Very relaxing and peaceful.

  • 5 of 5

After traveling for two weeks in the heat this was just what we needed. Very homey, relaxing and peaceful. Mornings and evenings rocking on the front porch was a great break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Gem of a house!

  • 5 of 5

Three couples stayed in the Mulhern house for a long weekend and were more than pleased with the property, the staff and the location. Ft. Davis is the perfect location to explore Marfa, the Ft. Davis Mountains, the Obervatory and nearby towns. The home is beautifully furnished, spacious and comfortable. Kitchen is completely remodeled with all new appliances. Great internet service, and everything else was as advertised. Mary, the host, was there for anything we needed. Great property!

Perfect Home Base

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five decided to take a summer road trip from Houston to Fort Davis. We knew that the summer temperatures were lower there due to elevation of the mountain range, and also knew that there were lots of fun, unique things to do in the general area. Fort Davis did not disappoint! We had a fabulous time, and were so impressed with our rental, the Mulhern House, our "Home Base" in Fort Davis. With three young children, we much prefer renting a house over a hotel so that we can spread out and make our own meals. The Mulhern House was spacious and well-appointed, and we loved the fact that it's over a hundred years old! The huge front porch stretches across the front of the house, with plenty of chairs for sitting and hanging out, drinking coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening. I have wonderful memories of all of us sitting on the porch in the evening playing Texas Bingo! There is a fenced in front yard and a huge backyard that the kids loved to play in. We made day trips to the Fort Davis National Historic Site, Balmorhea (the kids' absolute favorite), Marfa, the MacDonald Observatory for a Star Party (fabulous), and horseback riding at Prude Ranch. One of my favorite things to do was head to Stone Village Market in the morning for a cup (or two!) of Big Bend Coffee Roasters coffee and a freshly baked cinnamon roll. Working with Mary throughout the process was seamless. She was extremely responsive, nice, and helpful. We would love to do this trip again next summer, and you can bet we will stay at Mulhern House!
