While it’s a great location to explore Oranjestad, the management oversight was lacking. We arrived in the evening of our first night to a unit that had not been cleaned. Trash bags and trash throughout unit, used towels, unmade beds. After several calls to management company, we were offered a unit over 20 minutes away (we didn’t have a rental car) or to wait for cleaners to come. We obviously chose waiting for cleaners as our goal was to see the city before moving to our resort 2 days later. They finished around 8 as we said we would check out the dryer and get remaining towels dry. Dryer vent hadn’t been cleaned in a while so we emptied it and continued the drying. While they cannot control it, there is an outdoor bar that plays excessively loud music til about 10 pm. Our second night was then interrupted by batteries dying in the smoke detector and going off every 20-30 seconds for hours. We communicated all of this with the management company. They have stated they will refund 1 night of our stay for our delay relaxing the first night and interrupted sleep on the second night by the chirping of the smoke detector. We met another group in the building and they were super nice! The units are entered by a code locked door and each unit has its own lockbox and keys. We did not feel unsafe in our unit or downtown. With better maintenance and oversight by the management company, this would be a great place to stay for a couple of nights to explore.
