Perfect little hideaway in the hill country. We loved the breakfast that the hosts provided in the cabin. They were so kind and available when we needed them. Would definitely stay here again.

Cabin was perfect! So cute and pleasant. The stars were wonderful and I haven’t enjoyed quietnesses like that in a long time. Carl, the manager greeted me and the breakfast provided was awesome. I will definitely go back, I love this place!

Deanna, thanks for taking the time to leave these thoughts! And we apologize for the delayed response here, just saw I had not thanked you! We look forward to having you out to relax again sometime!
Carl and Rhonda are warm and inviting! They shared some history of the property (which we geek 🤓 over anything history).
A welcome breakfast package in the refrigerator was a sweet and delicious treat!
The nights of star gazing blew us away. The skies were clear and everything ✨️ was perfect 🥰!
Additional touch were the animals on the property from cows to deer you are welcome to feed(food provided for animals)! Definitely felt like a far away place for us from the city.

We are so glad you found us and had the chance to stay and relax! A bonus that it was clear and you had the chance to see the gazillion stars we see out here! Please consider us for any future plans out to this area!
Spending our 27th anniversary up on the rooftop gazing at the cosmos was the perfect time and place, and made so much more complete by the caring, thoughtful preparation our hosts made for us. I like to cook, so usually pick places with a full kitchen or at least a kitchenette with a hot plate, so I always bring essentials like my spices, oils, knives, foil, plastic wrap, etc. I left all of those things in my bag untouched because Rhonda and Carl thought of nearly everything! They even made sure to have charcoal, lighter fluid, and a stick lighter so I could grill our kebabs!
You've read other postings that saw how thoughtful and caring both Rhonda and Carl are, and all I can say is it's 100% true! From the offer of drinks when we arrived, to the asking if everything is okay as Carl headed back to his home after feeding and prepping the cows and chickens, they are great hosts.
The Siesta cabin's location was a great spot for gazing at the plethora of stars we could see since it was so dark at night. It was also perfectly located as a launching location for our treks into Fredericksburg, the Texas wine country, and the back porch of the Siesta was a great location to be about 10 yards away from 8-12 deer eating the deer corn we left for them. They spooked as we moved to drink our drinks, but Carl had told us that as long as we moved slowly, they wouldn't run away.
It was beautiful, we can't recommend it enough, and we will be going back!

About the host
Hosted by Rhonda and Carl Rubadue
A semi-retired chef and a semi-retired corporate HR manager escaping the commute. We work everyday and love it all! The new folks we meet and start new relationships coupled with the animals and the weather are bonuses!
Why they chose this property
When we were looking to change the direction and stress of the city life, we started looking coast to coast for a turn-key property. Rhonda did not want snow, I did not want 120 degree weather. When we first set foot on the property and experienced the view from our house, we were pretty much sold! It was larger than what we were looking for, we were looking for a 4-5 unit property and Walnut Canyon Cabins was an established 7 cabin property. With the spectacular view of the canyon from 5 cabins and two cabins with star gazing rooftop decks we know this property was special and we wanted it!
We are secluded, but close enough to enjoy most all of what we like to do, we just travel to enjoy what is not here. We have kept the cabins off the grid for the purpose of allowing folks to slow down, notice the Painted Buntings and deer, the Armadillos and other wild life that grace our place all the time.
The Texas Wine trail is a short distance away with every style of wine you can imagine! We have Bourbon Distilleries, Breweries, museums and more!
What makes this property unique
We have free range chickens that run the property and young cows that love to be fed cow treats from your hands. The treats are provided! We also supply corn for deer to be thrown out of the cabin for the deer that live in the area and are our constant guests! Breakfast items of Farm fresh eggs, locally smoked Canadian bacon, locally roasted coffee, biscuit dough and more that is stocked in your cabin for you to prepare and enjoy from the leisure of your cabin while enjoying the breath-taking view from the deck. We are happy to change items out to accommodate dietary preferences, IE Gluten free, vegetarian, Vegan etc.
The Siesta Cabin is decorated with original artwork from a Houston Artist and is available for purchase to take as a souvenir!
