snowmobile or ATV enthusiast, you’re going to love the Hideaway! In the winter, enjoy hundreds of miles of Itasca County snowmobile trails, including an extension to the nearby groomed Herb Brandstrom Trail that starts just a few hundred feet from the driveway. The local Swampsiders Snowmobile Club is located just three miles down the road as well. There is a large parking area off the main cabin driveway that can accommodate trailers.
Snowshoeing: Bring your snowshoes - or use the pairs provided - and explore the property, frozen lake, and more!
Explore the north woods: If you’re looking for a quiet and peaceful escape, look no further! The previous owners underwent a forest stewardship project by selectively harvesting overgrown poplar, birch, and aspen trees while planting over 4000 new red pine, white pine, and various hardwood trees. Already the pine trees have grown to four to six feet tall, and within a few short years, a new forest will emerge. The property is bordered by the lake to the east, another cabin to the south, and quiet roads to the west and north. We invite you to take a walk in the woods or down the driveway and roads to take in all the beauty and tranquility our area has to offer. On a clear night, look up to see tons of stars, too!
Guest access Guests will have access to the entire property during their stay, including the whole cabin, yard, lakeside area, and 25 acres of woods and trails.
We communicate directions and access information, including lock box code, a day or two in advance of guests' arrival date.
NO exploding fireworks or firearms, including but not limited to, BB guns, bow and arrows, crossbows, slingshots, etc. are allowed on the property.
Other things to note Included in the rental rate is a 3% lodging tax paid to the non-profit organization "Visit Grand Rapids" whose mission is to promote the Itasca County/Grand Rapids area as a destination for conferences, conventions, events, group tours and leisure travelers, thereby enhancing the economic growth of the area through travel and tourism. We (the owners) support what this organization does for northern Minnesota and the Itasca County area and thus have chosen to pay this voluntary tax out of pocket from rentals received. Guests will not see this additional tax added to their reservations, nor receive an extra charge from us.

Sobre o anfitrião
Anfitrião: Sean Solberg
Our names are Loren & Joan Solberg. We are both semi-retired and live about 30 miles away from The Hideaway just outside of nearby Grand Rapids, MN. We own "The Hideaway" cabin along with our sons John (& Bobbi) Solberg, who currently reside in Cottage Grove, MN and Sean (& Heather) Solberg, who currently live in Eagan, MN. Both are eastern suburbs of the Twin Cities about 4 hours away. We also have two other adult children, one in Grand Rapids and one in Blaine (also a Twin Cities suburb) who live with their respective families, and between them all they have blessed us with 13 grandchildren!
Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade
Why this property? That is a great question! Even though we just purchased this cabin property in early October 2019, we are definitely not new to it. From the early 1970’s until the late 1990’s, we lived in nearby Bovey (about 25 miles away from “The Hideaway” and about 6 miles from Grand Rapids), which is where we raised our four children. We spent most days of every summer at Wasson Lake as a family at our very old and rustic cabin, which is directly next door to the south and actually shares the first part of the driveway with “The Hideaway”.
The previous owners of “The Hideaway” originally purchased it in 1975, built the original cabin in 1977, and extensively remodeled it in 2008. When they moved from Minneapolis, MN to Rochester, NY, in 1989, even though they knew they wouldn't be able to use “The Hideaway” very often, they kept it since it was a very special place to them and knew they could never replace it.
Spending that much time at our respective cabins over the last 5 decades have allowed us and our families to become lifelong friends. So we were deeply saddened when we heard they were going to sell. We just felt so connected to them and the property that we felt we had to try our best to buy it, and we did. It is such a cozy, relaxing place and we are excited to keep it in the family as well as share it with others to enjoy.
O que faz essa propriedade ser única?
If you are looking for a fully-equipped, cabin-style retreat on a very quiet lake in the woods that offers privacy, seclusion, peace, connecting with nature, beautiful scenery, relaxation, comfort, plenty of room, and tranquility, yet provides just enough connection to the real world and is within short drives to shopping and many activities, this is the place for you. The lake also offers great fishing with multiple species (there are no walleyes in the lake) but without a lot of lake traffic since there is no public access on the lake and also only one small resort.
