Karaka Bay Cottage – Waterfront 3 Bedroom Bach or Holiday Home

Welcome to our cottage by the sea – cherished by four generations of our family.
Originally built in the 1870s, extended in the 1890s and updated with a California Bungalow restyle in the 1920s, the house has been recently redecorated and now has modern amenities including heatpump ducted central heating.

Relax on the porch and enjoy the harbour views through the pohutakawa trees, or in the privacy of the garden terrace. Walk over the road to the beach and rockpools.
Wellington Airport is 5 minutes drive away as are a supermarket as well as cafes and restaurants.

Fully equipped bach style kitchen. Broadband WiFi and internet/Freeview television.
Bathroom with cast iron bathtub for relaxing in and separate shower.

A 3 night minimum stay applies.

No smoking allowed in the house or on the property. No pets allowed (sorry!)

Such a magical weekend! I've always loved the sight of this home, took the leap to book for a random weekend and so glad we did. Absolute gem. Such welcoming hosts, totally inobstrusive but you can tell all the love and care they have put into the home. Highly recommend!

An exception spot and a beautiful and quant residence. Old and charming yet with modern features like a heat pump. Peaceful and surrounded by bush with the beach just over the road. A beautiful deck to sit on and watch the day go by and maybe a gin or 7. Definitely would stay again. Could live there forever. Great host too.

Gorgeous location, beautiful older home with original art work throughout, lovely gardens, parking for one small vehicle on property and other parking just down the road. The window behind the kitchen sink looks out onto vibrant fuscia flowers - I just loved it. We had everything we needed and the host left us a bowl of fresh fruit.

Weta cave, we walked the pedestrian path just down the street from the cottage (up, over and down). This was a cool experience.

Lovely Bay View

Loved the location of this cottage. Was like walking into a museum of sorts as the interior was quite unique. Loved the artwork and history of the place. Double bed was comfortable and the porch was the Star. Old house and old smells. We liked it very much.

Wellington gem

This property was a lovely historical home with definite period flavour, that was in the perfect location. I spent several mornings sitting on the porch watching the ships go by. So peaceful and yet so close to everything.

Charming cottage in gorgeous location

The cottage couldn’t be cuter and the garden had beautiful flowers. The accommodations were very comfortable and well-supplied with everything we needed. Our host thoughtfully left us a large bowl of lovely fresh fruit. The location, across the street from the water, was outstanding. We could cross the street to get into the water. We could sit on the front veranda and watch the ships sail in and out. We could not have chosen a better place to spend our time in Wellington.

City and Beach

Exactly what we wanted. Great location, great house, great history, great furniture. Really appreciated milk in fridge and full fruit bowl. We enjoyed the city, but loved being at the beach. Would definately recommend. Thank you.

Beautiful water view in a lovely neighborhood

We very much enjoyed our stay on the water in Karaka Bay. The house is just charming. The kitchen was well appointed with everything we needed for tea and coffee etc. The furniture was comfortable and there is plenty of room with two sitting areas. We loved the views of Karaka Bay. We were very appreciative of all the tips provided by the owners as to good eating spots etc. We enjoyed walking along the water as well. The art work and the history in the house is just so neat. This is a hidden gem well located to get into Wellington, to the Weta Workshop etc.

Stunning little gem

Even in a howling gail we were warm, comfortable and relaxed. Easy to all the places we 'tourist'ed. Beds are great quality. All the kitchen appliances and almost unlimited hot water your family would need.
