We enjoyed our stay at the cottage owned and operated by Portage Lake Motel. It was clean and well equipped and the owners are so kind and welcoming. I anchored my small fishing boat at the Motel beach which was super convenient. Thank you for the awesome stay!
My family and I really enjoyed our stay in this home on Portage Lake. The kids spent most hours we were there catching small fish off the sea wall, and when we ventured out we were close to so many outdoor activities. We also loved the beach and park that was about a 2 minute walk from the home.
Great stay in a beautifully remodeled home. Plenty of space for everyone to relax and enjoy. Dinning room table was a great place to enjoy card games with the whole family. Fishing was good and the lake is beautiful. Had a chance to enjoy a few nearby hikes when it was too windy to enjoy the lake. Definitely would recommend.

Our family extended our daughter's wedding weekend with a 4 night stay in the Onekama House. It was a lovely stay regardless of the gale winds. We thoroughly enjoyed the sunroom. It was very peaceful & relaxing. The view in the evening spectacular with the sunsets! The house was clean (with the exception of a couple carpet stains) and living room, dining area & kitchen were updated. A few small issues with ants in the kitchen but not an uncommon thing when you are close to water. Garbage can was not emptied from the previous guests. With a quick call, it was taken care of.Love how close we were to many day trips to The Marsh, Baldy Trail, drives on M22...overall, we appreciated not having a long drive back to the cottage.
We traveled to Onekema to visit my aunt and cousins on Bear Lake, about ten minutes away. I wasn't expecting to have one of our best family vacations, but we truly did. The house was extremely clean and the view from the lake-facing porch was beautiful. Because we are still in a Pandemic, we mostly hiked the nearby Michigan Dunes, shopped in Manistee and Beulah, and visited. We left our unfinished jigsaw puzzle in the TV console. Enjoy it. It was just what we needed after these crazy months. A slow, nature-filled, quiet visit with family and a break from work and school. If you are looking for flash and adrenaline, this isn't your spot. But if you are looking for peace and connection, I highly recommend, 5 stars.
The house comfortably accommodated 5 adults, 3 of whom were working remotely. Wifi was strong enough to support them all - and it was great that they could just in the lake at breaks.
Kitchen was well furnished - especially important as there were few restaurants in walking distance. AC worked well. Floors without carpets in common areas - good for sandy & damp feet.
Patrick was very responsive & friendly (& kept distance) in meeting a few additional requests. Larry(owner) was helpful about nearby businesses/restaurants and particularly gracious about our dog that had done some minor damage. The real-estate company who managed the listing was a little delayed on the pick-up: the website was not working and they did seem familiar with the property (had to get back to us to answer questions). They did eventually engage in a more timely manner.
The 'downtown' of Onekama is small, and Cov-id seemed to close a few more businesses down. Luckily, EZ mart was open and walking distance; it carried most necessary groceries (much more complete than a convenience store). That was very helpful, as Meijer was 20 minutes away in Manistee.
All in all, a good experience. We would stay there again.
