They offer swimming, surfing, prawning and fantastic fishing from the beach, estuary or take a boat out in the ocean. Numerous fishing charters are also available as well as Dolphin and Whale watching.

The area is surrounded by National Parks with Mimosa to the north and Ben Boyd to the south. Great for the four wheel drive enthusiasts or some nature spotting.

Fabulous cottage - recommended +++

I have stayed at many rental properties around the world over the years and this is probably one of the best ... certainly in terms of suiting our current needs: couple with kids 6-8 yrs and a dog, and also in terms of how well it was equipped. I was so impressed - that when I couldn’t find scissors in the drawer I joked that I had found something that Sue and Steve hadn’t thought of .... but then I looked up and saw them stored next to the knifes. Yes, they had indeed, thought of everything! We were so comfortable in the property and delighted in being surrounded by nature - the kids loved feeding the birds on the deck and whilst canoeing (in the canoe provided) on the lake we spotted a kingfisher for the first time. The swimming kangaroo was also an eye opener. Merimbula also impressed - especially good for kids eager to learn to fish and dogs who like to be off leash on long beach walks. 100% recommend. Adults and kids agree - we hope to return one day. Thank you Sue and Steve!

A special place

Lakefront Retreat is perfectly positioned and aptly named. Parts of Merimbula can be a bit noisy but Sue and Steve's place is quiet and peaceful, tucked away by the Back Lake yet close to everything you need - just a short walk into town. The house is very clean, comfortable, well-equipped and thoughtfully provisioned. The large high deck is the real drawcard where you can relax & enjoy the lovely view and watch the birds in the treetops for hours. Didn't want to leave.

Very relaxing with a new adventure everyday!

The house was lovely and clean and very well equipped. Every day was a new adventure whether relaxing off the small jetty with a fishing line or unwinding around the fire pit you would find yourself surrounded by plenty of friendly visitors. Watching the family of kangaroos play together and jump across the lake daily, the everchanging variety of birds popping in for a friendly visit made us feel very welcome and kept us entertained. Trying out the little rowboat was something we had to give a shot before we left and I'm glad we did. We were very nervous but we plucked up the courage and although the boat ended up in reverse we made it back to the jetty safely and we couldn't stop laughing the whole time - we will need to brush up on our rowing skills for next time. If you like photography of birds and wildlife, make sure to pack your camera, there are several opportunities for fantastic up-close photos.

Idyllic location, extremely comfortable

I can confirm all the glowing reviews of previous guests - the house is indeed perfect. I'll add that the house is spotlessly clean (which is extra special because it's a pet-friendly property), the beds comfortable, the kitchen well-equipped, and the owner has thought of everything you may need including beach towels.
