Surf Pines Retreat - Meredith Lodging

When you’re ready for loads of open space at the beach, Surf Pines Retreat is a fantastic, single-level ranch home that will provide the relaxation you seek. Situated a short walk through dune grass to miles of open beach, this comfortable home in a gated community gives your guests loads of options. Your friends and family will love the expansive, lounge-able deck to a light, open game room complete with a pool table, foosball, air hockey, and a wet bar. Outdoors you’ll enjoy an outdoor shower for rinsing off beach sand.

You’ll love gathering in the living room, which has comfy sofas, a wood-burning fireplace, and a TV. A second living area in the game room gives the kids their own space for TV-watching. A beautiful, fully equipped kitchen has all you’ll need for eating in, with quartz countertops, a gas range, and stainless-steel appliances. There’s also plenty of space for dining: a formal dining table for eight sits in front of a wood-burning fireplace with views of the dune grass and sky, and a second dining table for six adjoins the kitchen. With four bedrooms and three baths, Surf Pines Retreat has plenty of room for privacy, as well: two queen bedrooms, one bedroom with two twins, and a terrific bunkroom with two built-in twin bunk beds make this home a great one to share with another family.

When you’re ready to explore, hike to the open sky and level beach, or jump in the car for easy trips to downtown Astoria’s shopping and dining or Seaside’s family fun. Surf Pines Retreat puts you close to so much enjoyment near the tip of the North Oregon Coast!

Annual beach trip

Overall the house is very nice. There is no view of the ocean, the picture is a little deceiving. There is a hill in front of the ocean view and it is trek to the beach so put your walking shoes on. It is in need of a can opener and some outside chairs to enjoy the weather. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Amazing home for 8-11 people!

The home was SO spacious! It definitely exceeded our expectations! The hot tub was ready to get in, and the accommodations were all a plus! I definitely recommend it for your next family visit!

Beautiful home.

The house was nice , clean, and well stocked. The Issue is the main selling point was the fire pit which did not work. I would also give instructions on how to work the TV’s in the bunk beds and game room.

Disappointed Stay

The rental house was large enough for our group, 11, beautiful setting. The advertising did not accurately describe all the working features shown. Hot tub was not working and extremely unsanitary. Outside firepit unusable, didn't work. Outside sliding glass doors to game room did not lock, had to use dowels to keep them from opening. Rental needs more maintenance and upkeep. TVs in almost every room but you need to be a tech genius to log on to use. Disappointed with the property.

Not Quite What is Advertised

The property boosted A/C but there was none and we visited in a heatwave. Also, the “fire pit” was gas and the turn on knob was missing so it could not be used. The smoke detector was ripped off of the ceiling in the bedroom area and the hot tub was closed by management the day before we arrived. I called about the lack of A/C and was told it was on site. The repair man for the smoke detector (who came on the third day of our stay) confirmed that there was no air conditioning. Also, there was supposed to be Tv access for the bunk beds—each had individual TVs, but they didn’t work. Lastly, the representative from Meredith Corp. said that she would adjust the bill for no hot tub but that has not been done.

Not as advertised...

Nice property and location, however the hot tub was broke, the BBQ was small and rusted, not big enough to cook for 12 people, firepit was not working. Outdoor furniture was in bad disrepair, air hockey was broken. The bathroom handle fell off twice. The bottom plate of the stove was off when we got there. There was liquor left in the game room. Meredith staff was unapologetic and not accommodating. The reservation was made almost six months in advance and at the time we informed the hot tub was not working but should be repaired. However, when the balance of the payment was charged 30 days prior we were not informed that the hot tub was still not usable or that the other "amenities" we not functional. This lack of information and poor condition of the "amenities considering the costs paid for cleaning and maintenance is not acceptable.

STAY AT YOUR OWN RISK-Please read

This house looks beautiful. It has a good location (Surf Pines). However, DO NOT PAY for this house thinking you’re going to enjoy all of the fancy bonus items. None of the elevated amenities worked (air hockey, hot tub, fire pit, outdoor shower, TVs in bunk room). If you are looking to use any of them, good luck. Clearly (based on previous reviews) the management company was aware of these issues and did nothing to fix them (or alert us) prior to our stay (or the date by which we could have canceled). They had informed us about air hockey a couple of days before but it was clear that they were not trying to resolve it in any timely manner. In addition to those disappointments, the house was not cleaned. Management company said I should have asked them to come out and do “a refresh” once we were there, which would have meant we needed to vacate the house for an unspecified amount of time. After documenting and reporting these issues (which Meredith Lodging told me to do) they informed me that they could not refund me any more than $327. Which is less than half of one night’s stay. Then they “shut” the case. Surf Pines is gorgeous. Seriously. But find a *different* house, not managed by Meredith and save yourself the money and hassle.

Horrible Experience

Stay at your own risk! Please read review. There’s mouse feces in the kitchen cabinets, there’s no AC even though it’s advertised (it’s in the title), the hot tub is broken (looks like for months now based on reviews) and is dirty with stuff floating in it, the air hockey table is broken, the dining room chairs are ripped up, there are stains all over the carpet, the BBQ is a charcoal BBQ that is rusted and dirty, the photos of the house show two loungers and there is only one and it’s broken, the hair dryer provided has sticky residue covering the entire thing with toilet paper or paper towels stuck to it to the point you can’t use it, direct TV doesn’t work, there are no games for the Xbox as advertised, the pool table area has broken pool sticks and broken holder, the bunk room has brown stuff rubbed on the walls, bunk TVs don’t work, WiFi doesn’t work in the entire house, there are no instructions for anything inside and outside the house, light fixtures have no light bulbs or are burnt out. We called and shared concerns at check-in and the property manager and they said they emailed about the broken hockey table (I did not receive an email). They assured us they would take care of our issues and would call us back, but never did. We had to continuously reach out call them. I sent a final follow up email (with photos) with all the issues listed. I have not heard back. This place is advertising a rental and amenities it’s not delivering and charging a lot for it.

Lots of things went wrong

Appliances were broken and difficult to use. The tv in the bunk room weren't connect to the cable even though they each had a box connected to them. There were tv remotes everywhere and we had to go on the hunt to figure out which tv they were for. They pushed our check in time last minute by 2 hours for a housekeeping emergency. There are bugs all over the house. They definitely missed things when cleaning before we got there. But the game room was fun and the hot tub worked so we kept our shelves entertained.
