Guestbook comments from the manager

Hello Paul and Jeanne,

Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. We were delighted with the entire stay and what an experience.

We had: monkeys as promised; variety of birds of which we were able to identify quite a few and will share pictures; those giant grasshoppers; frogs and toads; bats flying over our dinner plates; armadillo eating mangoes at the entrance to Pura Jungla; Papagayo winds that rattled and shook. Watched the rufous backed wrens building the nest just by the treehouse. We did couple of trips, spent a lot of time on the Junquillal beach, ate at Villa Deveena several times, at Carlos, at Lolas, ....cooked and drank and enjoyed the top deck in hammocks, visited with Rae and his lovely girl....

I hope, this does paint a picture of complete satisfaction and delight.

You have a very special place, but you know that; we would love to see it also in Green season.

We feel as we actually know you by sharing your wonderful retreat.

Great time!

  • 5 of 5

My three teens and I stayed at the treehouse for five nights and had a great time. The place is gorgeous! Local staff were quick to help when a toilet clogged. The hosts left boogie boards out for our use, which was awesome. On-site laundry is great. Kitchen is well-equipped and I cooked frequently, made my morning coffee, etc. You must have a car. Beautiful wild beaches are minutes away for surf & sunsets. Great ceviche at nearby Playa Negra Cafe. A quick drive (45 minutes) brings you to very different beaches, calm and crystal clear, perfect for swimming & snorkeling. (Tip One: if you don't like insects, there are some grasshoppers, etc., around but keeping the lights off at night in open areas helps keep them away. Tip Two: late afternoon may be a good time to catch the howler monkeys; half a dozen of them romped and fed one late day after a rain when we put off going to the beach, such a treat!) We also had an adorable frog who hung out in one of the bathrooms. We'd peek in every day to say good morning. :) All in all, it's a real treasure, this treehouse, and I'd love to go back.

Once in a lifetime experience

  • 5 of 5

Our trip to Costa Rica was such a cool experience. This home on the hill offers more than you can imagine. It is wonderfully furnished and beautifully decorated. The bed in the master bedroom is so comfortable and the open-air style of the home allows you to interact with the natural surroundings. We had evening visits from the local howler monkeys and looked forward to their visits each night. Be sure to rent an SUV to reach this home and to navigate the roads in the area. We loved the local beaches at Playa Juanillo and Playa Negra but also ventured out on a day trip suggested by the owners. We found wonderful restaurants, interesting people and great shopping within 45 minutes of the treehouse. The only downside for us was that it was really hot while we were there. We traveled at the end of the dry season and temps reached into the 90's. The owners were great to work with us regarding the reservation. Our outgoing flight was cancelled and we had to arrive much later than expected on our first day. Paul and Jeanne made arrangements to accommodate our late arrival and followed up to be sure everything went okay for us. A part of my heart will always be in this beautiful jungle home.

Very Special holiday adventure retreat

  • 5 of 5

Costa Rica is a special place to begin with but its charm requires a visit to a tree house on a quiet hill side overlooking the ocean. My wife and I, with three teenage boys stayed in the Treehouse for four nights and had a fantastic visit. The unique design is more open than any other structure we have ever been in and connected to the magic of Costa Rica. The cool breeze, and forest sounds wrap around on all sides and you feel like you are in the jungle tree tops when in the living room...with a coffee of afternoon glass of wine. the house is located in a remote part of the country, in a large forested area about 10 minutes from one of the best beaches in Costa Rica (Playa Negra). The drive from the airport was very easy on good roads.

The Treehouse is very clean, well supplied, with great beds, and a playful, fun design that you will never forget (in a good way). It was a great, relaxing way for us to begin our two weeks in CR over the Christmas holidays. Lots of good programs in the area like zip-lining and surfing. Walking in the forest around the Treehouse is also great as we explored the rolling landscape. Monkeys swing from the the branches right ion front of the kitchen and living room...and bedrooms. This is a true Costa Rican retreat, with great views and a wonderful quiet setting. You will enjoy your time here.

Eco Oasis

  • 5 of 5

After two trips for two weeks each to this amazing refuge I can sit back and think of all the great memories of this extraordinary place with happiness. Fresh warm ocean air blowing thru the treetops as we looked out over the canopy from the open top floor of the treehouse, watching the iguana's in the jungle floor below eat fresh fruit, nitetimes looking out at the starts thru the floor to ceiling glass walls in our master bedroom, and relaxing in the hammock reading with the sounds of the jungle in the background. The house had everything we needed and is well cared for, and is private and spacious.

The country itself is welcoming, costa rican's are warm friendly people, and their are also the interesting expats who have figured out how to make a life down there running the local great restaurants.

We spent many days on the beaches, surfing, swimming, soaking up the sun, and side trips up to the hotsprings, volcano's, and offshore fishing.

This playa negra area is away from the overbuilt overtouristy (which are about an hour's drive away at Tamarindo)

and is much more to our liking, there is so much to explore, I can't wait to get back again.

Luxury amongst the trees

  • 5 of 5

I retired at the end of Dec. 2014, and this was our first trip to Costa Rica. My husband did a fair bit of research, and then presented me with the idea of 3 weeks at “Junglavista”. It is definitely a unique and special house amongst the trees, situated within an eco reserve. One can sit with a cup of coffee, and watch the howler monkeys cavort in the trees or watch the iguanas scurry along the ground. We also had occasional visits from a coati.

The house is stocked with all the necessary amenities, and cleaning is provided twice a week. We availed ourselves of fresh fish and, bread and baked goods, which come to the neighbourhood once a week. Preparing dinner while watching the sunset and sipping on a glass of wine was perfect!

Playa Avellanas is a quick drive away, and we walked the beach regularly. We also took mini-trips of 2 – 3 days to the Monteverde Cloud Forest and Rincon de la Vieja National Park from Junglavista.

A truly memorable stay!

Far Above our Expectations

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent the 2nd week of Jan at the treehouse, and it was spectacular.Been to Costa Rica before, and stayed at an all inclusive further up the coast, but for me drinking watered down liquor at the pool bar gets old in a hurry.I can do that at home.Any way, this time we wanted to get out and do our own thing, and we were definitely not disappointed.

First off, the treehouse is everything it's claimed to be and more.Such a beautiful isolated location, with all the amenities, makes the perfect base camp to get out and enjoy Costa Rica. Beaches with world class surfing are a ten minute drive from the front door.( I timed it) We hooked up with Pargos Adventures in Playa Negra, went standup paddle boarding in the mangrove swamps, hiked into the mountains to some cool waterfalls, learned to surf, and just chilled on the beach.

Everywhere we went people were friendly, and very helpful. Even with with the communication barrier we always felt more like friends and less like tourists. We ate out several times , and everyplace we ate at neither had doors or windows, just little open air places in and around nearby Playa Negra, and the food , the drinks , as well as the atmosphere were all great.

If your idea of a vacation is going to the amusement park, or sitting by the pool being waited on and eating whatever they serve you, this is probably not the place for you.

BUT,if you want to "get off the reservation",and do your own thing, enjoy the countryside, the wildlife, the people, the food, trust me you will not be disappointed.

I'm already planning my next vacation to this area, as are friends that we've shared our experiences with.
