We had a great stay at Donovan's Reef for a quick, adult getaway on Chincoteague Island. The communication from the property manager was plentiful and timely, and we had everything we needed during our stay. Comfortable furniture for sitting around and chatting, cozy beds for a good night's sleep, and updated kitchen and bathrooms. Thanks for having us!

We had a great week working remotely here. Nice location, easy walk to most of the restaurants and the grocery store. Highly recommended!

The house is nicely laid out and very comfortable for the group of 6-8. Basic kitchen and house amenities and a great location, close to the Maddox Street and Main Street. The slightly lower score is for service as we reported some broken items that were not fixed during our stay. They were not major issues so not a big deal. Overall it was a great experience and a nice place to stay.

July 2021 Stay

This was the 2nd time we’ve stayed at Donovan’s Reef. It works well for 3 adults and 2 children. It was nice to see the changes that happened since we were there 2 years ago. The new couch is much more comfortable and the updated bathrooms are lovely. The location is very convenient to everything. We love renting from Chincoteague Resort Reality. Our stay was relaxing and just what my son-in-law who just came back from a 9-month deployment in Kuwait and my daughter needed. There was a problem with getting the towels we’d paid for and the employee went out and bought towels and delivered them within hours. Coming back after the pandemic has made it difficult for companies to get help so this was particularly noteworthy.

July 2021 Stay

What a wonderful week! We loved your older house and its quaint charm. Enjoyed perfect weather and so much great seafood. The craft show in town that's held every Wednesday and Saturday was especially fun, and we were able to find many treasures there. Many of the stores in town are closed, so this was perfect in finding those special gifts. It's too bad the ice cream place(Mueller's?) is closed as that was always a special attraction in town as there are no other places to share a treat with family, friends, etc.

I have been coming to the Island since the 1960's and I use to stay a lot across the street from Donovan's House. I was delighted with the house and its ambience of old and new. It served our purpose of being in town and close to Maddox to go to the Ocean. I especially enjoyed the enclosed porches on the side. Truly a delighted.

Reviewer Comments: I have always wanted to step into the house across the street on Ocean Blvd. I started to come to the Island in 1960's with my husband and his sister and friend. I fell in love with the Island and its peaceful surroundings. I think this particular house has a lot of charm. It is spacious and has a combination of the old and new. The enclosed porches are ideal for relaxing. It was a dream come true.

Good House and Great Location

The pictures of the property online certainly don’t do it justice. The house is huge and was able to accommodate our party of 6 very comfortably. We especially loved the sun room and working fireplace! Booking this property through VRBO was a bit confusing as part of the fee was paid via VRBO and then I received and email request from a property management group in Chincoteague for the rest of the payment. If possible, save yourself the fee and extra step and book straight through them! The house itself is comfortable and has a well stocked though we were only left with one roll of toilet paper in each bathroom and one roll of paper towels. We had to go out to buy more along with hand soap. The house is in need of some updating. The lights flickered a lot each night and there are some obvious signs of wear and tear on the house. We went over the Thanksgiving holiday so when we had a maintenance issue (the hot water didn’t work in the shower upstairs) it was unable to be resolved. While they did send a plumber out the day before we were due to leave, they did not warn us so we weren’t home when they arrived. We’d definitely use this house again if we were to come back with a large party— though we’d be better prepared with paper products and would check the appliances right away!

There house is in need of some updating, mostly the kitchen and stairs leading to the back door. There are a few oddities with the upstairs being a open concept which did not offer much privacy when using the bathroom. The skylights in the top floor were nice to have natural sunlight to wake up to. We had some issues with AC not working and the upstairs shower leaking into one of the bedrooms but property management took care of them quickly.

Great house! Everything was as advertised.

The location was great, lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance. The kids were excited about all the Disney VHS tapes (they were fascinated by the "old fashioned" way of watching movies) and board games, it made any downtime very painless and enjoyable for them. There were also boogie boards and beach chairs to borrow which was great. There was plenty of space and a well appointed kitchen. The attic was finished beautifully and we loved all the natural light from the skylights. The beds were very comfortable! The only downside was that the water in the upstairs shower doesn't get hot, but this isn't a big enough problem to deter us from visiting again. The check in/out process was a breeze because the door opens with a key code. This is an awesome house for families!

Great time getting away from it all!

We wanted to get away for a week for a change of scenery but still be safe during the pandemic. We really enjoyed the house as it had lots of room, a fully stocked kitchen, a screened in porch, and a nice grassy yard for our dog!

The house needs major improvements. There is duct tape on the 2nd floor covering a hole— this has been like this for 2 years. The house also developed ceiling cracks during the time we were there. Minor repairs were done immediately. Mattresses need to be replaced. This house needs major updates. It is apparent that it has not been kept in good repair.

Great Island getaway

We loved the fact that we were able to take our dogs with us on vacation. The House is in a great location, close to shops and restaurants, but still on a very quiet street. The house was lovely and offered everything we needed.

June 2018 Stay

We loved this house, Donovan's Reef. So many windows and so much light and fresh air. The older style is my favorite. It was perfect size for five adults and three little children. Good walking distance to town and Lil Whippy. Near the end of our visit the bathtub stopped draining and two men were immediately sent to look into it. (Unfortunately the drain needed a professional plumber and it was late Friday so no baby baths Friday and Saturday). But I would rent this house again and recommend it to others.
