About this property

SAVE! Mid-week discounts in December.

Stop your scanning, screen after screen. You just found the popular Bears' Bungalow. Don't take our word for it. Read some of the 160+ five-star reviews of our very satisfied former guests.

Wow!! You won't find this special deal anywhere else in the Big Bear Valley. The rates are lower than can be found in most other cozy cabins in the greater Big Bear area. It can hold two couples or a family of four.

Although we are pet friendly, the bungalow is restricted to dogs only, and no more than three of them. Your "fur babies" will love our large, fenced backyard. There's no extra charge for them, but you will have to leave your cat(s) at home.

The delightful bungalow is smack dab in the middle of the forest. Giant pine and oak trees surround the bungalow. Vaulted pine ceilings add to the charm of the bungalow. When evening comes, throw some wood on the fire, made even more perfect with a cup of cocoa or a glass of wine. The bungalow’s rustic decor, its large chef's kitchen, and the separate dining space are something to behold.

What a wonderful neighborhood! Imagine strolling along the quiet pine-treed Victoria Lane where a passing car is a rare sight. There's a nearby park, even a local market for items you forgot at the big grocery stores down Big Bear Blvd. All you have to do is bring your food back to the bungalow and start cooking up a storm.

Cooking in the bungalow’s chef’s kitchen is an experience. No tiny gallery kitchen here. These are the basics: stove, oven, fridge, and microwave. But oh, so much more. There's a complete collection of silverware, plates, bowls, cups, glasses, and even wine glasses. There's a toaster, an electric can opener, and all the pots and pans and cooking utensils you would ever need. If you can't find something you desire, just call us. We can be there in 10 minutes.

If you want to stroll through the Big Bear village and the various restaurants, you don't even need to drive your car. There’s a bus stop within walking distance of the bungalow. Jump on the free trolley which will take you into Big Bear Village in 15 minutes. This is the hubbub place to be in our town. In addition to numerous restaurants, there are dozens of mom-and-pop shops, a movie theater, art galleries, and even a barbershop. While there are "fine dining" establishments that offer gourmet meals, there are also economical restaurants if you are on a tight budget.

Because the bungalow is in such high demand, there are many back-to-back reservations. Therefore, departing guests are expected to put the key back into the lockbox by 10 am. Arriving guests can check in at 3 pm. However, if a thorough cleaning has been completed early, you will be called to let you know you can check in early.

If you’re looking for a peaceful place away from the congested hotel and business sections of Big Bear, this is it! The Bears’ Bungalow is a delightful retreat from the hectic life down the mountain. It will provide a time that you will long remember. Don't forget, although we are pet friendly, we restrict the bungalow to dogs only and no more than three of them.

Cozy Cabin
Excellent cozy cabin for a small family near Big Bear. Cabin was clean and well stocked. Great location close enough to everything the area has to offer but far enough away to be peaceful. Instructions were easy and straightforward. Would stay here again!

About the host

The Bears' Bungalow is a joint effort of two gentlemen. Both of us moved to California from different parts of the United States. Alan (that's me above with my lovable dog, the late Peggy Sue) purchased the property 31 years ago when I was a top producing sales manager for a leading company of home products. In 2016, I decided to move to a larger Big Bear home, but I didn't want to sell this property which I had come to love, so I decided to turn it into a vacation rental home. With my main job taking up most days, I hired a property manager by the name of David. He was a real estate instructor for a business school in Orange County. One of his students lived in Big Bear. After David helped her pass her California real estate license exam, she invited him to visit Big Bear for a weekend. That was all it took. He purchased a weekend retreat in Big Bear and loved it. After about a month or two of leaving the big city life every Friday afternoon, then driving back down the mountain on Monday morning into that brown haze, crowded freeways, and crime, he quit his Orange County job, and moved to Big Bear full-time. He also decided to sell his properties in LA, Orange County and San Diego, then use the profits to purchase other rentals up here on the mountain.

David is one of those workaholics, who isn't happy unless he's busy all the time. Through mutual friends, I learned David was interested in taking on additional vacation properties to manage. What a find he has turned out to be. Each of us loves this town, and it is our sincere desire that you experience the same joy while in Big Bear. Each of us is a "people person." We will do what we can to make your stay in the Bears Bungalow something special.

David is the individual who helps guests through the inquiry and booking process. He finalizes the reservation, then emails directions and our check-in procedures. I try to meet guests on their arrival, give them a short orientation and hand them the key.

Why they chose this property

Even though this property was purchased some 30+ years ago, there have been many improvements along the way. Now it is a six-room retreat with all the amenities you need to be comfortable. The Bears' Bungalow is filled with all sorts of "bear necessities" that complement its name. The result has impressed all the guests who have enjoyed their stay. This bungalow can accommodate up to four people. There is a queen-size hide-a-bed couch in the living room for two along with a queen-sized bed in the bedroom for two. Many of them have been so moved by the experience that they have added their glowing comments on the review page of this listing, making it a five-star rated VRBO property.

What makes this property unique

California is a unique state. Where else can you experience the ocean, the desert, and the mountains all in one day? When you wish to choose the mountains to decompress from your fast paced life in Southern California, we want to be your choice for lodging. Bears' Bungalow is designed to be relaxing and even romantic (if necessary). Don't hesitate to ask for any special requests or needs. If you want the cabin decorated for a special occasion, we can do that. We have even put flowers and champagne ahead of arrivals. We've added special touches for birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. It is our desire that you be so happy with your stay with us that you will join the many others who have become returning guests.
